Porridge & Play Castlemilk has started!

New Scots Integration Project

find out about the brilliant time we had launching Porridge & Play Castlemilk!

Porridge & Play Castlemilk launch!

‘I loved playing and meeting new friends!’ was what one of our Castlemilk children had to say about our launch on Tuesday 8th February.

Licketyspit got together with our local Storyplay Champions at  Castlemilk Parish Church to host the launch of Porridge & Play Castlemilk. It was so much fun to come together with from Castlemilk and around the world for our New Scots Integration Project. A part of Porridge & Play is coming together and eating together to build connections and get to know one another. Castlemilk Parish Church was such a wonderful space to do this in with their community based kitchen. It was perfect for us to make our homemade vegetable soup and to prepare lots of fun fruits so that we could have plenty of fuel for our play session!

After fuelling our bodies we got together in a circle. We LOVE circles at Licketyspit as circles mean that everyone can see you and you can see everyone. Circles mean everyone is part of the game and as we know games are best played when everyone is playing! In our circle we got to be a BIG as a BEAR and met lots of amazing Funky Chicken animals! On our Flying Balloons we got to explore Glasgow and all the wonderful sights the city has on offer just by finding a balloon in our sock! We then went to see Grandma and make sure she had her walking stick and  helped Joe out in the button factory!

‘Captain’s coming!’  cried Pirate Captain Ameerah who said it was her favourite game of the session! Our Storyplay Champions Fiire and Pemi were also great Pirate Captains and they made sure we climbed the rigging and ate all of our grog! They were great at welcoming all our new families to Licketyspit!

We really had a lot of fun in Castlemilk welcoming 11 families together with our wonderful Storyplay Champions Kirsty, Michelle, Nicola, Areeb, Sarim, Rohan, Pemi, Fiire and Ifeoluwa! What a brilliant way to kick off Porridge & Play Castlemilk which will be starting weekly in March!

We would like to thank Castlemilk Parish Church for having us and the Indigo Childcare Group who will be running the sessions with us throughout 2022!

 What’s Next?

We can’t wait to see you all when our first block starts on Wednesday 9th March!

If you came along to the launch or signed up online we will be in touch to confirm if we can give you a space. If you didn’t get a space in the first block there will be more sessions happening later this year so please let us know if you’d like to be on the waiting list.

Taster sessions at Castlemilk Community Church!

On 29th January we had a wonderful Porridge & Play Taster at Castlemilk Community Church with our fabulous Storyplay Champions Kirsty & Keira!

We played with 23 children and 8 Mums, with lots of familiar faces and a whole load of new ones too.

In Flying Balloons we saw a Sad Snake and discovered we needed to help it get back to the Zoo by saying ‘Abracadabra!’ Then we saw a Koala bear who Abdulmateen told us was hungry, so we all threw down some tasty snacks. Then we flew around to help it find its family down below in Glasgow.

We enjoyed waving down at Keira’s friends at school, seeing the motorway and the local park, until suddenly, we spotted a giant spider trying to eat the Church! It had turned into a cake. Luckily our imaginative friends were all set to bake another one so we could get back home.
