A Very Hungry Giant in Witchland!

2023-11-07T16:03:19+00:00

Wednesday 1st November 2023 We had an incredible time with our Whiteinch Library families at our Spookiest Porridge & Play Whiteinch session yet! And it was great to be joined by some new faces too! To set the tone for a spooky Storyplay adventure Steven read the Wee Witches poem by our very own Virginia! Sitting in our circle we all paused to listen…   “What do you think a witch is like? Does a witch ride a broomstick or ride on a bike? Does a witch wear gold? Or red, or black?.... ..... How would like a witch to be? Is it like her or is it like me.” With that final question we found ourselves thinking… well... the witches could be...like all of us? In fact, we could all be whatever witches we want to be... Let's... DRESS UP AS WITCHES!!! GREAT IDEAA!!!! Super great in fact because at Licketyspit we know that dressing up and getting into character is something we can ALL do, all we need is a bag of old clothes and our imaginations to transform into whatever our Witchy hearts and minds desire!! So, with us all dressed up it was time to meet some new Witchy friends! Woosh round the room into the magic circle we met Witch Bronwyn who lives in the clouds, Witch Amjad who lives on the moon. 2023-10-31T13:13:39+00:00

Wednesday 25th October 2023 We LOVE food at Whiteinch Library Porridge & Play! We love to EAT it, MAKE it and even WEAR IT! Our Whiteinch friends had a grand time at Porridge & Play this week exploring all things foodie… We made a fab MUCKY BREW! We got to make a fantastic mess wearing all sorts of imaginary food... Egg, flour, expired hot dogs for shoes, last week’s chocolate candy in your ears, donuts on your face… The MUCKY BREW can go on forever because at the end, when you are all messy and sticky you can just hop in the shower and wash yourself to the tune of ‘The Washing Song!’ We BAKED A CAKE with the input of our fantastic Whiteinch Chefs who are packed full of pioneering culinary ideas! The result was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Check out these incredible ingredients: Baking soda, cow’s milk , 3 eggs, flour, chocolate, 1 glass of sugar, baking powder, fish, 3 drops of strawberry, a smelly sock, lemon zest, mango, 30% baking soda, roses, a strawberry donut, 3 packets of oreos and a rainbow lassoed out of the sky! We stirred in EVERYTHING, baked it in the oven and had a great tasting session and chat about our edible creation. And of course we ATE the lovely Porridge & Play spread like we do in every session [...]

A Week 6 Whiteinch Celebration!

2022-11-23T10:38:42+00:00

Wednesday 16th November 2022 This week we had our fabulous celebration! It was so much much fun getting dressed up as forest animals! We had lots of birds with one from the bird cave, a bear, a bat and a fox and also some unknown animals from unknown places. The Magic Ball was nowhere to be found until luckily Zofia found it and we climbed inside, zipped ourselves in and decided where we might go? Well, we ended up in a beautiful forest where the bird cave was and we started looking around for wolves until all of a sudden there was a mighty howling and we found two actual wolves! The only problem was, we couldn’t understand them, so Aseel and Ellie did a great job of communicating with them, because we soon discovered that the wolves were hungry and needed some food. We were so glad they were friendly wolves and didn’t want to eat us, so we happily fed them! After a while the biggest wolf started drawing a picture in the air and we wondered what he was trying to tell us, then suddenly, we realised he was drawing a clock-face and he just wanted to play his favourite game, which  was “What’s The Time Mr Wolf?" Well, we didn’t need to be asked  twice, we all love that game and were happy [...]

Woodland Creatures in Whiteinch

2022-11-07T14:26:59+00:00

Wednesday 2nd November 2022 Well, what a fabulous pack of wolves and woodland creatures we encountered today at Whiteinch! As we gathered in the forest, it was delightful to meet Eeman the kangaroo, Frankey the Fox, Ellie the Magical Animal, Aseel the bat and Zofia Zebra and they were all so friendly. It turned out, that in this forest, as in many, I suspect, the Wolf is the only creature to own a watch and so the animals must ask politely for the time. I say politely, because... We definitely didn’t want to be rude and get eaten as scrumptious snacks by Wolfy! Anyway, we quickly gathered that there were a number of amazing wolves living in this forest and they all had incredibly fancy watches! The first one we happened upon was Rainbow Wolf Juliet and she liked to look for food at 6pm, so we all had to run pretty quickly and hide up the trees so she didn’t catch us. Just when we thought we were home and dry, we found Frankey the football wolf, who’d got his watch from the Galaxy. At 5pm he goes to Morrisons to buy food, so that was lucky for us! He clearly prefers going to the supermarket. Wolf Clare then miraculously appeared and explained that she lives on Cheese Moon and likes to pick up Stinky cheese [...]

The Whiteinch Witches

2022-11-01T12:47:49+00:00

Wednesday 26th October 2022 Another whirlwind adventure in Whiteinch this week and we got to meet the fabulous Whiteinch Witches! There was Witchy Aseel,  who had a great cackle and a magic frog, Witchy Witch, who came on a broomstick and liked to eat blood - Aaaargh! Scary pumpkin biscuits!!! Then Witchy Frankey who appeared on a Rainbow magic flying carpet,  Witchy Eemaan, who came flying in to meet us and Witchy Juliet, who  actually arrived in a flying car that can turn into anything. So exciting! Witchy Sienna’s favourite food turned out to be wriggly worms and Witchy Clare came on a headless horse that can fly and lives in a cloud castle. That was a bit scary! Witchy Annabelle arrived on a horse and cart and said happily, that she likes to eat green slime from frogs. I wonder if green slime is tasty? If Witchy Annabelle likes it, it might be worth a try! After that, we all felt like a wee adventure somewhere else. Zofia thought we might try under the sea. Unicorn land was an idea from Juliet and Aseel thought Fairyland might be a good plan. Frankey suggested Hot Wheel City and Hunter liked the idea of Softland. We all wondered where we might end up and when we arrived, it looked a bit misty to me, so I asked Frankey, [...]

Mermaids, monsters and… grannies!!

2022-10-25T10:16:55+00:00

Wednesday 19th October 2022 What  marvellous adventures we had today! After meeting Ambreen’s Angry Lion, Zofia’s Funny Mermaid and Violet’s Angry Crocodile, we found ourselves in the company of some very fashionable Grannies, who absolutely loved their food! Some Grannies love their food Granny Kouser told us how she loved to go to Ireland to look at scenery and eat chips. Granny Selina said she preferred to eat ham with chips and enjoyed living in her flat of bricks. Granny Gemma, on the other hand, liked to go to the hills and eat peanut butter sandwiches and Granny Hunter was a big fan of  chips and fish fingers. Sounds yummy, grannies! We also had the pleasure of meeting the intrepid explorer Granny Gemma, who had been to see rainbow coloured dinosaurs And Granny Ellie, who  lived in a house of vines and made Daisy Cakes. Look out for the trees! It wasn’t long though, before we found ourselves in a huge forest where it’s said that sometimes, when grannies aren’t looking, the trees start to turn into Monsters!!! Well, I did manage to chat to a few of those grannies and it turned out that they were very resourceful and brave and not scared of Silly Tree Monsters at all! Granny Ellie told me she could actually  turn trees into flowers, so she was safe. Granny Gemma just [...]

Storyplay is back at the Library!

2022-10-14T12:42:40+00:00

Wednesday 12th October 2022 Our first session at Whiteinch was super exciting with lots of new faces and a whole load of imaginative adventures.  We all played the Funky Chicken and learned some new animals too! We met: Eeman’s jumpy kangaroo Ellie’s silly cow Dàire’s T Rex Kouser’s Kangaroo and Kemjii’s lazy cow!  Flying Balloons We were having so much fun we thought it might also be good to go flying in the sky with our Balloons... We travelled across the whole world and ended up in the Antarctic where it was so chilly we needed extra jumpers. We actually saw a Fairyland cloud and a castle, a butterfly, ducks, an orange fish, a slide, a unicorn  and dinosaurs including a T Rex. A dragon breathed some fire on the ice castle (I think he was trying to warm us up!) and meanwhile, we found a place where they were giving out ice-creams! Hunter  really enjoyed his strawberry one and Virginia’s tasted of onion! Dressing up as Grannies! We opened up two big bags of fantastic Dressing Up clothes and we all got very excited. So many colours and styles to choose from! Once we dressed up, we changed into a variety of characters and I was lucky enough to interview many of them. So many delightful outfits and among them were Grace the ninja Kemjii who flew in [...]
