Block 3 Week 1 Porridge & Play Bridgeton

Tuesday 19th July

‘It’s great to be us because we are all different!’ – William, 10

Porridge & Play Bridgeton is back a ready to create our AllScot Playcards!!

We were back at Church House after our exciting Picnic & Play adventures!!  It was the hottest day of the year and everyone was so lively and pleased to see each other.

We just so happened to have a balloon in our socks! Perfect for a warm day like this one. We blew our balloons UP and UP and UP! And soon we were UP SO HIGH!!

Our Flying Balloons took us to special places this time, they took us to your homes! We got to see Sarah’s childhood home on the farm and we got to stroke the horses. Zahra was very chatty and talked about cooking and baking in her home. We really felt like we got to get closer to everyone. Moira told us all about how she grew up in a flat with 10 children! It was so great to learn about how different our childhoods were but also how play links it all together giving us common ground! There were lots of moments of reflection and explorations of childhood and home life which the children took part in too! Ouff told us how he likes Nutella on toast for breakfast and Alan told us how he likes to play football and Duck Duck Goose!

Then Alan and William led Grandma Grandma, helping everyone to sing along and feel included in the game. As we know – games are best played when everyone is included in the game.

We loved spending time learning more about everyone’s families. Zahra is from Sudan and Likes to wear Sudanese traditional dress. She likes to celebrate Eid, chat and dance with friends. Zahra even sang us a song from her childhood! Afara is from Sudan too and has 5 brothers & 2 sisters! She likes to eat beans, play music and go dancing! She told us how the whole village dances together, just like Adie told us for our Picnic & Play with him! Leeanne is the oldest of 5 children and was born in Castlemilk in high flats! Just like some of our friends at Porridge & Play Castlemilk. Leeanne loves lots of family time ‘I like to read and love being with family because we like doing things together as a family.’

William was spot on when he said ‘it’s great to be us because we are all different!’ Differences make us who we are, at Licketyspit we celebrate the differences we have as well as what brings us together. We loved learning all about you this week and we can’t wait to learn even more next time!

We also loved meeting Arriann who joined us from Churchy. Welcome Arriann!

We have absolutely enjoyed our first week back with you all and already can’t wait to see what we make together for our AllScot Playcards!

What is happening in Block 3 for Porridge & Play Bridgeton?

After such exciting trips out we are venturing back to our hub this July and August and will be coming together to create our new AllScot Playcards!

These Playcards will already be like the existing Licketyspit ones, but will be created with the games you play and played as children, and new ones we make up together! You’ll be able to see them – and play them –  at our Storyplay Festival on Saturday 17th September!
