25th February 2020 Miltonbank’s Storyplay Residency started with LicketyLeap for Primary Two. 19 children in two groups leaped into the story with Margaret & Margaret! We journeyed through the BOG over the SEA into the CAVE and up the MOUNTAIN to find our HEART’S DESIRES! It was an amazing adventure! At the end Margaret & Margaret flew away in their balloon and a bundle of postcards fell down from the sky – they were for us - thanking us all for going with them to the top of the mountain & being such brave explorers! The journey took us 90 minutes so there is a lot to tell! We’re hoping parents & carers can come to school this week to see a film of the journey – under the sea, catching fish in Fishy ladies boat & cooking them! Jumping ashore to find fruit trees, rock pool and animals in a hole in the ground! We scrambled up to the cave, we saw the bear and we flew on a giant bird before jumping across a great chasm to the summit and zooming back down. Now we feel we can do anything! St Martha’s P3/2 Session 1

Tuesday 25th February 2020 We had a fantastic first session of STORYPLAY with Primary 3/2 at St Martha's Primary this week! We introduced our playcard games to a very enthusiastic class! Lots of the children made up their own Funky Chicken animals including and Angry Sheep, a Snapping Dog and a Happy Cow. When we flew high in our balloons we flew so far we could see volcanoes, tigers, monkeys and even some gorillas searching for their food. We all loved getting dressed up and posing for some fantastic photos and then we visited Granny in the forest and Granny Shay told us all about the cheese he grew in his garden outside his big blue castle. Finally in the Magic Ball… We arrived somewhere very hot. It was Africa!! We had to use some fans to cool ourselves down and then we went exploring, we saw tigers, and pythons and then we saw.. a kangaroo! We wondered what the Kangaroo was going all the way in Africa so we followed him, bouncing around until we found a green hill to rest on. We tried to nap but the sun was still so bright so we got up and found a tunnel leading into a cave. Tuesday 25th February 2020 What an exciting day we had at St Martha’s STORYPLAY on Tuesday! We met the P2’s for the very first time and introduced a brilliant and creative class to our Playcard Play sessions! We made ourselves as Big as a Bear and as Fast as a Hare! Can you remember any of the animals we pretended to be?! We got to know the Funky Chicken and Dayle told us about the Stomping Dinosaur! Sumia introduced us to the Angry Cheetah and Motaz welcomed the Scary Tiger! We had a great time meeting Blaine’s Laughing Rhino too! We took a trip high in the sky in Flying Balloons and we saw some amazing things down below. Karam luckily warned us about the Rocket launch and we safely watched it from our balloons! Phew! Kristian saw his Dad, Brother and Grandma in Trinidad and Tobago and we all waved at them from our Balloons! Aleen’s balloon took her high above Syria and Brayden showed us the giant stomping through the river trying to catch the Pirate Ship sailing on the seven seas! The class cackled liked a witch! Mwhahahahaaaa! And they ran away when our Witches drank a bottle of… POISON! Ruby told the class all about her Grandma and we learned a new song and some new dance moves! Tuesday 25th February 2020 We had a fantastic first session of STORYPLAY with Primary 1 at St Martha's Primary this week! Primary One and Mrs Reid all threw themselves into the start of the Storyplay residency on Tuesday! We were all as BIG as a BEAR and as FAST as a HARE! We did the Flying Allacorn, the Scary Lion, the Silly Crocodile, the Angry Bee & the Funky Chicken! We all flew high over Glasgow and the world in our multi-coloured Flying Balloons – before the Naughty Seagull popped them! We saw dragons flying past the moon! We dressed ourselves up in fabulous costumes! Mrs Reid and children were Witches and we met some marvellous grannies living in castles in the forest keeping an eye out for the Monster trees! (Granny Hannah showed us her home-made pickled onions!). We travelled to Jupiter in the Magic Ball, put on our flying capes and met an alien in a cave where we ate mushrooms and ice-cream! We helped another alien fix her spaceship. We had a picnic and we jumped into a crater and fell down into the sea to swim! It just shows that in our imaginations we can be anyone, go anywhere and do anything and that all we need to play like this is each other! We had a fantastic Lickety Art Gallery! [...]

Oakwood P4 Storyplay Session 4

Session 4 24th February 2020 We had another wonderful day on Monday with Primary 4! We started with the warm-up to get our minds and bodies working and created lots of our own rhymes and similes with actions. The whole class then had ten minutes to go and write down pairs of rhyming similes. Session 3 19th February 2020 We had another great day with Oakwood’s P4s! We started with Storyplay games and our ‘Big as a Bear’ warm-up grew into a new group poem of similes and actions like 'Make yourself  as... ‘Smiley as a person!’  ‘as Spikey as a hedgehog!’, 'as Rolly as a ball!’, and ‘as Slow as a Sloth!’ We flew off in our Magic Balloons again high over Scotland and the world …seeing stories unfolding far below us! Then we sat and told each other the story of the Molly Whuppie LicketyTale we saw on Monday. Everyone had fantastic recall of the story in great detail. Ten of us dressed up as the King! And twenty of us dressed up as the Giant! We had great fun exploring our castles and our gardens! The Kings paraded to join the Giants and we met all the characters. The Giants interviewed the Kings & then sang gardening songs and did a bit of gardening. Oakwood P4 Storyplay Sessions 1 & 2

17th February 2020 This Spring at Oakwood we are working with Primary 4 on a Storyplay literacy residency. All of the children's written & artwork can be looked at on our Facebook page - a selection of pics are below. Session 1 In our first session on Monday, we played a selection of Lickety Playcard games and did reflective drawing and writing. Everyone came up with a Funky Chicken animal, and wrote down this as well as what they had seen from their Flying Balloons. We had a very wholehearted game of Monsters Footsteps with Summer & Darryn as enthusiastic Granny's! In the Magic Ball... we landed on a cold Star. We saw a mountain - someone thought it might be Everest! We handed out boots & hiking sticks, being quiet in case we surprised anything! We all hiked bravely up the mountain, jumping over a crevice, someone saw a polar bear, someone else saw a giant diamond! We encountered two aliens - everyone shook hands with the first and fed biscuits to the second. Someone else gave it Goo. We found the alien’s broken spaceship and everyone got involved in mending it - finding wood, screw-drivers etc. Then we jumped into a crater & fell down into the sea, where we saw lots of sea creatures. 18th February 2020 We are very excited to be starting STORYPLAY at Miltonbank Primary later this month and St Martha's Primary at the start of March! Virginia has already met the teachers and delivered Storyplay CPD. We'll be doing LicketyLeap and Porridge & Play with families at Miltonbank and Playcard Play at both schools, with Celebration Assemblies planned for the last week of March. Picnic & Play at the CCH

9th Feb 2020 We had a very friendly, relaxed Picnic & Play at the CCH with 42 people (14 families) on Sunday, to mark #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek. Newcomers to Lickety Play took to the session brilliantly and everyone was very supportive and warm towards one another. It was also great to see some families from St Mary's Storyplay, and from our sessions with the Scottish Refugee Council. Highlights included the focused concentration of Witches Fingers, the confident animals from across the room in Funky Chicken, and of course, the wonderful Dressing Up! Scenes from Flying Balloons appeared in many of the Reflective Drawings - including sharks, Saturn, elephants and Darshan's Dad's Red Castle! Thank you all for joining us for our first Picnic & Play of 2020, where we we saw the innate kindness, generosity and creativity of our communities in action, with everyone participating and lots of smiles. Children's Feedback Everyone was taking part and we all had a lot of fun. Today was so much fun. I will definitely come again! (10 year-old) Shidvik - that's an elephant with me and my sis on top. CFN Trips to Celtic Connections 2020

CFN Trip to Danny Kyle Stage, Celtic Connections 20th January 2020 We've had a couple of great CFN Trips to Celtic Connections this week!   On Monday, 38 of us went to the Danny Kyle Open Stage at the The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. We saw some great bands like the Flying Penguins and singers like Lisa Kowalski. We heard fiddle, whistle, guitar, and clarsach! There even a song in Spanish which was greatly enjoyed by our CFN Salvadoran families! Thanks to the Scottish Refugee Council for their support with travel costs.  CFN Trip to Music is our Language at Maryhill Integration Network 22nd January 2020 On Wednesday, we went to the Maryhill Integration Network 'Music is our Language' gig - also part of Celtic Connections. 3 families came along with Ruby, but we also bumped into 4 more families in the CFN who live in Maryhill! We saw the wonderful, multi-cultural Joyous Choir, who performed songs in several languages, an Iranian band and Ayawara drummers! There was facepainting and delicious food. It was a busy, buzzing event. We're so glad to be part of #cultureforeveryone!
