Block 3 Week 4 Porridge & Play Bridgeton Friday 26th August Hello and welcome to the Licketyspit Bridgeton Celebration blog! We had so much fun at the Calton Heritage & Learning Centre playing all kinds of games and rhymes, including 4 of our very *new games*. How fantastic! Everyone was so considerate of each other during all the games and it really felt like a family party with lots of sharing, lots of energy and lots of integration between families and guests! We were had Ross the filmmaker and Eoin the photographer for our big celebration, as well as Ammar the interpreter, and later this year you'll be able to watch the film about the project. Alan led the Funky Chicken brilliantly, thoughtfully and inclusively choosing people to go next. Lexi did the Funky Pig today for the first time ever. Leeanne said she does it all the time at home, but today was the first time she did with all of us! Kho Kho, shared by Tarika, Tanishk & Ridhi, was brilliant! We absolutely loved playing this game with all the families eagerly waiting for who had the paper hidden behind them, and cheering each other on. Celebrating Block 3 Thursday 25th August & Thursday 1st September Our last couple of weeks of Porridge & Play Cranhill were wonderful! We learnt so many new games and songs so it was really hard to choose what to share at the Storyplay Festival. Before we even started one session some of us were playing Chiri Udi Kan Uda together! We decided the first game we'd share at the Festival was going to be Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy Oh. Everyone got a chance to say Change your Style or Stay Like That, like Beauty had taught us and there was so much laughter as we tried to trick each other into moving when they weren’t supposed to. A fter that we brought back some of our amazing dance moves from the warm up for a game of Disco Tag! Genesis and Tiwani were so fast it wasn’t long before most of the room was dancing on the spot hoping that someone would come and dance with them to set them free!  Then Shiva chose to play Shaylin’s game Trees and again everyone was having so much fun creeping slowly and even if they got caught moving, it was just as much fun to try and catch someone else moving as it was [...]

Block 3 Week 6 of Porridge & Play Castlemilk Wednesday 24th August What a wonderful Celebration we had to mark the end of our New Scots Integration project in Castlemilk. It was so lovely to see so many of  our Castlemilk crew coming along to join the fun! We even had a special guest, Freya’s friend Lily. Michelle reprised her excellent leading of Big as a Bear and Nicola valiantly stepped in to save the day when the music wasn’t quite ready and got us all warmed up with a fabulously Funky Chicken. Everyone was raring to go as soon as they arrived with a fabulous Dance Warm-Up! In this session we went exploring to find out what kind of games everyone likes to play when they’re not at Licketyspit and we got so many games from all of you! It was amazing! Priscilla told us about Hopscotch, Genesis told us about Hide n Seek and we learnt so many different kinds of Tag... Block 3 Week 5 of Porridge & Play Castlemilk Wednesday 17th August It was so exciting to hear The Ice Cream Has All Gone again this week. This rhyme was created by everyone at Porridge & Play Castlemilk and this week we made up the actions. How divine! Hadir had remembered lots of the words and everyone helped with creating the actions to help us all remember it. We all had different animal actions for going to the zoo, we went on a train and Melissa gave us the Choo Choo move. Hadir had us floating after we’d all been rowing in the boat and then we started to sink!  Yahye had us jumping up and down for Bubblegum & Lime ice cream! Porridge & Play Govan is starting!!

Friday 26th August Drumroll please!! We are excited to announce that Porridge & Play is arriving in Govan for autumn 2022! Sessions will run on Tuesday afternoons at the Pearce Institute (4-6.15pm). We will have a 6-week block starting on Tuesday 11th October (4-6.15pm). How can I take part? Families can join our Children & Families Network to get further information and reminders nearer the start of the project. The launch session will be open to all. You will be able to sign up for the following sessions at the launch. If we are over subscribed, we will prioritise families with children between 3-8 years living in the local area. We can't wait to see lots of our old friends - and make some new ones! Free taster sessions! Schools, nurseries, community groups, youth work and family clubs can book a free taster session in September. Become a Storyplay Champion We are also looking for Storyplay Champion volunteers to support the sessions! Storyplay Champions are parents, carers, children's professionals and other volunteers who train in the Storyplay approach and support our team of specialised Actor-Pedagogue to deliver our Porridge & Play sessions. Isn’t it amazing how there are so many similar games across different continents?  Folashade came up first to teach us all how to play Tinko Tinko which is a clapping game you can play in pairs. Each player starts with one hand facing up and we move our other hand from the other person's hand back to your own, saying ‘Tinko, Tinko, Tinko’ and then clapping your hands together with your friends. We played a new game shared by Sayeda called the Circle Game! In this game you make a circle out of old clothes or scarves. Everyone but 1 person stands in the circle. You can’t leave the circle and you have to avoid getting tagged by the person outside the circle! The circle gets smaller and smaller the less people that are inside it until everyone is outside the circle!
