Forest Storyplay with our Bridgeton Hub!

2025-07-11T14:14:31+00:00

Our cheery Bridgeton hub had a blooming good time at The Children’s Wood. They arrived nice and early and there were many smiles and hugs because we were all together again! Sarah taught us The Children’s Wood Rhyme and Andre helped us all to make ourselves as Big AS A Bear to warm up. We flew high above the Wood in our Flying Ballo0ns and then we met exquisite creatures with the Funky Chicken - crocodiles, sharks, a happy cat, a naughty elephant, even a Dancing Cricket! Dressing up was inspiring and inspired – our Bridgeton pals are particularly skilled at using old clothes to turn themselves into the most fabulous characters. They imagined the most colourful animals and creatures that lived in this Forest – a crocodile and a princess cat unicorn, a tiger, a flamingo, a flying squirrel, a giraffe, a chicken and a baby mouse! Did you know that in this forest only one animal has a watch? And when the forest creatures need to know the time there’s no other option but to ask, ‘What’s The Time Mr. Wolf’? We had Wolfie Rasha who lived in the same tunnel she found her watch in & Wolfie Maab who live in a tree and found her watch in the sky! Wolfie Emilia had a purple watch that matched her purple house! [...]

Forest Storyplay with Govan & Online Hubs!

2025-07-11T14:13:34+00:00

Welcome to the land of the Children’s Wood, it’ s a Wood that’s here for children and that’s understood! The sun was shining on the gorgeous Children’s Wood for the first Forest Storyplay of the season with our friends from Govan and Online Hubs. It is always so exciting to see the Licketyspit families again for the Summer programme of Storyplay and everyone was in great form to get it kick-started. Andre, Sarah, Taz and Virginia were all there joined by our fabulous volunteers Zainab and Taiwo. Did you know that Zainab and Taiwo have been playing with Licketyspit since 2019! It's fabulous that now that they are older, they still love Storyplay! Andrea from The Children’s Wood was also with us for Storyplay and to teach us forest-skills - like fire-making! It’s a place for us to PLAY and hide and seek and run. It's a place to have a picnic, it's a place to have fun!   Once we made our circle we learned The Children’s Wood Welcome Rhyme! The Children’s Wood it’s a green space in our city of Glasgow that is being looked after by the community. So of course we can play and have a lovely time there but also we can help to look after the Wood by being very careful with the trees, plants, bugs and beasties that live there and by not stepping over the [...]

FOREST STORYPLAY

2025-07-11T14:14:54+00:00

Forest Storyplay is a new collaboration with our friends from The Children's Wood! After last year's fantastic Picnic & Play sessions and Storyplay Festival 2024 at The Children's Wood we all wanted to go back there for more Licketyspit fun! The Children's Wood are very happy to have us back and so this Summer we will bring families from across all our Hubs to enjoy more fantastic Storyplay outdoors. Click on the logo to go to The Children's Wood website! At Forest Storyplay sessions this Summer we'll have our Licketyspit games, a nice wee picnic and we'll also get to learn a bit more about how to enjoy and look after The Children's Wood! Did you know that they grow food as well as beekeeping? And that they have a labyrinth? Did you know that not only they grow new flowers and plants but they also help the land recover by allowing different parts to grow wildly? And do you know about the fairies? And the giant? And the dragon?! I wonder how many characters and stories we can come up at the magical Children's Wood... We cannot wait to see you there very soon for FOREST STORYPLAY! 2024-10-04T16:46:46+00:00

Whiteinch Blog! Love letters, Chefs, a massive birthday cake & a feast! Our last session at Whiteinch Library felt like a great big party and although everyone was a bit sad that it was the last one of this year we all cheered up very quickly with a Dancing Warm up. We decided to send Letters to our Loves! But we kept dropping them! and then we had to try and guess WHO had picked the letter up and put it in their pocket?! It was hilarious! We dressed up today as Chef’s from around the World so that we could make a very special Birthday Cake for Taz’s neighbour Fred, who apparently is very very old… Thankfully we had a very colourful array of international Chef’s giving Taz a helping hand! There was Chef Amjad who makes fried chicken and ketchup and comes from Iran, Chef Deon who comes from France & America and makes Spiderman pizza and Spiderman hot dogs. Also, there was Chef Casey – he makes cake with meatballs and tomato sauce and Chef Nina who comes from the ground! - ‘I dug myself up with a spoon!’ There was Chef Grace who makes princess pizza and Chef Mohammad from Pakistan who makes chicken and ketchup. Govan Blog! Celebrating play & friends at Licketyspit’s Porridge & Play! It has been great to meet and play with friends old and new in Govan this year, we have had so much fun! We feel so lucky that you have all shared your incredible ideas with us! After a brilliant dance warm up we were feeling all lovely so…we decided to send Letters to our Loves! But we kept dropping them! and then we had to try and guess WHO had picked the letter up and put it in their pocket?! It was hilarious! Then we tipped out our magical mess of dressing-up and we all became CHEF’s! What would our Chef name be? What ingredients would we cook with? And what style of cuisine would be our favourite? We wondered……? And then we discovered… Shazia was Chef Carrotas who uses just carrots in ALL her recipes! Shamaila was Chef Patita who cooks pita bread with flour, salt, black pepper and mint! Haniya was Chef Pitu and she makes pizza with cheese. Firas was the very interesting Chef Hole, who lives in a Black Hole. He said it feels very crazy because every time he makes something good it becomes bad! His favourite creation is pizza with pineapple and smelly socks. Mmm Tasty! Safa was Chef Safa who lives in a castle with her Mum [...]

Porridge & Play Castlemilk Week 3

2024-09-20T10:40:07+00:00

Castlemilk Blog! Do you know why circles are great? Because when we are all in a circle, you can see everyone and everyone can see you and playing is best when we all do it TOGETHER! We had a great big circle yesterday at Castlemilk Library as there were many of us ready to Storyplay at Porridge & Play! We got our bodies, and our imaginations warmed up with ‘Hello My Name is Joe’, a fun rhyme that makes you move your body in ways you may not have done before! And as our cool librarians had selected some spooky themed books for us to take out this week we decided to have a game of Dressing Up that fitted the theme… so…we became WITCHES at a Witches Convention! A couple of journalist Witches were there reporting on the Witchy World so we got to find out many things like witches’ names, their means of transport and their favourite food from the Witchy Buffet at the Convention: Witchy Maria arrived on top of someone’s car and likes pizza! Whichy White Coat came on a broom and likes chocolate cake! Susanna was the Wicked Witch of The Milk and likes squashed frogs and came on a mop! Abu was Spider Witch, came on a rainbow flying carpet and likes frogs! Mystery Witch likes lizards! Witchy Fraser came [...]

Porridge & Play Govan Week 3

2024-09-20T10:11:48+00:00

Govan Blog! Witches, potions & a Magic Ball adventure!!! The sun was shining in Govan today and our lovely space for Porridge & Play was full of sun rays! Storyplay began with a warmup that is also a story full of action! Have you heard about Joe who works in a buttons factory? He has a wife and three kids, and his boss is very demanding… We all got involved with ‘Hello! My name is Joe’ and got warmed up and ready to imagine! We all needed to get ready to attend a very important event…a Witch Convention. So, we transformed into the most fabulous witches with our very own way of dressing up: using old clothes and turning them into all sorts of fantastic bits to create our own character! The Witch Convention was compered by Witchy Tail Hair and her assistant Witchy Such & Such and they went around meeting and greeting all the other witches and they even interviewed a few! Witchy Mohammad lives in the sky and is magic! Watch out. Witchy Like Mohammad lives where Mohammad lives and he tricks people with their shoes… he he he! Witchy Evangelina lives in the sky where it’s very fluffy and comfortable. She loves sunny side up eggs and makes cloud potions. Yum! Witchy Safa lives in a castle pink with slime. Her favourite [...]

Porridge & Play Whiteinch Week 3

2024-09-20T10:08:34+00:00

Whiteinch Blog! A Witchy Porridge & Storyplay afternoon at Whiteinch Library! Whiteinch Library felt very witchy today as the brilliant librarians had selected a bunch of books for us about magic, fanatic creatures, werewolves, vampires, monsters and of course witches! Before we kicked off our Storyplay, Andre told us about Fred, Grace, John and Bella Spears who are all characters in the brilliant song ‘Jelly On His Head’ and then for our warm up today we gave ‘Hello! My Name is Joe’ a go! We all felt how poor Joe must feel after a long day of work at the Button Factory! Since mystery and magic was in the air we all dressed up as Witches and attended a mad Witches Convention where a crew from Witchy TV was interviewing those in attendance. Amir became Oversized Witch and told the interviewer that his favourite potion is a powerful one but it’s recipe is a secret… Shhhh! Nico became Witchy Lila and explained that she lives in a giant castle with animals and witches. Her fave potion is the Sword Potion which makes you fall sleep for 1 night and when you wake up you turn into a melon. He he he! Sofia became Sassy Witch and her favourite potion turns people into a giant nose! Achoo! And Witchy Andre taught every other Witch how to make [...]
