How YOU can help shape a revolution in children’s rights!

2020-09-14T12:58:15+00:00

Why are we so excited? Last week, something happened which made us very happy here at Licketyspit! In a big document outlining their plans for the next year the Scottish Government promised to deliver “a revolution in children’s rights” - how exciting does that sound?! They plan to do this by incorporating a major international law protecting the rights of children into Scottish law. It’s called the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is a bit of a mouthful, but that’s because it’s the most complete statement of children’s rights ever to be written. This means that it covers all parts of a child’s life. No-one, or nothing, is left out: the needs of each child is as important as the next. So, as well as extremely important things such as a right to education, healthcare and protection from violence, neglect and exploitation, did you know that children also have… ⭐ The right to be LISTENED TO Article 12 - respect for the views of the child ⭐ The right to EXPRESS THEIR THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS Article 13 - freedom of expression ⭐ The right to PLAY WITH THEIR FRIENDS Article 15 - freedom of association ⭐ The right to RELAX and PLAY! Article 31 - leisure, play and culture What does this actually mean for [...]

Ibrox Storyplay Celebration Assembly

2020-01-31T16:31:13+00:00

We rounded off a fantastic five-week Storyplay Residency at Ibrox Primary and Nursery with a joyous whole-school assembly. 10 parents and carers joined us and joined in with all the pupils and teachers in Big as a Bear led by Taz, Funky Chicken led by Primary 3, Grandma Grandma led by Primary 5, In the Way of the Word led by Primary 7 and Miss Mary Mac led by Primary 6! It was brilliant to see the older children dressed up and setting a wonderful example of exuberant imaginary play for the rest of the school and the nursery, and it was clear how much they were entertaining each other and enjoying the relaxed "ceilidh-style" sharing of some of the Storyplay games, rhymes and songs. We were also thrilled to have our Licketyspit Ambassador Tam Baillie talk to everyone about the importance of Children's Rights and the United Nationals Convention of the Rights of the Child. Thanks to all the parents who came along and joined in too! If you haven't done so yet, you can sign up to our Children and Families Network to find out about other Licketyspit projects around Glasgow. We've really enjoyed working with everyone at Ibrox and hope to be back soon. Look at the other blog entries on the Ibrox Storyplay page to see more of what we did during the first Storyplay Residency, and [...]

Week 3 Storyplay Residency at Ibrox Primary It was great to be back at Ibrox Primary for a third round of Storyplay! We worked with the Nursery for the first time, as well as Primary 7 who dressed up to play a marvellous Wink Murder. Taz popped into several classes for a Session 2 catch up. We played a few more games and it was brilliant to see how much everyone remembered and hear more of your creative ideas for imaginary play and stories. Looking forward to coming back for the Celebration Assembly on March 12th!
