Porridge & Play Bridgeton has started!

New Scots Integration Project

find out about the brilliant time we had launching Porridge & Play in Bridgeton!!

Porridge & Play Bridgeton launch!

‘I liked all of the games!’ was what Storyplay Champion Adesayo said when asked about  her favourite part of our Porridge & Play Bridgeton Launch.

On Thursday 11th February we were at Church House to launch Porridge & Play Bridgeton! ‘When you arrive and you don’t know anyone but you see the table set out and you end up sitting and interacting with people you don’t know,’ was a highlight for our Storyplay Champion Nicola who  has been a huge help in making this project happen. Porridge & Play is all about coming together to eat and play! Being able to eat together opens up a chance for conversation and there were some great new connections happening between families at our Bridgeton Launch.

It was so wonderful to be able to play in the amazing outdoor space that Church House has to offer. It gave us so much space to  fly in our balloons and so much deck to scrub for Pirate Captain Marvellous! William doing the Funky Chicken was brilliant!  And Pirate Captain Alan told us a whole story about his pirate having a fight and putting him into space! ‘He’s fighting an evil pirate and that’s the pirate flying out of here going aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!’ What a wonderful story Alan made by exploring imaginary playworlds with the Licketyspit team. When the sun began to set we  came inside to do some reflective drawing. Drawing is a great way to get out all your thoughts and feelings  about the day and we had some amazing Artists at our Launch Gallery.

‘This is Pirate John, he is a nice Pirate. He eats fruit for breakfast. I enjoyed the pirate dressing up game.’ Was great feedback from the wonderful Artist William.

We really had a lot of fun welcoming 8 new  families to Porridge & Play Bridgeton!  And we couldn’t have done it without our Storyplay Champions Nicola, Victoria, Adesayo, Mariam and Marvellous! And thank you to Caitlin too, who joined Nicola from Church House to support the session.

Porridge & Play will be starting weekly in Bridgeton from March 11th and runs throughout 2022. We would like to thank our Funders and our partner Church House for hosting Porridge & Play Bridgeton!

 What’s Next?

Taster sessions at Church House!

“I loved it, it was brilliant. Of course i’m coming back next week,’ Moira told us after having a taster session of Porridge & Play at Church House with our Storyplay Champion Nicola!

Andre, Effie and Rhianne went to Church House on Friday 4th February to host a community taster of Porridge & Play with our amazing Storyplay Champion Nicola. It was so much fun to meet and play with the members of Church House and show them what Porridge & Play is all about!

We took adventures in our Flying Balloons and got to see some amazing sights! We also got to sneak up on Grandma in Monsters footsteps, the members of the Church House community were fantastic at being trees and surprising Grandma when we got to sneak up on her! We came back together in a circle after and sang Ickerickeroo using our chin wagglers to sing as loud as we could!

We also got to use our lug listeners at the end for our Licketyspit Art Gallery! Effie took us around the room and we got to seem some truly wonderful drawings from the session. It was great to see families from this taster at our Bridgeton Launch which happened on Friday 11th February.

Thank you to our Storyplay Champion Nicola and for Church House for such a fun session!
