Forest Storyplay with our Whiteinch Hub!
The Children's Wood - Glasgow
A very rainy day doesn’t stop FOREST STORYPLAY because our Whiteinch Hub pals are a very happy bunch!

The rain came after all these hot days we’ve had in Glasgow and it is a good thing really because the trees and plants get very thirsty in the hot sun. Forest Storyplay at The Children’s Wood truly is a Storyplay session for all weathers and our brilliant Whiteinch Hub families had put on their waterproofs and their imaginations ready for their turn!
One of the best things about Licketyspit’s Summer trips is when we get to see each other after a good while and everyone is so delighted! There were hugs and smiles all around.
The tarpaulins – which are big cloths that we tie to tree brunches to create cover from the rain – were up between the tree-tops so we had a couple of dry areas to play and have lunch under but of course the rest of The Children’s Wood was fully available to run around, get muddy and find all sorts of interesting bugs – ask bug expert Milad!
Funky Chicken brought us Semra as ‘The Crazy Bee’, Milad as ‘The Scary Mouse’, Shalah as ‘The Scary Chicken’ and Nedaa as ‘The Slithering Snake’ to name but a few!
Flying Balloons was the perfect game to create a fabulous flying adventure together –
As we flew above Glasgow with our Flying Balloons Sara saw a White Unicorn, and then another and another…it was a unicorn race! Mohammed realised that the unicorns were meeting people who were feeding them. Then we spotted people cooking pizza and we could smell it too mmmm! but what was on it? – Pepperoni! – said Amjad – It’s a candy pizza! – said Zehra – Pineapple! – said Muhammed.
We decided we needed to fly down and have a good sniff and maybe even try a slice! Mmmmmm!
‘Mine tastes like chicken?’ – said Shahla; ‘Mine tastes like corn!’ – said Sara!
As we flew back up into the sky Taz spotted The Children’s Wood and Mohammed shouted – ‘ I can see a Dragon! I like dragons! Dragons have fire breath!’
It was easy to think of Forest Creatures to dress-up as in The Children’s Wood and everyone was excited-
Sara was a Freezing Bear
Mohammed was a Friendly Dragon
Mehwish was a Horse
Zehra was a Crazy Bunny
Amjad was a Scary Fox
The trouble was none of the Forest Creatures had a watch to tell the time. The only way they could find out the time was to ask the one Forest Creature who did have a watch – Mr WOLF!!!! and of course they had to be ready to run away in case it turned out to be DINNER TIME!
Oh the Wolfies we met in the Forest! They had mazing Watches they had found in lots of unexpected places!
Wolfie Sara had a black watch she had found under the ground…where she lived! Wolfie Amjad got his black watch in an Apple Store – where you cannot buy apples. Wolfie Mohammed had a dark blue watch that he’d bought in a Mall that was 500m away! Wolfie Zehra lived inside a giant tree, her watch was all the pastel colours, and she had found it in a nest! Wolfie Yara had a beautiful red watch she had got from the house!
None of the Forest Creatures got eaten by the wolf -hooray! – we just joined Mr Wolf doing lots of other things and when it was DINNER TIME we RAN AWAY!!!!
After our lovely Picnic nice and dry under our roof under the trees (listening to the rain!) we had a wee play in the Treehouse doing some climbing and exploring how to get up and down the rope ladder safely and cleverly!
The pitter patter of the rain falling on the tarpaulins proved to be an inspiring sound as everyone enjoyed Reflective Drawing and created fantastic pictures about a rainy but fun time with nice friends at Forest Storyplay!
