We may all be at home, but in our imaginations we can go anywhere, be anyone, do anything. All we need to play is each other!

Big Porridge & Play has been created with and for children and supports families to tap into their imaginations for hours of joy, excitement, creative learning and connection.

Join the dedicated Facebook Group for your community and the Children & Families Network Facebook Group for lots of other activities and  ideas for things to do at home in between sessions like the Cooking, Exploring and Making videos!

These sessions are bigger as they are open to families from across our Children & Families Network. You are welcome to join these too, just bear in mind that the format will be a bit difference – there isn’t time for everyone to have a turn so it’s more about all joining in together!

Hare & Tortoise Audio-Show Online

We’re very excited to be sharing the audio-show version of Hare & Tortoise in 9 Episodes on our website!

 EVERY NIGHT @ 7pm from 10th-18th May on our Facebook Page.

Tortoise challenges boastful Hare to a race, but who will win this famous contest? Adapted from Aesop’s classic fable, Licketyspit’s  Hare & Tortoise is a hilarious, highly energetic and imaginative piece of interactive theatre.

Bake the race cake with the Bun Brothers, try and survive a night in the spooky wood with a ukulele and cheer on the contestants!

The Audio-Show version is performed by Virginia Radcliffe and Deborah Arnott with music by Tim Brinkhurst.

Molly Whuppie Audio-Show Online

We’re very excited to be sharing the audio-show version of Molly Whuppie in 12 Episodes on our website!

 EVERY NIGHT @ 7pm from 7th-18th April on the Molly Whuppie Page!

There are some pictures to accompany the story, but you can just listen to it too without watching the screen – perfect at bedtime as a #lockdown Easter break treat!

Look out for some activities to do after you’ve finished listening to the story! The episodes will be up to listen and share for free until the end of April.

This is Virginia Radcliffe’s adaptation of a traditional tale of this amazing Scottish superhero who has captured the imagination of thousands of children since it was first produced in 2000. Monday 16th March 2020

We had a wonderful session of outdoor Storyplay with the bubbly and energetic P6/5’s at Miltonbank in their last session.

The whole class remembered how to warm up by making yourself as Big as Bear! And as Fast as a Hare! You can do the Warm Up at home with this video.

We had some brilliant bird like running as well! We loved warming up outside today! We played ON / OFF which is a good game for playing at home around a rug with your family.

The Funky Chicken is popular with this class who are full of great invented animals and actions which were quite hilarious!

Following on from last week the P/65’s have the collective voice of an angel as they remembered every line of Grandma Grandma and sang with such great energy and enthusiasm! It was a very cool and funky version!

We played a variation of What’s the Time Mr.Wolf Licketyspit style! We met some brilliant and terrifying wolves! We had Kiera Wolf, Ali Wolf and Asfa Wolf! What did the wolves get us all to do?!

We grabbed tightly onto our Flying Balloons and we flew so high we left the earth’s atmosphere and floated around in space! We saw Saturn and Rockets and way down to the Sea.

This is a great game to play at home, it can take you as far away as your imagination can go…why not go to India or Ecuador from your bedroom?

We also met poor Miss Mary Mac Mac Mac, all dressed in black black black! What was this rhyme about? Can you remember the story?

We had such a wonderful time this week and remember all of our games can be played at home, all you need is your imagination to take you anywhere you want and play any game you desire! We’ll be sharing regular videos, story-making prompts and other activities by email and text through through the Children & Families Network and on our Facebook Page.

Monday 16th March 2020

We had our second Storyplay session with Miltonbank’s P2’s outside! When we got cold we went into the hall.

At the end of the session we found words to describe how we felt playing these games together today and people said –  Good and  Happy, some people felt a bit tired and out of sorts because of everything that’s been going on but we also felt excited, surprised and even crazy and awesome!!

We did two different Licketyspit Warm-Up’s! We made ourselves as Big as a Bear and as Thin as a Pin and as Wobbly as a Jelly on a Plate! What other rhymes are there in our warm-ups?

We met some very excitable animals today! Babeker introduced us to the Teleporting Lion! Iona said hello to the Cheaty-Dancing Monkey! Julie welcomed the Happy Lion and we met Lexi’s Funky Monkey! We weren’t too scared to meet Liam’s Angry Lion!

We had a wonderful game of Flying Balloons. We flew high above Glasgow! Lujain saw a Bird and Iona saw a Dragon!

This game can played anywhere! Even in your front room. Remember all you need is your balloon and your imagination, that can take you anywhere you want! Tell us what you can see?!

Monsters Footsteps and new game Lets Bake a Cake were favourite games.

We put on our chef hats and our aprons and picked up our wooden spoons and we all baked a huge CAKE!! What ingredients were in our cake this week? Can you remember how the rhyme goes?

‘Let’s Bake a Cake, let’s bake a cake! Think of all the things that we like best! A little bit of this, a little bit of that, what shall we put I next?..’

We had such a brilliant play session today! We loved playing outside with the P2’s. We’re sad that we weren’t able to do Porridge & Play as planned but we’ll have lots going on that you can join in with online. Scroll down for more details!

Monday 16th March 2020

This week it was sunny so we played outside in the playground which was lovely because we could run!

We had a double warm-up this week to keep us warm while we were outside! We made ourselves as Big as a Bear and as Big as a House! Can you remember how each warm-up rhyme goes?

We played ‘Do you know the…’ (Maybe you could draw a picture of them and send it to us?)

We made up funny ways to say a big friendly ‘HELLO!’ without touching! This will be important over the next few weeks, maybe you could create a new way to say ‘HELLO!’  with people at home! Or to do through a window? I wonder what creations we could all come up with?

Flying Balloons took us way above Miltonbank and way above Glasgow!

Zara saw  beautiful shells at the bottom of the deep blue sea! Amanatta saw a dog driving a car! Sara saw a Pig in a Tree, Melody saw a Pig on a toilet! Ahmed saw a Monkey driving a car waving at the Pig in a tree! Mrs Robertson at Miltonbank – we waved. Then the seagull popped the balloons so we blew up new ones! Then we went so high we could see  Glasgow, Scotland, Mountains, the sea. Ahmed saw Monkey in a balloon! and  Maya saw the moon way up high! What will we see next time? When we play like this we can go anywhere!

We sang ‘There was a Princess Long ago!’ and we met Old Roger and the Old Women this week too! Can you remember what happened to Old Roger? Who came and took the apples and then what happened next?!!!

Then we baked a delicious cake! This cake was a bit unsual as it was blue and had smelly socks inside it! Can you remember the song? ‘Lets Bake a Cake, clap clap! Lets Bake a Cake, clap clap! Think of all the things that we like best!…’

Lickety Guide to the Coronavirus for Children

Hello!

We know lots of children are wondering what on earth is going on with this Corona Virus?

What is it?

Where does it come from?

How do you catch it?

Will I catch it? Or will my friend or someone in my family catch it?

How bad would it be to catch it?

The Corona Virus is like a bad cold or a flu – it gives you a sore head, a sore throat and a cough. For most people after a week or so of feeling poorly and staying in bed it will just go away like a normal flu and we’ll be fine.

The reason that we are stopping going to school and some people are stopping going to work. is that this is a NEW flu virus. That means that no-one has any antibodies – cells in our bodies ready to fight it – BOOM! – so if we get close to someone who has Corona Virus, we will probably catch it and then other people could catch it from us.

AND some people who might catch it from us, especially older people, or people who have been ill with other things, might need to go to hospital to help them get better AND we don’t want too many people to need to go to hospital at the same time!

That’s why we are all agreeing to be very careful NOT to catch this virus – by washing our hands every time we go in or out especially after we have sneezed or coughed AND not standing too close to people if you have to go out.

As you know, a proper hand wash is 20 seconds! Long enough to sing your favourite song a couple of times and have a wee dance while you do it – which will also make you feel GREAT!

Every day lots of people, including Licketyspit, will be putting ideas on the internet for things you can have fun doing at home as well as the activities you will be getting from your teachers. We will give you lots of stories, songs, rhymes, games and other things we think you might enjoy!

Remember children and families all over the world are at home just now. We can use the internet and the phone to share what we’re doing and inspire each other! There is no need to worry but if you do feel worried do talk about it to someone else or draw a picture about it. Worries are smaller when they’re shared and better out than in!

You don’t have to be together in the same room to play with your friends!

We can be inventive!

Everyone has a brilliant imagination.

Remember, in imaginary play we can be anyone, go anywhere, do anything!
