The Saturday pals gathered for the last Storyplay Online of the Winter wearing fabulous outfits and beautiful smiles!

Andre, Sarah and Taz announced that they had all been invited to a party by three rather eccentric people called RuRu, Fibi and Gigi!

‘Please dress to impress! By which we mean get your cool on and your creativity shining!’

And to the music beat off they went to rummage around the house to find all sorts of fantastic bits and bobs to create the most incredible outfits.

‘Oh my! You all look absolutely dapper!’ ‘Ever so smart’ ‘And oh so inspiring!’

The tunes were banging and the guests were admired! 

‘Now to the Catwalk! We all must share our fantastic selves with the world. Please my dear guests…strut your stuff!’

What a catwalk that was! The style, the poise, the brilliant dance moves and the POSES! 

Everyone was feeling great even though some were a little shy to begin with but soon they relaxed and felt fine! And it felt really nice to take a moment to shine and a moment to appreciate others shining too!

a big turtle for Gigi!

a rocking horse for everyone!

What a brilliant party to end our Winter block of Storyplay sessions.

Fabulous Grannies!

Wednesday 29th March

A truly fabulous time was had by all on our wonderful forest adventure and we met some great new friends!

Forest creatures

First we saw some huge bears who were actually quite gentle, some very sneaky foxes and a lot of beautiful swooping and gliding birds. Funnily enough, that Funky Chicken also had some amazing pals to introduce us to and I don’t think we’ll ever forget Rita’s Just a Dog who was so bouncy and Ameerah’s Fat Lion, who was very strong, Jdile’s T Rex Dino, who was very tall and Mohammed’s Crazy Owl, who flew super fast. 

The Catwalk

After all this animal excitement, we decided to get dressed up and show everyone our fine costumes on the Catwalk – there were so many colourful characters and styles, it was just spectacular!

Tomato Pie

We decided with glee that we all looked like incredibly glamorous grannies and in that second, we were mysteriously transported to the wild forests of California where we found ourselves smack, bang in the middle of Granny Ameerah’s garden which was covered in tomato plants. She was the most friendly of Californian grannies and liked to make Tomato pie and although she was a little scared of the trees that transformed into Monsters sometimes, she was very brave and always made an excellent Tomato Pie.

Underpants Poison?!

One minute we were munching delicious tomato pie and the next, we found ourselves in a rather smelly cave in London and who should appear but the fabulous Granny Mohammed who actually grew Underpants Poison! It was really quite a sweet smell like liquorice and aniseed and smelly socks all mixed together, but Granny Mohammed liked it and was definitely not scared of any Monster Trees. In fact, they were more scared of Granny M as it turned out they did not like the perfume of smelly socks. Then, just when we thought we were almost home, we rolled down a hill and landed right at the feet of the amazing Grannies Rainbow Friend and Butterfly.

It was very warm in their garden with the sun beating down and as we looked around there were rows of colourful watermelons and strawberries and tomatoes. It looked so beautiful and then we saw their house! Wow! It was blue and yellow and made entirely of wood and stone rock and they’d built it all by themselves! These grannies were strong and made a delicious strawberry and apple pie. I’m sure I saw the Monster Trees sniffing the air as the smell was so good.

We had such a great day being glamorous grannies and finding out about all the different types of grannies there are in the world.

Many Pirate Captains got wind of this and decided to form the most crooked crew the Seven Seas had ever seen:

The crew was complete with Captain Bossy who is a great look out!

We saw lots of stars in Cranhill last week!

Wednesday 15th March

All of us bravely blasted into space in the Magic Ball and together we space walked with Heather in a strange new atmosphere….

It was light and floaty and made us feel weightless.

We tried space-running and bouncing and that felt amazing! 

Then suddenly an alien came and spoke to us in a funny beeping language that we’d never heard before, but fortunately, Donald and Mohammed were able to understand that the beeping alien was very hungry.

Heather gave her chocolate which she ate very quickly and seemed to like very much, then we gave her cake as well.

She really seemed to love sweet treats and after those snacks she seemed very happy and waved goodbye to us as she floated off into the atmosphere!

Next we discovered a beach with very soft, warm, pale blue sand that you wanted to wiggle your toes in. Zamn took us to some frozen jellyfish who were looking up at us from the edge of the shore.

The frozen jellyfish were all the colours of the rainbow and so beautiful to see.

Zamn also discovered that the soft blue sand was actually moon sand.

Moon sand is well known for being magical and when you press your feet into it, something exciting usually happens. Well something exciting did indeed happen, we met Red Bob, the Red Blob who appeared from behind a moon rock and looked around as if worried. 

Donald thought he was lost, but it turned out he was hungry too, just like the alien –  I think they’re struggling for food up in that part of space, so it was lucky we had plenty with us. Ezra announced, “ I have a food in my pocket !” and Red Bob the Red Blob was very pleased. We also gave him some cooked sausages and he was quite delighted. Aga was excited to give him something more sweet to eat and we all decided it might be a good idea to bake a cake.

It turned out that everyone was good at baking and we made a marvellous cake with

• milk and strawberries
• flour and eggs
• spinach and sugar
• then more strawberries!
• we added Nutella and vanilla
• marshmallows and pineapple
• tea and a heater
• a generous dollop of shower gel
• strawberry ice-cream and cucumber
• sausage and smelly socks
• even more sugar
• then plenty of sprinkles on top!

It was such a tasty snack, but then it was time to head back to the Magic Ball, and guess what? We couldn’t find it!

We didn’t know what to do.

Then Mohammed said we need to go to the fairy godmother who has lots of Magic Balls and can help us.

We found her in the thick of the Moon-forest

It turned out she was quite a grumpy old Fairy Grandmother.

She would only help if we sang her a song.

Well, she was very lucky, because we did know a fantastic song about a truly awesome Grandma and we sang it to her right there in the Moon-forest.

As soon as we started singing she became very cheerful and joined in singing and dancing with us, and she had some great dance moves!

After that, she was happy to give us a Magic Ball and we happily travelled home.

What a fabulous time we had! Can’t wait to come back to Cranhill for some more Magic Ball adventures, see you next time!

Fabulous Producer and her partner in show Top Hat Producer were in need of some fresh, innovative, entertaining and inspiring acts for their Variety Show. Everyone knows that what makes a Variety Show really, really good is to have various different acts that can entertain and make audiences happy and that can show to the world the hilarity and ingenuity of the different artists!.

‘But Our Variety Show is getting tired and old. We haven’t had new acts for quite some time now, partner.’

‘We need new talent!’

‘Well, have you heard of the Licketyspit Saturday Pals? I hear very good things! They seem to be a very creative and playful bunch…. Let’s put a call out for Variety Acts to them!’

The Licketyspit Saturday pals did not disappoint and attended the Call Out in droves!

The most exquisite costumes were created for the occasion and some brilliant acts were waiting to burst out and amaze the Theatre Producers…

‘Welcome y’all! It is fabulous to be here and hopefully it will also be fabulous to see and like your acts because…we really need some fresh material!’

‘Thanks for coming. Now…let’s begin. First up is…Muizza Madame Singer, please!’

‘Hello, I’m Madame Singer and I sing and dance. I sing Lullaby songs’.

‘I dance to Beat Box music,’ Fire The Dancer immediately started dropping a beat and jumping around!

Pemi The Magician Of Magic managed to make a toy turn into an animal and Aliya The Footballer performed impossible football tricks!

Esther, Goodness & Glory Rock Stars had formed a fantastic music band with guitar, percussion and singing.

Ameen The Puppeteer performed a scene with his sock puppets and his partner Amir The Fortune Teller told the Theatre Producers they had a bright future ahead of them.

’We are gonna be STARS’ whispered Fabulous Producer to Top Hat Producer.

Victoria The Musical Kid played her latest song on her guitar and Fikayo The Singing Grandma sang accompanied by Temi The Viola Playing Grandpa.

Muhammed The Mind Reader guessed that Top Hat Producer was precisely thinking ‘pinneaple’ and Fabulous Producer was precisely thinking ‘chocolate’. And his Amazing Assistant Adeelah who can juggle while balancing an octopus on her head did precisely that! She juggled oranges while balancing a huge octopus on her head!

Fabulous & Top Hat were speechless. But only for like 5 seconds.

‘Y’all are AMAZING but there’s a final test we have to put to you.’

The best ever round of In The Way Of The Word ensued!

The Licketyspit Saturday Pals are such experts at play that this became the most hilarious game ever showcasing phenomenal miming skills and solid guessing qualities!

‘You are all HIRED! We are going to tour the most amazing Variety Show the world has ever seen!’

Top Hat & Fabulous were happy as Larry and the Licketyspit Saturday Pals did once more have a brilliant Saturday morning improvising and imagining.

Saturday 4th March 2023

Herbert The Hedgehog happily strolled through the forest. It was a cold but sunny Saturday morning and on his way he met the world famous Three Craws! – who love nothing better than to perch on a tree branch under the moonshine.

The Three Craws introduced Herbert to a whole new bunch of animal pals; he met Barry The Sheep, Mr. Other Wolf and Crocodile Desire. Also Mrs.Octopus Queen of Octopus, the Queen Of Sharks & Unicorn Mermaid were there visiting!.

Mr. Silly Cheetah and Mittens The Pink Cat, Banana The Lion and his Human Friend showed up too. Brian The Tiger, Snowy The Panda, Meely The Dalmatian with the big belly and Oceana The Mermaid Unicorn didn’t want to miss out on the fun! And Rich Dragon and his Bodyguard turned up even though Rich Dragon was sad cause he had lost a scale…such a gathering of fantastic creatures!

‘What’s the time Mr.Wolf? – it’s 2 o’clock – time for a bath!’

3 o’clock- time to go to the garden to pick flowers!

4 o’clock- time to dance!

5 o’clock- time to go for a walk

7 o’clock- time for DINNER!’

Mr. Wolf loves a watch! He has different ones he has collected through the years!  A blue water one with mermaid scales that his sister found, a glitter with diamonds and gold one, a rainbow watch that he got from the Queen of Owls and a gold and fur watch that he got from Mittens The Pink Cat!.

After having a good old play Herbert noticed a Magic Ball hiding between some mushrooms and in all the animal pals popped and off they went for a Magic Ball adventure!

‘In Candyland things aren’t what they seem and they definitely don’t taste as they should!’

It was a bit shocking to realise that candy floss can have onion flavour and that the ground of Candyland though lovely and pink in colour, tastes nothing like strawberry….

Unicorn Christabel showed everyone how to fly like her and Unicorn Muizza gave out Unicorn Dust to eat and help with the flight. And so they flew over a forest full of dragons and decided that they had to explore it!.

As they landed a boy called James Shapeshifter told them about this Dragon football match that was about to kick off but there were not enough dragons to play so they joined in and showed off their football skills and Ope scored!

HUZZAH!!!

The match made everyone hungry so they thought to go foraging in the Dragon’s Forest. They found blackberries and raspberries that shrunken everyone! Luckily Mittens The Pink Cat knew that eating healthy food makes one grow so she found apples, bananas, oranges, pears, blueberries, even grapes and passed them on so everyone could grow back to their sizes to go back home on the Magic Ball after a most excellent adventure!.

Govan was just delightful and packed full of magical adventures!

Wednesday 1st March

We danced our socks off in the groovy Dance Warm-Up with some mighty fine moves from Bimbo, Toby, Shadda, Sami and Mohammed to get us all warmed up.

Then we met some of the Funky Chicken’s new pals. It was just marvellous to meet the two Biggies – Tiger and Hedgehog – and then the Sharp-Nailed Sloth and a very Happy Axolotl. What a treat!

We were searching for the Magic Ball and Shadda and Azeem managed to find  different pieces of it which we stuck together. After Ameen and Amir remembered the song, we sang it all together. Off we went to a far off land that was very white and snowy…

Where we found a Penguin!

Mohammed saw it, in amongst all the mist and the icicles, and fortunately he was able to speak the special Penguin language of this land!

He let us all know that this poor wee shy penguin was lost! It looked very worried, so we were so glad when Bayan said she knew the way to her home! We all bravely followed Bayan, trudging through the snow and when we arrived, it turned out that the wee, shy penguin loved snowball fights, especially with her Penguin best friend who came to join us and we all had the best time playing around in the sparkling white snow!

After all that jumping about and dodging snowballs, we were all very thirsty and the shy Penguin’s pal gave us some Antarctic frozen juice. It was unlike anything we’d ever tasted before – icy and sparkly and fizzily, fruitily magical! Of course then we were also extremely hungry and the penguins seemed keen on the idea of baking a cake.

But not just an ordinary cake, no! A super sweet and fishy penguin-tastically delicious-

• a little bit of fish
• some carrots
• salt, chocolate
• a big drizzle of honey
• Bimbo’s scrumptious vanilla
• spicy biryani
• succulent strawberries
• Mira’s strawberry ice-cream
• purple cake
• Andre’s unforgettable mini me’s!

We were all singing Happy Birthday To Us, when a sad boy appeared. He was crying because no-one had remembered his birthday! Well Shadda was very kind and suggested we give our home-made birthday cake to the sad boy and it made him so pleased that he turned into Happy Boy and then he was so happy-

He invited us all to his underwater party!

Just close your eyes, he said,  and then as if by magic, the sea came and washed over us all in a big blue wave and suddenly we were able to breathe underwater and swim and marvel at all the wonderful sea creatures around us.

We met a Shark, so we did a Seaweed Freeze in case he was scary. But he wasn’t. In fact, he was actually a hungry, happy Shark who loved the strawberry ice-cream we gave him. ‘Thank-you,’ he said, and called out to the boy, ‘Happy Birthday!’

Finally, we met a Mermaid who said if we all swam up to the surface and back to land, there was soon to be a tasty feast for us.

But first she asked if we might draw her some pictures of our wonderful adventures. And so we did!

Messy play makes for hilarious play!

Saturday 25th February

We concocted a glorious Mucky Brew covering ourselves with eggshells and soil, crumbled unicorn cookies, honey, flour, a bucket of chocolate pudding, raw eggs, honey on our legs & uncooked porridge in our mouths…

Beautifully sticky! Fabulously stinky! Incredibly revolting! HILARIOUSLY MESSY!

And out of that fabulously stinky mess, a very messy bunch of Monsters appeared!

We met One Leg Unicorn Monster & Bat Monster, Smart Monster & Scary Monster, Smelly Fly Monster, The Hattery Monster with her bag of hats, Spider Monster, Magic Monster & even Hero Monster came along.

Worried Monster found a wee ball but all the other Monsters knew that was no ordinary ball but a Magic Ball and so our messy journey began!

All the monsters landed in a cave that had a rather weird echo… we tried roaring and Magic Monster played with the echo by making a groovy sound that came back even groovier.

A few spiders appeared and as Nest Monster was telling everyone how unsure about them she was, a much bigger spider showed up! The Monsters wanted to chase it away but they discovered the spider was upset-

‘I got many legs but I don’t know what to do with them’.

So the Monsters shared their best dance moves and the Big Spider was delighted to learn such great shapes.

As a thank you, Big Spider gave out spider threads for the journey…the Monsters climbed the threads and got to a circus audition!

Lead by a crazy marshmallow eating juggler, whose trick was to juggle many marshmallows, eat them and then go for a nap.

The Monsters chose their audition circus pieces. There were impressive magicians and juggler wannabes!

Suddenly one of the marshmallows grew and grew…

and spat us out to Wonderland where the Princesses wanted precisely 20 marshmallows from the Marshmallow Lake where marshmallows grow inside shells.

All the Monsters dived in and managed to get very many because when you ate one marshmallow it would multiply, so it was a marshmallow bonanza!

Magic Monster Muhammad arrived with a help note from Faridah who had been kidnapped by another monster! So we took a diversion and arrived in a forest where a very decisive Cockney Penguin guided us through the Sticky Forest to the Big Tree. Monster Hattery realised that the Big Tree had a Magic Branch so we pulled it and HUZZAH! There was Faridah!

Rescue mission accomplished!

Our Saturday Storyplay was very messy and very fun, because messy play makes for hilarious play!

‘We could make the biggest cake in the world!’

Tuesday 21st February

Chef Guacamole & side-kick Chef Octopus Jelly were in a bit of a pickle.

The biggest celebration in town was about to take place on Saturday and our chef friends were quite unprepared.

You see, all the children of the town share the same birthday and this special occasion definitely needs a bit of flair.

‘But the children are just SO BORED of our recipes!’

said Chef Guacamole

‘Yes! They are no longer so interested in my delicious octopus jellies …’

sighed Chef Octopus Jelly

‘We could make the biggest cake in the world!’

The fabulous Storyplay Chefs came to the rescue.

 ‘Oh wow! Will you help us? We could do with the help of some very creative chefs from around the world.’

Mrs Purple Chef makes purple food and Rainbow Chef makes rainbow cakes. Tiger Chef cooks chocolate and collaborates with his close friend Ketchup Chef.

Chef Junior makes tomato pasta and Colourful Chef makes colourful food. Even the famous Ninja Chef came by to help!

‘Right chefs! Let’s get going!’ 

The Recipe

A great big egg to start

chili sauce and rice and salt,

a scary monster and ketchup,

and add pancakes and salad.

Stir in blueberries and straws

mermaids and unicorns too.

Have you heard of Ben & Holly,

throw them in the mix, woohoo!

Spoon the mix into the tin

and put the tin in the oven.

Bake it well till you can smell

delicious aromas all over!

And now let’s decorate with blue sprinkles,

love hearts & pink frosting!

Pineapple and apples,

rainbow sprinkles,

sparkles, icing

And some birthday candles!

The cake was a success and the Licketyspit children saved the day again, for the great big gorgeous cake was made with special love and care!

Back for a winter family meet up!

Wednesday 15th February

What fabulous adventures we had at Castlemilk Library with all our friends and their families on Wednesday!

After a very groovy Dancing Warm-up, a meeting with lots of Funky animals and some very Mucky Brew, we dressed up as lots of wonderful characters.

This included the amazing Mrs Silly from Silly-land created by Abdul, who got us to do lots of silly moves that made us feel great.

Then suddenly, Ruby spotted the Magic Ball! Of course it was extremely tiny,  so we had to blow it up to fit us all in. Then we stepped inside and zipped ourselves up, ready for a new adventure.

We talked of going to Africa, to Birmingham, to Space, to Candy-land and when we did actually arrive, we found ourselves facing a giant spider!  We quickly had to decide what to do next.

First we were very afraid and shouted out “Stop annoying us!”, then we considered some bug spray, but the spider did actually seem a bit scared of us, so we couldn’t do that, then Sayeda finally came up with the plan of making friends with the spider! Well, it turned out the spider was a lovely creature and Abu was able to speak in Spidery (The language of spiders), so he  found out that she was very kind and wanted to give us all some chocolate! 

The chocolate was so delicious and magical and tasted of many interesting flavours, one being broccoli which was actually very tasty! I wonder if this spider made her own chocolate?

Then we were very thirsty and fortunately found a large pool of beautiful clear water and some buckets. We had a bucket of water each and drank until we felt full of energy and just had to dance!

This was so much fun and everyone had their own special style of dancing. After this we we all felt it was time for a swim. The water looked so cool and clear and felt so lovely, although it was also a bit scary as we did briefly spot a shark! Aaaagh!

It seemed that we had now reached the sea!

The shark disappeared as quickly as it had arrived though and very soon we found ourselves swimming with thousands of clownfish with beautiful scales of orange and white and black. We were all feeling so relaxed and after a while swam up to the surface.

It was lovely to have a wee rest on the beach and think about what we might have to eat. Well, as luck would have it, we were in exactly the right place because as if by magic, two chefs appeared, both saying they were better at cooking than the other one. We decided that we would have cake and we all made a cake together!

Abu put in M & M’s and Nabilah added 100 percent spicy sauce. Rukayat measured 3 cups of sugar and 5 mushrooms went in from Abdul. Then it was time for the cinnamon sauce and baking powder from Shirley and 5 kilos of milk from Harry. Aishah added cup cakes, ice lollies and everything and Nusaibah suggested donuts as glasses should go on top. With Sekinat’s strawberries, Sayeda’s bananas and the French chef’s Eiffel Tower, it looked absolutely spectacular!

Other toppings included blue jelly, mermaids, donuts, strawberries, sprinkles, icing and carrot gold candles. The cake was very fiery and delicious and we all enjoyed the multitude of flavours in each slice!

What a treat and the children were so amazing, they even sorted out the quarrel between the chef’s about who was better at cooking.

Children sorted out the competition – they said the chefs should be friends and bake together as they were both good and they both got medals.

What a wonderful day and that cake really was the best tasty treat ever!
