Picnic & Play: CULTURE in GLASGOW

Discovering what’s free to do with your family in your city!

We are very lucky to have fantastic museums and cultural venues in our city and many of them are free!

Picnic & Play is all about taking Storyplay out in the world – we sometimes go to beaches, other times to lochs or parks but we also love to go to museums!

Picnic & Play in Glasgow is all about families taking local public transport to travel to enjoy Storyplay and a delicious picnic with Licketyspit at one of our wonderful Glasgow Museums – we have been to Kelvingrove Galleries, Gallery of Modern Art, the Tall Ship and this Easter we are having brilliant Storyplay at the Riverside Museum – the museum of Transport!

Since Picnic & Play is all about exploring other places through Storyplay we thought that makes us STORYPLAY Explorers! And so our intrepid families imagined themselves beautifully with the help of Dressing up and turned themselves into a very vibrant bunch ready to discover all sorts of things using our Magic Ball…

Magic Ball, Magic Ball

Takes us where we want to go!

Whooooooosh!

Together they make – a Storyplay Explorer Team Extraordinareee!!!

We landed on a beach but we were washed away

It was a bit too much to resist such a great wave!

We found a big ship but somehow, we were bigger

How will we all fit in?!!!

Just blow up this balloon, blow it up and you will shrink!

Anusha’s fab idea was a brilliant tip!

Cause we all blew a balloon and we all became small!

So tiny happy us enjoyed a cool ship trip

Until a massive Giant appeared on the scene!.

He said – Have you ever travelled by means of giant palm?

We said, ‘We haven’t, no!’ – as we climbed onto his hand!

But how can we go back to our normal size?

‘There is an old machine that can help you all with that’

We fought a fierce fire and rescued trembling Ruby,

We went by train with Amjad and that was also groovy!

And then we flew up high on a hot air balloon

And we looked down from the sky

And felt as high as the moon!

We looked at all the countries, the countries of our pals-

Spain, Poland, Scotland

Nigeria, Pakistan,

Iran, Iraq and England

We saw them like a map!

And so away we flew after exploring lots

To have a lovely Picnic and to draw all of our thoughts!

‘I did flowers and a heart and then I drew a purple cloud and me. Out here is my house. It’s a special garden – I just thought of it’

Abisha

‘This one is a cute Butterly and here’s a Purple heart and here’s my tree and the sun and a flower. I just think about it. Feel happy and the rainbow makes me feel lovely’

Aila

‘So that’s the blue greenish car that’s near the exit but somehow after 25 mins I forgot how it looks so I just drew something. That’s the ship we went on. That’s the magic ball and that’s when we were crossing the road.’

Franky

‘So basically this is the ship that when we were tiny we went into. This is the magic ball. I don’t think I barely saw this but like I think it was one of the first bikes, bikes used to look like this. This is the train we were on. This is the beach. And this is when we turned giant!’

Zofia

‘I drew a rainbow and I drew a butterfly then I drawed a tree. I was going to do a face then I changed my mind and did like that – a cloud. Saw a cloud like a mouse!’

Anusha

‘A house, my house. Tree. A balloon’

Milad with Amjad

‘RED!’

Ammar

‘Pool, train tracks, rainbow, a butterfly, rain. In my imagination.’

Samuel

‘So in the summer we’re gonna go to the beach we went the last summer and there’s gonna be 2 adults in both of the groups and group number 1 is gonna to be in the park – remember the beach we went last year where there is the park. A group will go there and do some games and group number 2 is gonna be at the beach. They’re either gonna make a sand castle and line up behind it and wait till a wave knocks it open and the people who don’t want to do that can get seashells 3 times and make a game of it. And we’ll have to build another castle because this is the castle falling over in the wave and we can make another one and some people might go in the water and play the wave game and the wave might hit them! And the people are gonna get soaked. And see the groups are gonna swap groups and they’re gonna write a list of the names of the people who’re gonna be in the groups and when they’re gonna change groups and we can also splash in the water and test out the castle.’

Yasna

‘So this is the beach and this is the sand and this is the trees and this is me and that’s Anusha and we’re flying a kite. That’s the airplane and some birds – maybe the airplane is going to Pakistan, the birds maybe going to their nests. I would like to visit this beach.’
