Big Porridge & Play Blog 22nd May 2020 Govan - Tuesday 19th May 2020 Hiya everyone! What fun we had yesterday, right? Jack, Iona, Ruby & myself were so excited to welcome all our new families from Govan. And it was so great to have so many of yous joining our play session! It was a fun to work out everyone's names and trying to organise that on the funny Zoom boxes! But we managed and we got ready to have a good warm up to wake up our bodies and our minds! We played Funky Chicken and some fabulous animals made an appearance: the Big Fluffy Tiger, the Flying Butterfly, the Funny Kangaroo... And because when we play with your imagination you can be anyone, go anywhere and do ANYTHING, we had a game of MUCKY BREW and we threw all sorts of things all over us: honey, feathers, runny chocolate, a giant egg, water, slime...even bits of a broken TV! But it was fine cause we had a wash while we sang our Washing Song. We flew over Glasgow on our Flying Balloons and we saw a silvery snake that turn out to be the River Clyde! Govan, Milton, Easterhouse Online Sessions

Community sessions have started online! 21st May 2020 We may all be at home, but in our imaginations we can go anywhere, be anyone, do anything. All we need to play is each other! Families in Govan, Milton and Easterhouse are invited to community specific sessions of Porridge & Play Online! Families also receive sets of Lickety Playcards, a fantastic repertoire of 16 colourfully illustrated cards to support ongoing play at home. Join the dedicated Facebook group for your community too :) And invite your friends, or family - wherever they are! Licketyspit Press Release 28/04/2020 We may all be at home, but in our imaginations we can go anywhere, be anyone, do anything. All we need to play is each other! Scotland’s pioneering intergenerational imaginary play specialists Licketyspit have received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to adapt their popular family project Big Porridge & Play Glasgow to tackle social isolation and support families during the Coronavirus lockdown. The charity will bring groups of families together via Zoom to play games, sing songs and go on imaginary adventures - all from their own living rooms! In trial sessions, families have made Flying Butterfly Cake, talked to Polar Bears, flown through a Tornado and climbed a Hot Chocolate Volcano with the Licketyspit Actor-Pedagogues! Big Porridge & Play has been created with and for children and supports families to tap into their imaginations for hours of joy, excitement, creative learning and connection. Families across Scotland will be able to join open sessions every Saturday morning at 10am from 30th May (Taster Session this Saturday 2nd May at 10am). There will be a dedicated Children & Families Network Facebook Group and lots of ideas for things to do at home in between sessions. Community Resources Molly Whuppie Audio-Show (From Licketyspit!) You can listen to the audio-show of Molly Whuppie with actors and live music on harp and fiddle here! We are releasing a new episode every night at 7pm from 7-18th April and they will be online till the end of the month! Virtual Tour of Frida Kahlo's House We may be stuck indoors but we can travel anywhere in our imaginations or on the internet! There are several museums and galleries you can visit virtually online. Frida Kahlo, an inspirational Mexican artist, had a wonderful, colourful house in Mexico City. It is now a museum you can visit, and even virtually! FREE Audio-Books from Audible From Harry Potter to Winnie the Pooh, there are lots of stories you can listen to online for wee ones, bigger ones and the whole family. Beatrix Potter, the Just So Stories like How the Camel got his Hump, Alice in Wonderland and Children's Greatest Poems are some of the other titles. Lickety Online Play Sessions!

We were very excited to try out our first Lickety Online Play Session last week! We used the platform Zoom to play with families all over Glasgow  - in their living rooms! It was great fun. We flew up and off round the world in our Balloons. We saw a volcano, a dinosaur planet, trees that looked like broccoli and so much more. We sang Grandma Grandma and wriggled down the line and had LOADS of Funky Chicken animals too like...The Wiggly Worm, the Beautiful Peacock and the Silly Fish! The Washing Song! Big Porridge & Play Ruchill Week 7

15th June 2019 The final session in Ruchill was the last Big Porridge and Play 2019 and we were really moved and delighted to have so many people join us to send the project off in style. We had to add and extra table to fit all 44 people - plus Virginia, Rita, Jack and Ruby round the table when it came to the meal, and it was lovely to share our games, songs and story with our guests. That included loads of your great Funky Chicken animals, like the Dancing Tiger, the Shy Butteryfly and the Slithering Snake. We also played a great game of Witches Fingers, with confident cackling witches of all ages sending us from quiet suspense into laughter and joyous running off. It was clear at the beginning that having guests and a videographer there made a difference, but any shyness was soon forgotten as we got swept up in the worlds of the games. Our Grannies in Monsters' Footsteps were all very keen to tell us about the castles and caves they lived in, even the youngest ones! And everyone was focused on the game together as the grimacing trees crept towards the Grannies and they admired their un-treelike expressions! After the meal, where we enjoyed trying Emma's Jollof rice and plantain, as well as tucking into Edie and Nikki's cakes, we had another go at On Off, which never fails [...]

Big Porridge & Play Gorbals Week 7

13th June 2019 Our last session at the St Francis Centre was a wonderful celebration of what Porridge & Play can be, with families bringing countless delicious things to share in the meal, guests dressing up with the same gusto as everyone else, and big, collective games together in the circle. We started with Big as a Bear, during which we could hear several people joining in with the whole thing word for word. Then we played Funky Chicken, with lots of people revisiting their favourite invented animals one last time, and everyone joining in the actions - like the Happy Lion, the Sneaky Fox and the Slithery Snake.   There was an incredible level of focus on what the funny witches would say when we played Witches Fingers,and it was fantastic to have our wonderful Lickety Volunteer Saliha becoming a brilliant first witch! We sang Grandma Grandma, which was particularly enjoyed by the visitors as it's such an inclusive, feel good song for joining in the first time. Much the same could be said for Letter to my Love, kicked off by Arush and Jack, which could have gone on for hours before anyone got bored. And we finished with our story, Anoo the Alien and Jack the Deer, with a dozen people reading a line or two each round the circle. The story is a real achievement that everyone should feel so proud of, and it was lovely to end the play session with this before we sat down to eat. What a treat we had [...]
