Licketyspit & the Coronavirus Outbreak

We are sad to announce that all of our family sessions – including Big Porridge & Play Glasgow and Picnic & Play – are now postponed until further notice

Our play sessions are social gatherings with shared food, dressing up & group play with families from across different communities. Given the current situation, we cannot bring people together in this way. We will be in touch when we can reschedule.

Meanwhile we’ll be producing increased online resources like the below& email/text communications with cheery activities for families through our Children & Families Network! Play ideas, stories, games, recipes and more – shared with & between families. We’ll be doing lots of VIRTUAL PLAY on our Facebook page and in a new CFN Facebook Group coming soon…!

These resources will be open to all – please share! Families can join the network at here or by emailing Ruby at cfn@licketyspit.com or texting 07413 800 342!

We are also very keen to share other family opportunities/resources/support. Please get in touch if there is anything you would like us share via email/ text.

Remember, our greatest resources are ourselves and we all have rich imaginations!

Hello!

We know lots of children are wondering what on earth is going on with this Corona Virus?

What is it?

Where does it come from?

How do you catch it?

Will I catch it? Or will my friend or someone in my family catch it?

How bad would it be to catch it?

The Corona Virus is like a bad cold or a flu – it gives you a sore head, a sore throat and a cough. For most people after a week or so of feeling poorly and staying in bed it will just go away like a normal flu and we’ll be fine.

The reason that we are stopping going to school and some people are stopping going to work. is that this is a NEW flu virus. That means that no-one has any antibodies – cells in our bodies ready to fight it – BOOM! – so if we get close to someone who has Corona Virus, we will probably catch it and then other people could catch it from us.

AND some people who might catch it from us, especially older people, or people who have been ill with other things, might need to go to hospital to help them get better AND we don’t want too many people to need to go to hospital at the same time!

That’s why we are all agreeing to be very careful NOT to catch this virus – by washing our hands every time we go in or out especially after we have sneezed or coughed AND not standing too close to people if you have to go out.

As you know, a proper hand wash is 20 seconds! Long enough to sing your favourite song a couple of times and have a wee dance while you do it – which will also make you feel GREAT!

Every day lots of people, including Licketyspit, will be putting ideas on the internet for things you can have fun doing at home as well as the activities you will be getting from your teachers. We will give you lots of stories, songs, rhymes, games and other things we think you might enjoy!

Remember children and families all over the world are at home just now. We can use the internet and the phone to share what we’re doing and inspire each other! There is no need to worry but if you do feel worried do talk about it to someone else or draw a picture about it. Worries are smaller when they’re shared and better out than in!

You don’t have to be together in the same room to play with your friends!

We can be inventive!

Everyone has a brilliant imagination.

Remember, in imaginary play we can be anyone, go anywhere, do anything!

St Martha’s P3/2 Session 2

Tuesday 10th March 2020

Today we had our second Playcard session with P3.2 and it was lots of fun! We met even more animals at the start of our session and everyone had the chance to draw and make up their own animal for The Funky Chicken – there were so many excellent ideas!

In our balloons we flew all the way to Nigera and we saw a volcano and lots of mums nearby baking cakes and making snacks.

We hosted our first Granny Convention where all of the children dressed up as Grannies and introduced themselves to the rest of the room. There were some very interesting characters. Then the Grannies decided they wanted a trip in the Magic Ball!

We arrived somewhere with lots of shops and went into a cafe run by lots of different grannies who all served us lunch. We had pasta, and cake, and ice–cream and coffee.

Then Kian led us to a lift that took us all the way to America. as we were exploring we had to hide behind a big rock because suddenly there were Tigers, Zebras and a Panther! We started to back away really slowly but then Shay saw a dinosaur! Luckily he was very friendly – he led us on an adventure but we saw a T-Rex and we all decided to turn into rocks to hide from the T-Rex. Thankfully Adanna and Aaron Q could speak ‘dinosaur’ and they found out that he wasn’t really scary at all and had come to lead us back to the magic ball!

I’m dressed up as a queen, like a queen Granny and I have wings on and they’re orange and pink and her age is 100 and she’s a really angry granny and she has a magic ball that is red. I don’t know why she’s angry. Nothing makes her happy except maybe leaving her alone. I had fun today, I learnt that I can dress up as a granny. We play games in a circle to have fun and you can look at everyone. I would play more. I felt good.

Jasmine

This is the magic ball and this is Granny and her age is 90 billion and she is a funky granny. She likes dancing and playing Balloons. She plays it by herself. She goes to the volcano, she’s very brave. I liked dressing up. Magic Ball & Balloons were my favourite.

Raphael

That’s my granny, that’s the scary tree behind her and that’s the magic ball and that’s my favourite game when we were flying in the balloons. I saw a castle. There was Emily in the castle, she was making. I could go to New York with my balloon, i’d go and say hi to the people there. I had fun, I could teach other people the games.

Kian

I’ve got the monsters footsteps so i’ve made two monsters and these are all the grannies and i’ve put what they are so one of them is called Fancy Granny and Orange Granny and one of them is called Lovely Granny and then I drew the magic ball and I put the zip in golden. That granny is me – the lovely granny. My favourite game was when we went in the magic ball and when we played monsters footsteps. I like dressing up, I think my family would dress up with me. My favourite was dressing as a granny and the trees. I felt good when I was playing.

Erin

I drew the magic ball in pieces because I thought it would be spectacular if I put it into pieces and coloured each one. That’s me, i’m Granny Adanna and i’m 9 trillion years old. Granny Adanna likes to use the magic ball, I want to go to Nigeria. I go and relax there. My favourite part was using the magic ball.

St Martha’s P1 Session 3

Tuesday 10th March 2020

In our third session with Primary One we all created Funky Chicken Animals and got a ride on a Dragon’s back to a nearby lake where we went for a swim!

We met the Running Zebra, Nice Tiger, Happy Cat, Silly Giraffe, Friendly Shark and so many other animals – everyone created one!

We flew off in our balloons – with suggestions we might see the beach, the jungle, aliens, cats…..! Mrs Reid saw the river and we saw some of our families and pets. Then a dragon flew over and let us climb on his back and we flew to the shores of a lake by a beach. It was an island covered in white flowers! Harry saw some ducks living on the island, Harlow saw crabs. Everyone swam in the lake and we found a statue and a rainbow treasure chest. Darceigh found the key! There were sharks too – eek! We all ate macaroni cheese, ice cream and juice handed out by different children. Then we made the silk back into a dragon and flew back to school.

We dressed up as aliens and astronauts and then turned on all the buttons in the button factory in Hello My Name is Joe.

And then we made a delicious cake in Let’s Bake a Cake. Full of strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, ice-cream and chocolate!

Primary One’s ideas and confidence has grown and grown over the last 3 weeks and we hope parents and carers will be able to come to see their characters, stories and rich imaginations at the Celebration Assembly on Tuesday March 24th at 9.15am.

The children had even more to say in the Art Gallery this week!

A snowman, a house on fire with the dragon family inside. A waterfall. A baby dragon. Fave – swimming, found a shark we had to get out it would eat us! I was an alien.

Kacey

I drew a dragon, he is a good dragon, and a sad alien. He is sad because there was no space on the dragons back. There’s a storm and the dragon will fly away. Everyone is on the dragons back.

Logan

Witches fingers. Me. A scared witch. I would wear a hat if she was a witch. Favourite thing was witches fingers. Other side – everyone dressed up!

Abiela

Me hiding behind the cake! There’s sprinkles. Rainbow golden sprinkles. I’m trying to find treasure in the cake. Wrote – I am happy I see a cake. Dressed up as an alien.

Umesha

I drew a shark. A waterfall and the astronaut. He’s taking off, he is happy, he found the waterfall. He didn’t swim in the lake because there was a shark. He’s off to space, he’ll find another planet. I felt good.

St Martha’s P4/3 Session 2

Tuesday 10th March 2020

We had our second STORYPLAY session with the creative and energetic P4/3 class at St Martha’s on Tuesday, which was our first session with Mrs McAuley!

The class were buzzing with new animal creations in the Funky Chicken! Arran showed us his Crazy Turtle! Ciaran told us about the Nosey Dog who had a great sense of smell… Sniff Sniff Sniff and Feras delighted us all with his Silly Chicken Donkey which was a Funky Chicken first! Keep an eye out for all your Funky Chicken drawings in the next few weeks…

Ruby reminded us all about what our body parts are called in the Ickerickeroo! We have our Brain Boxer and our Eee-Peepers. What were the other body parts we learned on Tuesday? Can you remember?

We introduced the class to Witches Fingers, and this was very popular! We met Witch Desire who had a very scary witchy cackle and we also met Witch Mrs McAuley who was very popular with the class! Our game of Witches Fingers opened up our creative imaginations and we all dressed up in our best Witchy costumes!

Witch Ruby then welcome us all to the 2020 Witch Convention!

Witch Ciaran jumped into a cauldron and his potion allowed him to travel all over the world! Witch Mohammad showed off his teleportation skills and Witch Myia flew over the sea from New York! Witch Jamie renamed himself ‘Witch Darkness’ which terrified us all! He assured us he was a good witch though! Witch Eric travelled to the convention from deep deep deep below in the Earth’s Core and Witch Alexi came from London and lived in a cottage with her Witchy Mum!

We absolutely loved our Witch Convention and we can’t wait to see more of our Witch creations next time!

Remember, all we need to play is each other. Our imaginations have no limits!

That’s me dressed up as a Witch! I’m making a potion there and those different colours are what’s coming out of my cauldron. My potion means I can fly and fly away from the evil witch!

My favourite game today was the Witches Game because it’s fun when we’re all waiting for the word Poison!

Olly

Today I drew Feras with his yellow witches dress! These are two potions, and together they make you disappear! My witch is wearing a yellow dress with a yellow hat and my Witch is from New York!

Declan

I drew me wearing a cave suit and a hat! That’s Jack crawling around on the floor as well! I really enjoyed the witches game because I loved the running around part, that was really fun!

Kaleb

My favourite part of today was when I was the Witch in Witches Fingers! I also really love singing the Grandma Grandma song as well! That’s one of my favourite bits!

St Martha’s P2 Session 2

Tuesday 3rd March 2020

We had a fantastic second session with P2 at St Martha’s today!

After our fantastic warm up we met the Funky Chicken and Eldana introduced us to the Angry Cat, with Kristian we met the Roaring Dragon, Shapina introduced us to the Happy Unicorn and Brayden showed us all the Rainbow Zebra.

We went flying in our balloons and then we learnt some new names for parts of our body the Brain Boxer, Lug Listeners, Chest Wheezer and Knee knockers – can you remember any more?

Then we all dressed up as Pirates and met Captain Motaz, Captain Maisie, Captain Miss Gregory and Captain Kara who made sure we scrubbed the deck, and climbed the rigging!

Finally we finished with an adventure in the magic ball…

We headed off to Spain but it was so hot we needed sunscreen, and sun hats and sun glasses. Dora led us to the shade of a great big tent made of leaves. We ate pizza, and ice-cream then had orange and blackcurrant juice. Then we felt cool enough to explore again, we found some lovely sand – it was an Oasis! We laid down and listened to the sound of water and to the animals all around us. Daisy heard a snake slithering through the sand and then we all heard a big bird cawing at us to follow him all the way back to the Magic Ball and home to St Martha’s.

This is the belt when I was dressing up and this was the big material and that’s the big magic ball and that’s when we went to Spain and that’s the owl. This is my name tag and I dressed up as my school uniform and this is when we were floating up. I had a rainbow balloon. The Magic Ball was my favourite – I could go to Blackpool next time.

his is the shiny dragon and that is him sining he sings a song from Frozen number 2 it’s my favourite film. The yellow is the light that is around him and it can’t help against predators if something tried to eat him like the roaring bear. I saw the dragon – he follows me everywhere I go. He protects me. That’s kind of weird because dragons eat people. My favourite was all of them I would play them all again. I felt amazing playing those games.

That’s a balloon, that’s me playing the games. I had lots of fun. That’s a loveheart because I loved them. Dressing up was the most fun. I liked playing with my friends.

Kara

That’s when I saw the pirate ship there was no-one in there the sharks were going up there to eat them. I saw it when I was holding my balloon, it was a gold one and a bird is going to pop it. That was my favourite. I could go to London. That’s where my dad is. I felt happy playing these games.

Karam

It’s the Magic Ball, that’s me in the magic ball, going to America. That’s the Letter to my Love and that’s the unicorn. I saw it when I was in the magic ball. This is me I was happy playing the game. My favourite game was all of them.

Mila

That’s the magic ball, that’s everyone in the class. We’re going to the desert. We might see a llama. That was my favourite game because it goes to everywhere. I had fun.

St Martha’s P1 Session 2

Tuesday 3rd March 2020

We had a wonderful second session of STORYPLAY with Primary 1 where we went to Jamaica in the Magic Ball, Sent a Letter to our loves and learned some unusual new names for the body!

In Ickerickeroo we learned some Scots inspired names of the body – our Brain Boxer, Knee Knockers, Bread Basket and more!

We met the Shy dragon unicorn, Silly Dog, Gentle Horse, Funny Dragon & Scared Lion!

We met some Pirate captains who go us to run to Port! Starboard! Climb the Rigging and Drink our Grog!

Went to outer space again in the Magic Ball! The children passed out space hats & boots. We climbed up a tunnel in a cave to a dragon’s
lair. Some people didn’t want to so hung back with Ruby. Ella became princess and invited everyone to her pink tower castle for a drink of juice! She asked her pet dragon if it would give us a ride. Lots of the children became the dragon and others lots from the dragons back, including an elephant playing under a waterfall, and another, bad dragon!

“That was wonderful, so insightful. It was lovely to see the different ideas and the engagement as well. I thought you were really good at always using their ideas in class and in the session as well.” Teacher

The magic ball. I have a clown, a rainbow and a cat. I have grass and a happy rabbit. In the magic ball I am going on an adventure to rabbit land.

Millie

I am with Finn in the magic ball. We are on the Dragon. Dragon is breathing fire to kill the naughty rats. Dragon eats them. There is a button to turn the magic ball on. There are different schools and people playing. Ther is stinky dragon poo. My favourite thing was everything that we did. My new animal would be a naughty house who would eat people. Eats the whole world!

Ethan

A balloon. Naughty eagle is trying to pop it. People are watching to see if I will fall. I am not in school. I am flying my balloon. Boy is jumping to try to see me because I am so high. Below I could see the earth. I was flying to the moon. Earth is tiny. The cheeky monkey was my favourite game.

Noah

A dragon who is flying and sleeping. He doesn’t fly when he sleeps. I drew the magic ball. We went to see the animals. The fox was a greedy fox who ate food fro the first. From the trees he ate apples. My favourite game was I sent a letter.

Alleena

Ella and me going to school with love hearts. We are playing with a jigsaw puzzle. We are having a great time. My baby sister is there.

Hannah

A unicorn with magic powers. Unicorn will turn us into tiny mouse. I did a wonderful piece of art. My favourite was the magic ball journey. I also enjoyed dressing up. I wanted to go to the beach. Maybe next time I will go on an adventure. I’d like to take a day off.

Eva Jane

Me and Lewis on the black side in space. We are peeking in the cave. We saw an alien. It was pink. He was a lovely alien who gave me strawberry milk and strawberry and vanilla ice cream. Delicious. (He hands one out to everyone in the class that the pink alien gave to him.) The secret ingredients are jelly and sloshy cream. Someone tries to kill the dragon. My blaster protects it. I found it on the moon. There is my ball with my friends inside it. We are going to meet dinosaurs in Jurassic park. I’d like to invite my dad to meet my favourite dinosaur. I’d like to invite all of my best friends.

St Martha’s P4/3 Session 1

Tuesday 3rd March 2020

Today we had our first STORYPLAY session with an excitable and wonderfully creative P4/3 class at St Martha’s! What a session Ruby and Jack had with the group!

We met some of the Funky Chicken’s newest friends. Desire introduced us to the Funky Giraffe and Myia said hello to the Funny Swan who had a great dance to go with it! I think there were lots of animals we could have thought of and we look forward to hearing more next week…

Our Flying Balloons took us high above Glasgow and the world where we saw Brian’s Dad painting all the walls in his house! We saw the Statue of Liberty and Kalieb managed to see a football stadium at exactly the right time for someone to score a goaaaaalllllllll! Yes!

We met GrandmaGrandma sick in bed, and then we met a few other Grandma’s who told us all about where they live. Grandma Alexis‘s Rainbow castle and Grandma Ciaran’s homegrown tomatoes in his beautiful garden down by the forest! I think we saw some of the most creative trees we’ve ever seen…

Our Magic Ball took us around the world, and we landed in Jamaica…

The heat and the sun were too much for us to handle and we searched far and wide for some shade to protect us from the beaming sun! Thankfully there was a lovely beach and we took a swim in the turquoise sea. Suddenly a Great White Shark appeared, and we all pretended to be seaweed as the shark passed us by! As the shark left, Captain Jack Sparrow shouted at us from the beach! We pleaded with him and his three assistant and his dog to climb aboard his ship, luckily, we were allowed,but under one condition, we scrubbed his deck! Their deck was shiny by the time we were finished! Unfortunately Ruby and Hamzan were sent to ‘swim with the fishes’ as they walked the plank! 1.2.3. splash! Luckily Hamzan found a jet and powered back to shore. The rest of the crew took a swim and we managed to get back to the magic ball!

What a brilliant afternoon we had together, and we can’t wait for next session together!

Remember, all we need to play is each other. Our imaginations have no limits!

That’s the magic ball, it’s a yellow. (Where else would you go?) I would go to Syria because I’ve got family there, but we had to leave. It made me feel warmed up playing these games.

The funny swan, that’s my second favourite and that’s me as a Christmas tree at that was my favourite and that’s me dressed up and I’m being a tree, it was fun today!

That’s grannies’ mansion and she’s got a safe filled with gold!

A dinosaur’s portal! You could go anywhere in my country! That’s a ship and that’s me and Farhad. That’s a huge man and that’s the trees, and they’re the monster’s tree – the monster trees were my favourite! It made me feel good!

Mohamed

That’s me with some ice cream! R: was that when we were on the beach! And that’s an orange big giraffe and that’s a dog! It made me feel fun today

I’m flying in my balloon wearing a black costume! I’m saying ahhhh! Because I’m flying in the
sky! That’s the game down below! That’s the monster tree!
