Dear Audiences

Our new show, Heelie-go-Leerie (Head over Heels) is out and about in Scotland until April 26th. It tells the story of three children, Bella, Kaiser and Taz, who live in a world very like ours but somewhere else! In this world people have got incredibly busy. Parents work all the time and children spend their lives rushing around studying and working and never have time to play.

But these three children have discovered a secret, out of the way place, they can come to and get away from all this busyness. They each think they are the only person who comes here.

When Bella comes here she can make up amazing rhymes and songs. When Kaiser comes here he gazes through a cardboard telescope and studies the planets, the moon and the stars! When Taz comes here he has fantastic imaginary adventures.

Kaiser can't really see into space. No-one can. Because in this world, a long time ago, the sky got so smoky that the people had to build a giant roof over their whole world to keep out the smoke. No-one can remember the time before the roof except very old people like grannies. The roof is quite old and sometimes holes appear in it. When this happens they have to be blocked up quick to stop the smoke from coming in!

The day of this story, Bella Kaiser and Taz all come to play in this special place at the same time and meet each other for the first time. But on this day there is a hole in the roof right here! They block it up with a long stick. They know they should get someone to come and mend it but if they do that they won’t be able to play here and they really want to. So they do play and they think up an amazing answer to the problem of the roof tha no-one would believe could ever happen……..and it does!

Along with the show we are collecting children’s favourite games, rhymes and songs, remembered and invented, to put into a Heelie Big Book . All children are invited to send in writing or pictures for inclusion in the book.

Special note!

Our wonderful actors in Heelie-go-Leerie are Paul Chaal and John Macaulay. Actor/musician Annie Grace who plays the bagpipes was in the show but sadly she was injured just before we opened and hurt her knee very badly. Our choreographer, Christine Devaney, bravely stepped into the role and is brilliant, but she doesn’t play the bagpipes so we apologise in advance to audiences looking forward to them! (Christine plays a funny instrument instead!) We will hope to have Annie in another Licketyspit show once her leg is better.

Audiences so far seem to be really enjoying Heelie-go-Leerie Hope to see you at a show soon!

Very best from Virginia, Trish, Fiona & all at Licketyspit
