Welcome to the Big Porridge & Play Online 2025 blog where we share our stories and adventures! We make fantastic shapes and swing about our hips Jump and twist, hop and turn with our Online Peeps! So my friends! We were all ready for an Online Boogie to wake up all our senses before we got stuck into our imaginary Storyplay! – we love to warm up our bodies and our minds so we can sharpen our imaginations - like a pencil! Ready to create all sorts of adventures, characters and situations! We sang a song with people that tend to go to bed With Fried egg on their Faces or Jelly on their Head! At Porridge & Play we love singing and songs that tell good stories, are often the songs we like! Like Jelly on His Head which is a cool rhyming song about all these wonderful and eccentric people who have funny routines before going for a good night sleep! AND of course, we love The Funky Chicken, a brilliant shapeshift game Each player becomes an animal and asks us to be the same! Sam imagined a Three Legged Turtle and Ibrahim was a Funky Lion. Shawn was the Baby who goes to school, but Khadar was a Dancing Lion. And Khadeejah became a Funky Cat while Abisha was a Silly Giraffe [...]

We came from Whiteinch, we came from Maryhill. We all live in Glasgow; we love a picnic! And do you know what else we all love to do? We love to Storyplay at The Children’s Wood! At Forest Storyplay October Holiday Week Licketyspit families got together to enjoy playing outdoors and The Children’s Wood is an absolute favourite place for it! Whiteinch and Maryhill families enjoyed another fabulous day out playing, sharing food and learning about fire & cooking with Andrea! Funky Chicken was very inventive - we even learnt about a new animal with Yasna! Frankie showed us The Saxophone Playing Turtle and Maya told us about The Cheeky Dog. Yasna introduced us to The Titanboa and Ibraheem knew The Angry Fly! Aveen showed us The Dancing Crab and Andzelika told us about The Dancing Fish. And Shirley & Arvin together showed us The Silly Pinguin!. We flew high up in the sky with our Flying Balloons and from up there we saw water, a ship and pirates on the ship! Then Maha spotted the pyramids and realised we were over Egypt! We decided to fly down with our Flying Balloons to get some treasure from the pirate ship! The treasure we found was real coins and chocolate coins of different flavours! Suddenly a Pirate appeared and shouted: ‘Oi! This is my [...]

Mohammed was the Naughty Robot and Gabbie the Happy Axolotl! Desi became the Crying Dinosaur and Kieran the Cool Cat. Sayeda turned into the Crazy Dog and Ammar into the Scary Dog! Ryan was the Jumpy Frog while Danylo was the Yellow Chick. Malcolm roared like the Lazy Lion, Pemi became the Lazy Squid called George and Abu turned into the Angry Gorilla! We blew our Balloons so big that we flew up in the sky - Desi spotted mountains with witches eating chicken wings While Gabbie saw adorable bees asleep, Abu could see donuts – big donuts! And Pemi showed us a dragon with silver titanium teeth, green eyes and green acid coming out of his nose! Desi could also see flying donuts that could drop zombies!! FOREST STORYPLAY back for October Holiday Week!

2025-10-17T16:27:41+00:00

Over The Children’s Wood we flew - Up, up, up with our Flying Balloons! We saw a boat going along, we saw small trees, we saw a big dark sea monster and a rainbow snake with a lollipop!   The Children’s Wood truly is a favourite spot for us at Licketyspit and we LOVED our Forest Storyplay sessions this October Holiday Week! On Tuesday families came from our Bridgeton Hub and Cranhill Hub for a day of play, friends, food and nature - what a hoot!  We danced, played Funky Chicken and had a brilliant Flying Balloons adventure. We all became Rainbow Snakes using our brilliant technique for Dressing Up - in old any old clothes we can wear in such fabulous ways that we can be anyone and anything we can imagine! While we made ourselves as dapper as cool Rainbow Snakes this Mean Woman suddenly appeared shouting at us all asking - ‘Are you all here for the Rainbow Snake audition? Are you?! Hurry up we don’t have all day!’ Suddenly we found ourselves auditioning for this Mean Woman and her Photographer assistant! ‘You, you and you! Step forward! Ok, what are your audition pieces??’ Of course we didn’t know what she meant. But she carried on bossing us about saying - ‘Can you dance or sing, or at least can you [...]

Extravagant Forest Creatures, Wolves, a flying adventure and a Magic Ball out of this world.   The sun eventually shone on our last Forest Storyplay of this Summer and our Maryhilll Hub friends were more than ready to bring it to a magnificent end. Yasna went with the Funny Orca and Aveen with a Funny Crab! Eman showed us a Silly Parrot, Maya a Scratchy Lion and Mohammed a Fast Cheetah. Flying up high with our Flying Balloons we saw a silver snake and a forest, an elephant, dots that were flowers, an African elephant, an elephant eating a boat, dragons, Mars! a costume party and we even flew down to the ground momentarily to get a piece of flavoured cake! The Forest had some exotic creatures: two squirrels, a fox, a cat, a bird, two butterflies and a girl that lives in the wild –all of them were wanting to know what time they were at?! What’s The Time Mr. Wolf? Wolfie Rita lived by herself in a puddle that was sometimes warm and sometimes cold. Her fave food was blueberries and her red watch she stole from a shop! Wolfie Squirrel [...]

Forest Storyplay with our Castlemilk Hub!

2025-09-02T16:56:50+00:00

Our Castlemilk Hub pals were excited to take flight at The Children’s Wood! It was delightful to meet and Storyplay with our Castlemilk Pals who were very smiley in the Big Circle and ready to get warmed up and have a go at Funky Chicken. We had a cracking game of Flying Balloons that started with Abu spotting people walking on grass before Taz saw some camels! Then to our amazement Jessica spotted a big tyre swing with a pink dragon on it and Susannah saw a giraffe! There were dinos dancing and dragons making a chicken BBQ with salad – well spotted Fiire! And some penguins with a stall giving out flavoured candy floss Then we met Forest Creatures like a Fighting Dragon, a Unicorn, a Jellyfish, a Ladybug, a Snake and a Flower moving in the wind - amongst others! We also of course met the Wolves who will tell you the time at your own risk! Wolfie Abu lived in a dark scary cave. He had secret jewellery and stuff to sell and he found his watch while digging up a cave. Fiire was Nice Wolfie, who lived in a sky tree house, ate bugs and liked to hang out with her friends. She found her watch - so someone must have lost it! Wolfie Avery liked diamonds and had lived [...]

Our bright Cranhill friends brought the sunshine with them to The Children’s Wood last Friday! Excitement was in the air as we all hugged and smiled delighted to be together again for some Storyplay fun. Our circle was BIG and our warm-up was BUSY! We had a very inspired game of Funky Chicken with some fabulous animals popping into our circle. We had a Scary Spider from Silin, Anne Marie's Flying Unicorn, a King bird and a Silly Sloth! Shiva was a Lazy Bunny, Ryan was a Whizzing Wasp and Shahd was a Scary Lion! Samuel imagined a Big Elephant and Esme became a Flamingo! Gabriella fluttered like a Happy Butterfly - and so did we! We met Prisca's Cheeky Cat, and wee David's Silly Dog. Gabbie created a Happy Axolotl......interesting! We also met a few Mr. Wolves with extremely cool watches and a dangerous appetite for the Forest Creatures we had dressed up as! Magic Ball! Magic Ball! Take us where we want to go! Have you ever been to Axolotl land?  Well that’s where our Magic Ball landed on Friday morning with our Cranhill Pals. Forest Storyplay with our Whiteinch Hub!

2025-09-02T16:57:07+00:00

A very rainy day doesn’t stop FOREST STORYPLAY because our Whiteinch Hub pals are a very happy bunch! The rain came after all these hot days we’ve had in Glasgow and it is a good thing really because the trees and plants get very thirsty in the hot sun. Forest Storyplay at The Children’s Wood truly is a Storyplay session for all weathers and our brilliant Whiteinch Hub families had put on their waterproofs and their imaginations ready for their turn! One of the best things about Licketyspit’s Summer trips is when we get to see each other after a good while and everyone is so delighted! There were hugs and smiles all around. The tarpaulins – which are big cloths that we tie to tree brunches to create cover from the rain – were up between the tree-tops so we had a couple of dry areas to play and have lunch under but of course the rest of The Children’s Wood was fully available to run around, get muddy and find all sorts of interesting bugs – ask bug expert Milad! Funky Chicken brought us Semra as ‘The Crazy Bee’, Milad as ‘The Scary Mouse’, Shalah as ‘The Scary Chicken’ and Nedaa as 'The Slithering Snake’ to name but a few! Flying Balloons was the perfect game to create a fabulous flying [...]

Forest Storyplay with our Bridgeton Hub!

2025-09-02T16:57:37+00:00

Our cheery Bridgeton hub had a blooming good time at The Children’s Wood. They arrived nice and early and there were many smiles and hugs because we were all together again! Sarah taught us The Children’s Wood Rhyme and Andre helped us all to make ourselves as Big AS A Bear to warm up. We flew high above the Wood in our Flying Ballo0ns and then we met exquisite creatures with the Funky Chicken - crocodiles, sharks, a happy cat, a naughty elephant, even a Dancing Cricket! Dressing up was inspiring and inspired – our Bridgeton pals are particularly skilled at using old clothes to turn themselves into the most fabulous characters. They imagined the most colourful animals and creatures that lived in this Forest – a crocodile and a princess cat unicorn, a tiger, a flamingo, a flying squirrel, a giraffe, a chicken and a baby mouse! Did you know that in this forest only one animal has a watch? And when the forest creatures need to know the time there’s no other option but to ask, ‘What’s The Time Mr. Wolf’? We had Wolfie Rasha who lived in the same tunnel she found her watch in & Wolfie Maab who live in a tree and found her watch in the sky! Wolfie Emilia had a purple watch that matched her purple house! [...]

Forest Storyplay with Govan & Online Hubs!

2025-09-08T10:41:23+00:00

Welcome to the land of the Children’s Wood, it’ s a Wood that’s here for children and that’s understood! The sun was shining on the gorgeous Children’s Wood for the first Forest Storyplay of the season with our friends from Govan and Online Hubs. It is always so exciting to see the Licketyspit families again for the Summer programme of Storyplay and everyone was in great form to get it kick-started. Andre, Sarah, Taz and Virginia were all there joined by our fabulous volunteers Zainab and Taiwo. Did you know that Zainab and Taiwo have been playing with Licketyspit since 2019! It's fabulous that now that they are older, they still love Storyplay! Andrea from The Children’s Wood was also with us for Storyplay and to teach us forest-skills - like fire-making! It’s a place for us to PLAY and hide and seek and run. It's a place to have a picnic, it's a place to have fun!   Once we made our circle we learned The Children’s Wood Welcome Rhyme! The Children’s Wood it’s a green space in our city of Glasgow that is being looked after by the community. So of course we can play and have a lovely time there but also we can help to look after the Wood by being very careful with the trees, plants, bugs and beasties that live there and by not stepping over the [...]
