2023-07-04T09:40:03+00:00

Porridge & Play Castlemilk is a Licketyspit Storyplay project for families with 3-8 year olds in the area. Find all of Porridge & Play Castlemilk's adventures here! Wednesday 28th June Storyplay Summer is here! It was fabulous to be back in Castlemilk for the start of our summer 2023 Porridge & Play sessions. We were warmly welcomed into Castlemilk Library where we’ll be meeting every Wednesday for Storyplay imaginings, food and friendship. With a mix of old faces and new, we got to know each other with our Dancing Warm up! Then our favourite Funky Chicken joined the fun with his crew - the Laughing Hyena, the Angry Elephant, the Angry Lion, the Happy Giraffe and the Happy Cat. We flew high in the sky in our colourful Flying Balloons. We saw the sea and the mountains, the sky and the moon! A zoo full of animals, squawking and merry and flowers that smelled like strawberries! We dressed up to the nines and pulled our scariest grins. Till some witches appeared with a cackle and giggle! I’m going to drink a bottle of p-p-p-p-p-POISON!! With a narrow escape we arrived at our p-p-p-p-p-PICNIC and enjoyed a feast of bread, watermelon, cheese, boiled eggs and cucumber sticks. The day was complete with an excellent Cake - made with chips and sausages in the Storyplay way! Thank [...]

The Storyplay Festival 2022

2022-12-13T10:48:58+00:00

The Storyplay Festival was part of our New Scots Integration Project 2021/22 Click here to find out more about the Cranhill, Castlemilk & Bridgeton Hubs who hosted the festival with us. On Saturday 17th September Licketyspit friends old and new gathered for a day that we will never forget. It was the first ever Licketyspit Storyplay Festival, and what a day it was! It was blue skies all round, and the sun shone down on Dassie Park, Glasgow Green. By 9am the Licketyspit team, with help from brilliant volunteers, were busily getting the park ready. Putting up colourful signposts, spotty tablecloths, Storyplay exhibitions… It was set to be a day full of dance, song, picnicking, crafting and most importantly… PLAY!  By 10.45 the Porridge & Play Hubs started to arrive, Castlemilk, Cranhill and Bridgeton. These groups were here to help host the festival with us and each had a designated area with an exhibition displaying their Storyplay adventures over the past year. At 11.30 everyone had arrived, and we were ready to begin. Virginia, Ruby and our Licketyspit Ambassador, Zainab Adeleye welcomed everyone to the festival and warmed us all up with a great big Grandma Grandma! Then one by one the Lickety hubs stood up on the stage and presented their group! The Castlemilk Hub told us how they like to play! [...]

Storyplay is back at the Library!

2022-10-14T12:42:40+00:00

Wednesday 12th October 2022 Our first session at Whiteinch was super exciting with lots of new faces and a whole load of imaginative adventures.  We all played the Funky Chicken and learned some new animals too! We met: Eeman’s jumpy kangaroo Ellie’s silly cow Dàire’s T Rex Kouser’s Kangaroo and Kemjii’s lazy cow!  Flying Balloons We were having so much fun we thought it might also be good to go flying in the sky with our Balloons... We travelled across the whole world and ended up in the Antarctic where it was so chilly we needed extra jumpers. We actually saw a Fairyland cloud and a castle, a butterfly, ducks, an orange fish, a slide, a unicorn  and dinosaurs including a T Rex. A dragon breathed some fire on the ice castle (I think he was trying to warm us up!) and meanwhile, we found a place where they were giving out ice-creams! Hunter  really enjoyed his strawberry one and Virginia’s tasted of onion! Dressing up as Grannies! We opened up two big bags of fantastic Dressing Up clothes and we all got very excited. So many colours and styles to choose from! Once we dressed up, we changed into a variety of characters and I was lucky enough to interview many of them. So many delightful outfits and among them were Grace the ninja Kemjii who flew in [...]

A year of Storyplay!

2022-10-10T10:23:27+00:00

Find all of Porridge & Play Cranhill's adventures here! Blog posts are written by Effie! Celebrating Block 3 Thursday 25th August & Thursday 1st September Our last couple of weeks of Porridge & Play Cranhill were wonderful! We learnt so many new games and songs so it was really hard to choose what to share at the Storyplay Festival. Before we even started one session some of us were playing Chiri Udi Kan Uda together! We decided the first game we'd share at the Festival was going to be Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy Oh. Everyone got a chance to say Change your Style or Stay Like That, like Beauty had taught us and there was so much laughter as we tried to trick each other into moving when they weren’t supposed to. A fter that we brought back some of our amazing dance moves from the warm up for a game of Disco Tag! Genesis and Tiwani were so fast it wasn’t long before most of the room was dancing on the spot hoping that someone would come and dance with them to set them free!  Then Shiva chose to play Shaylin’s game Trees and again everyone was having so much fun creeping slowly and even if they got caught moving, it was just as much fun to try and catch someone else moving as it was [...]

Storyplay Champions at Making Rights Real Event!

2022-08-19T16:23:59+00:00

Have Your Say Through Play is a children’s human rights-based, fun way to support children under-twelve to explore and share their thoughts, feelings and ideas through Lickety Playcard Play. This project was first developed with our Children & Families Network in September 2020, as a way to consult children about the Covid-19 pandemic. Everyone's Children invited us to join them and have our Storyplay Champions show just how have Have Your Say Through Play works! Tuesday 21st June We had a really fantastic time at the recent Making Rights Real Event online! Our Storyplay Champions led a fantastic 20 minute session where we demonstrated how we can ‘Have our SAY through PLAY!’  We went on a Magic Ball adventure to an underwater school! There we met Professor Seal (Taz) who told us that a new student was joining the school very soon and needed the children to come up with ideas for ways to make them feel welcome and happy, because children know what children need!  Professor Seal asked some questions…  What could we do to make a new student feel welcome at a new school?’ ‘They might need support and food. Maybe after school we could play with them or take them to the park, because we have the right to play and we could be their friends!’ - Fish Felicia  ‘We could sing them a [...]

The Storyplay Approach

2022-07-12T18:49:49+00:00

What is Storyplay? Storyplay is just what it says it is – playing with stories, anecdotes, characters, rhymes, jokes, singing songs and dressing-up in old clothes – the imaginary play that we all hopefully did as children, that many families share.  Storyplay is relaxed hilarious, inventive and unselfconscious way of people playing together. The Lickety Playcard games provide the scaffolding for this play, and a ‘reason’ to gather and play together. What is the Storyplay Approach? The way we lead Storyplay is as important as what we play. We collude with our participants.  We agree that – games are best when everyone is in the game; That all we need to play is each-other;That it’s important to manage turn-taking fairly, so that no-one worries about being excluded and everyone can relax and focus on enjoying playing. Play is best when there are no winners, losers or wrong answers. And above all play - and of course life too - is best when everyone knows that they will always be seen heard included and valued - because everyone has something equally great to bring to the game. Storyplay celebrates diversity and equity – giving every participant what they need to engage and be included. This work has shown us that we all need what children need – to feel welcome, connected and able to be ourselves. When we are in touch [...]

Storyplay for the Planet Zine

2022-08-18T16:00:56+00:00

Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. Saturday 12th March 2022 Our celebration & zine launch on Saturday was a brilliant way to finish our Storyplay for the Planet project. We have had a truly fantastic time over the last few months meetings families from all over Glasgow Centre East Ward and hearing their creative ideas and solutions to help us tackle Climate Change. We put this zine together but the ideas inside came from each and every family who came along and shared with us at our school, nursery, community and outdoor sessions. At our celebration session, we did our warm up and met some Funky Animals and then we went flying in our balloons to show our guests the kind of things that we saw over the last few months! We flew high up over the sky and when we looked down we saw a dirty, muddy, smelly river. Well…. we couldn’t allow that! So we landed our balloons and got to work cleaning out the muck. We had tubes to suck out all the oil, we had bin bags to recycle all the rubbish and when it was clean we were able to go for a swim. The water was [...]

In Storyplay City I sent a Letter to my Love!

2022-03-11T12:18:06+00:00

Welcome to the Storyplay Online blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. Storyplay City is back It was wonderful to see lots of our Storyplay Champions back again for more imaginary play adventures! We also met some new friends who recently joined our Children & Families Network - welcome to the family! These online sessions have now finished, with this weeks blog on what our final week was like! We will let you know when our next sessions start in May as part of Big Porridge & Play Glasgow! This week's blogs are by Andre & Taz! On Saturday... Writing letters and messages are a great way to express our feelings in creative, engaging and interesting ways. We can write letters to show our appreciation for loved ones like friends, family members, teachers and people who mean a lot to us, or even as a thank you to someone who has helped us. Another reason to write a letter is to give feedback and we love love loved hearing about all the how you felt about our Licketyspit sessions. In this session, we played Letter to My love which was incredible and so heartwarming to see everyone get involved with Sidhivk writing his letter to his mum and [...]
