Week 1 of Cranhill Porridge & Play!!

Thursday 10th March

Porridge and Play is back!!!

We had a fantastic first session at Cranhill Development Trust with all of the families who came to join us. It was an absolute delight to see the families playing together and getting stuck in to having fun.
After we warmed up and met loads of Funky Animals we went flying in our Balloons and that’s when things really got interesting!

As we were floating up in the sky we looked down and Heather saw a dinosaur and a lion hanging out together. When we looked a little closer Ryan saw some other animals heading towards them and we realised they were having a birthday party! We decided we better land our Flying Balloons and take a look but we couldn’t turn up to a party empty handed so we worked together to bake a cake.

‘Let’s Bake a cake, let’s bake a cake. Think of all the things that we like best. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, what shall we put in first?’

This cake was spectacular! It had everything you could every dream of – Fatima added some Unicorn chocolate, Aga added some strawberries! We also had love hearts, melted chocolate, jam, lemons, flour, eggs and of course, smelly socks. We baked it in the oven decorated it with our favourite songs, lit a candle and sang happy birthday. It was the best cake I have ever eaten – I can’t wait to see wha else we create over the coming weeks!

Some of our favourite moments at the Porridge & Play Cranhill?

I drew flying up in the balloon and I drew a pheridactal and I made a mistake on his name *giggles* and I drew a fire breathing dragon with a streak in his hair. And I drew heart six because my age is six and I heart all of you. My favourite part was the grandma!’

Heather

So I drew the seven layer rainbow cake! I putted in love hearts. This is everything in the cake from the chocolate unicorn, the melted chocolate, the lemon and the unicorn sprinkles. It was my favourite part because it is fun adding all the things.’

Mahek

A present! Colours!.’

Mariama

This is the rocket! It’s going to space and going on the moon. Joe and you! Animal game. Felt happy.’

Hannah

‘I drawed a rainbow cake. I put in unicorn chocolate. That’s me with a smiley face. Baking cake was favourite part of today.’

Fatima

I drawed a rainbow cake and these are the stuff I mixed with it; a big chocolate unicorn, sprinkles and lemon. This is a candle and it was my favourite part of today.’

Ibrahim

I liked grandma and I did like the balloon and the cake. That’s her sick in bed and then she goes to the hospital and she’s saying she’s not sick so she asks for a walking stick! I feel really really good.’

The Launch of our Storyplay for the Planet Zine!

We are so excited to announce the launch of our Storyplay for the Planet Zine which was created with stories and adventures from children and families in East Centre Ward as part of our Glasgow Life Residency!

A Zine is a type of book that is created with pictures, drawings and words to create stories!

On Saturday 12th March we all came together to celebrate the launch of our Zine! It was so much fun to see so many wonderful children and their families and get to read and play! If you would like to read the Zine then visit our Storyplay for the Planet page!

Storyplay for the Planet’ is a Licketyspit project for Glasgow Life as part of the Creative Communities Artist in Residency programme, for the East Centre Ward (Cranhill, Riddrie, Carntyne, Springboig & Barlanark), funded by Glasgow City Council and delivered by Glasgow Life..

Between October 2021-March 2022, Licketyspit ran 13 Storyplay for the Planet sessions (6 in schools/nurseries, 4 online, 1 in Cranhill Park and 2 in Barlanark Community Centre).

These were Storyplay and Have Your Say Through Play sessions, where we use the Storyplay games to frame creative discussions and improvisations around issues that matter to children. This is a children’s rights-based approach which is inclusive of all ages and needs.

We worked with 117 participants throughout this project and have been blown away by all their amazing, wonderful and creative ideas!

A huge thank you to each and every one of our participants. It’s been truly wonderful seeing and hearing all your ideas.
