We had a brilliant time creating warm-up action rhymes with P6 at Oakwood Primary School.  See their creative work below! Make yourself as SHINEY as a UNICORN, And as SPIKEY as a THORN, As HARD as a ROCK, And as SMELLY as a SOCK, As COOL as a KITSOON, And as ROUND as a MOON! Like a SPOON from TROON! Make yourself as BRIGHT as the SUN, As CUTE as ma HON, As BIG as a BUN And as HEAVY as a TONNE, Like a DISCO BALL that’s SPUN. Make yourself as Sticky as honey And as big as Bugs Bunny Who is very very funny And likes to eat money He sells a lot of carrots To buy gummy for his mummy And I think that’s very funny Cos the carrots they are yummy!

Oakwood LicketyLeap

2025-04-02T23:44:54+00:00

In Autumn Term 2018/19, 30 more children from Oakwood P1, P2 and P3 took part in LicketyLeap (The Story of Margaret & Margaret). In Session One, they travelled through the bog, over the sea, into the cave and up the mountain with Worried Margaret and Bold Margaret, to find their Heart's Desires! In Session Two, the children reenacted the whole story with the actor-pedagogues, using only a blanket. It's always incredible to see how much they remember and the increase in confidence to talk to us and share thoughts and ideas after Session One. Later in Session Two, parents and carers were invited to watch the video of the first session and some live reenactments of parts of the story by their children. It's so significant for the children to share this significant experience with the adults in their life and it's great to chat to parents and carers about the impact they think LicketyLeap has had on their child, and tell them more about why we do it.

Letters to Margaret & Margaret

2019-04-01T12:43:13+00:00

Lots of children at Oakwood Primary have travelled through the bog, over the sea, into the cave and up the mountain with Margaret & Margaret. They sometimes get letters from their friends the two Margarets asking for advice or to find out what they have been doing and the children like to write back with a picture. Sometimes they write a bit themselves, otherwise they tell their teacher what they’d like her to write on their picture. Last term the Margarets asked for ideas for their next adventure and the children gave them lots of wonderful ideas about places in the world they could visit in their hot air balloon! This term the two Margarets were flying over Oakwood again and wondering how their friends in Primary One were doing and whether they had been playing any of the games they showed them. So they sent them a letter to ask them - these are the children’s replies!
