P&P26 MARYHILL – A Monstrous celebration!
These Monsters are weird..
These Monster are fun!
Are these monsters real?
They are all our pals!

What a brilliant last session we had at Maryhill Hub!
We danced, we Funky Chicken’d, we played Letter to My Love and of course we dressed up! This time as a fantasmagoric collection of Monsters – monsters of all kinds and sizes, with all sorts of favourite things to eat and do, with particular skills and even …secrets!
Scott became ZomDaddy – I eat coco pops’
Iris – ‘I’m a dragon, I can fly’
Violet was a Two-tailed Monster – ‘I live at home in the ground. I live on my own, I like living on my own. Sometimes Evie comes to visit.’
Evie – ‘I am an Artist Baker Monster. I like to play in the playground, I play Hopscotch’.
Shriyansh transformed into the Sky Monster – ‘I jump high and I live in the sky’
Ada was a Baby Monster who couldn’t speak yet!.
Rita – ‘I’m the Gruffalo’
Maya – ‘I’m a ghost, I am 95 years old.’
Zoe – ‘I’m a dragon. I’m a Fire Dragon. I cook with my fire and I cook meat, animals and also people’
Zac – ‘ I am the Blood Gollum and I eat bones! This pair of tights around my neck is lava running down my neck…That Fire Dragon catches people and eats them and then I eat the bones!’
We had transformed ourselves so convincingly that it was clear we should have a game of Monsters Footsteps!
In a dark forest or a garden far away
In a white cottage, a tree house or a cave
Grannies live alongside monsters
That pretend to be nice trees
But when the grannies are cooking
The monsters creep, creep, creep!
Grannie Sun lives in a normal size white cottage.
Granny Evie said – ‘I live in a tree house’
Grannie Sky said – ‘I live in the sky; I grow bones in my garden’
Let me tell you, the Maryhill Hub families are so precise while playing Monsters Footsteps that you could hardly notice the transformations…are they monsters? or trees??
And when the Magic Ball had been blown up big and were all inside ready to go Andre asked for ideas about where to?
A volcano!
The beach!
India! Thailand!
The top of a pyramid!
Inside someone’s head?
Shriyansh lead everyone in the Magic Ball chant and…
We landed in SPACE!
Floating and rolling and hopping about,
With oxygen masks that Shriyansh had brought,
Having a great time out in space,
Everyone floating with a happy face!
But Iris could see someone looking around,
Who didn’t come up with us from down on the ground!
If they live up here that means they must be…..
A Space Alien creature …and it’s talking to me!
‘Grrr whrrr booboo whoohoo hee’ – said the alien full of glee!
‘Hello alien’ – we replied and we hung out for a while…
It invited us to hold Alien babies!
Little cute alien babies!
And then she gave us a Space Ice-cream.
Who would have thought we could have such fun,
With an alien creature and all of our pals?!
Now it was time to descend back to Earth
But the Magic Ball had floated away!
Let’s all go back down in our own funky style
So we all descended with a big bright smile!
The Reflective Drawings this week were out of this world (spacey even!). So much detail and so many ideas! Some people even told us about wee stories that lived inside their drawings!
The food was lovely as always, plus we had treats! Fish balls and pizzettas, lemon rice, cakes and cookies! – very apt for a celebration of a phenomenal block of Porridge & Play sessions!
We would like to thank the Maryhill Families from this block for their ideas and laughter, their creations, kindness and friendship and for making Licketyspit’s Storyplay world even bigger and brighter!

‘This is the monster that we cannot see, the alien is there too, and this is the magic ball. The planet is Saturn and I also drew the Earth. The sun and the moon are there too. We can only fraction of the moon because some of it is hiding. I loved the monsters footsteps today.’
‘This is me when I was a monster, I found the magic ball, and I went to find a dragon. Monsters and dragons fight, my favourite was the magic ball. Next time we can go to the beach with the magic ball.’
‘The cake was good. I drew a garden with beautiful flowers, there is grass and flying birds, this is a sun. Today I enjoyed the cake most, well I had two. ‘
‘The tree the magic ball a flower and the tree house, when I was a grannie and lived in a tree house. I make crafts, paper crafts, I make paper crafts, and a pompon for the centre and then we stick the petals. Today the best thing was the food.’
‘This is when we were on the moon, and that is the alien holding the baby and the dragon looked a bit like me, with wings, that is a planet and the stars. I also wanted to draw the monsters, then the dragon that looked a bit like me and the iris, and the Gruffalo, and the gorgons, the dragon eats the gorgons. Today I enjoyed the tree moment.’
‘We were in space with Magic Ball, that’s me and Rita and Taz and Iris and Ada too…there are some stars and that’s the alien hiding there…Monsters footsteps was my favourite.’
‘The monsters that turn into trees and that side is where we turn into monsters. Everything was great but the food was the best.’
‘That one is me, that one is Taz, that one is my dad and that is Maya. Lots of questions mark on top of the picture – the monsters turning into trees were confused.’
‘This is when we were in space, that’s the alien and that was me, I asked the alien ‘How did you get into space in the first place?’ He had a normal voice and was a Human to start but he lost all of his skin when he went to space. It also lost the ability to talk, then t trick us it became a human again, but it was a trick. Magic ball was my favourite.’
‘This is the Magic Ball and that’s Mum and that’s me, we are going to space. Zac didn’t want to come this time; Zac was in the volcano…today I enjoyed Magic Ball’
‘This is a lollipop, the ones you eat. These are the trees, and space and then this is someone I don’t know. And here is Evie. Today I enjoyed the dancing, and I enjoyed being a monster.’
