2025-09-09T10:49:54+00:00

Castlemilk Blog! 4th September 2025 How cool is Castlemilk Library!? Not only is it bursting with books, it’s also a place where you can Storyplay, chat, eat and make new friends. It was great to see some familiar faces as we returned for the 4th year of Porridge & Play Castlemilk. Abu helped us at the sign in table as we welcomed new friends from St Bartholomew’s Primary and Arnwood Nursery Quick as a flash, we picked up our balloons and soon we were flying high above Glasgow! Gracey, Evie and Freya spotted a dinosaur – and oh no! It was eating their toes! We also saw lions and tigers, eating steak. Feeling a bit peckish, we flew down to grab some. Charlie spotted a llama and Danylo saw a hedgehog. They both made a lucky escape from that lion! When we dressed up we turned into all sorts of people. Just like in books, in Storyplay you can be anyone, go anywhere and do anything! We met Mr Spider, Strawberry, Mrs Dinosaur, Mrs Potato, Mr Peach from the beach, Mr Fishy, Mr Llama and many more new friends! Magic Ball, magic ball take us where we want to go! We met a sleepy hedgehog and fed it delicious nuggets. We swam in the sea with sharks and fish. A dolphin led us home. What an [...]

Porridge & Play Whiteinch Week 1

2025-09-09T10:56:48+00:00

Whiteinch Blog! 3rd September 2025 Wow wow wow, what a fantastic first week back in Whiteinch! We loved meeting up with old friends again, and introducing them to new friends from Whiteinch Nursery and Whiteinch Primary. The Funky Chicken was joined by the Cheeky Monkey, the Crazy Cat and even the Happy Capybara! Then up we went in our Flying Balloons! Candice saw the River Clyde. Lina saw a boat – it was a pirate boat! With birds and butterflies flying high above. Aaliyah saw a running cat and Elijah heard music from the pirates! Virginia spotted some ice cream and we all flew down for a cone. Deon had a sweet blue ice cream and Gaia had a bubblegum ice-cream. But oh no, Gaia spotted some lava – it was a volcano! And Nina saw people trying to jump into the volcano and a bear entering the lava! With a library card you can take loads of books home! Lucky we were so high up. Just then, a Naughty Seagull popped the balloon and sent us back to earth. When we were back, we transformed into a collection of fun and magical characters. A bit like characters from books! Lots of us took out books and some of us even got our very own library cards for the first time. We can’t wait [...]

Picnic & Play with our CRANHILL HUB!

2025-09-02T16:53:54+00:00

The weather was warm, and we had great fun dancing and playing games. Luckily for us, we met some very interesting friends of the Funky Chicken too. There was Annemarie’s Sassy Seahorse, Omar’s Angry Lion and Ahmad’s very Stinky Crab! We also met a very Silly Axolotl and an Old Elephant.   We had lots of fun with a very clever bunch of witches too who had marvelous witchy cackles and some very exciting juices including purple poison and large amounts of seagull juice. Very tasty! Talking of seagulls, we saw some very cheeky ones at the beach who liked sandwiches and muffins. One of them actually swallowed a muffin whole! We all enjoyed a tasty picnic and some yummy ice-cream which was a real treat. Then after all the delicious food we went to explore the beach and had so much fun together, paddling in the sea and finding treasure on the beach. We found pools of water in the sand, bright green seaweed, lots of different shells and even a crab skeleton. It was such a lovely day and just before it was time to go home, we had a game of Olly Olly Octopus which was so much fun! Then it was time to say goodbye to the sand and the waves and the shells and the naughty seagulls and so we all [...]

Picnic & Play with our WHITEINCH & ONLINE HUBS!

2025-09-02T16:49:50+00:00

A very sunny last Picnic & Play of the Summer in Troon Beach and our Whiteinch & Online Hub pals did not hold back… The sun was shining, and our friends were well prepared for Picnic & Play on Troon beach – swimming costumes & goggles, big brothers and sisters, smiles and excitement – fantastic ingredients for a cool day taking Storyplay out and about! We found a great spot on the beach, a big space that seemed to have a circle already drawn on the sand…coincidence? Our circle was big and our warmup busy – we danced, we made ourselves as Big As A Bear and we had a good stretch while taking that beautiful salty sea air in. Of course we played the all time favourite Funky Chicken and we had a Scary Tiger, a Galaxy Axalot, Jumping Starfish and Snapping crocodile amongst other funky animals! ‘Hello My Name Is Joe’ had us all pressing imaginary buttons vigorously and then we had a good round of Witches Fingers – cackling and running away! Love was in the warm air with ‘Letter to my Love’ and after all that the excitement was growing and the hunger was too!...PICNIC TIME! Everyone tucked in and got their energy up to get ready for seashore exploring and swimming! Shahla had brought cinnamon roles for everyone too which [...]

Picnic & Play with our GOVAN & ONLINE HUBS!

2025-09-02T16:50:23+00:00

We all know how fast the weather in Scotland can change but our bold Govan & Online Hubs are always ready to adapt and enjoy whatever the weather. We arrived in Balloch and saw some of the impact of a storm that had happened a couple of days before – branches scattered around and still some gusts of wind blowing now and again, whistling loud in our ears. We found a nice big clear space up the hill where we could make our circle and off, we started with Storyplay! Have you tried dancing outdoors? We very much recommend it – you may even get some other passing people to be inspired to join you! Funky Chicken was a lot of fun, and Hello My Name is Joe got us all panting and laughing in equal measure. We met a few Witches & Wizards with long fingers and a flair for making different bottles of strange beverages – even a tiny wee Witch who chased us all! As we were starting a game of ‘Letter To My Love’ the skies opened, and a summer shower descended upon us! But Licketyspit & friends are adaptable and determined so we quickly found cover under a canopy of trees where we not only played our game, but we also set up our camp so we could have our [...]

Picnic & Play with our BRIDGETON HUB!

2025-09-08T10:40:45+00:00

What’s the saying? If life gives you lemons…make lemonade. And if the Picnic cannot happen outdoors…have it indoors! Our fabulous Bridgeton Hub wasn’t fazed by the change of plan because the truth is, ALL we need for a brilliant Storyplay is our imaginations and each other! And that we had! That’s the great thing about Storyplay, we can be anyone, do anything, go anywhere with our imaginations and so today although we were indoors in a fantastic big hall at the CCH in Maryhill, we had a sea adventure as The Ugliest Pirate Crew ever known to Scotland! Amongst other things actually… As we always like to do, we had a nice big warm up – we first had a nice boogie and then we stretched to our Big As A Bear rhyme! We also met some cool animals playing Funky Chicken – Emilia showed us the Jumping Snake, Alan the Flying Fly. Tanisk came up with a Flying Car and Moira created the Angry Crocodile. Lexi was a Crazy Giraffe and Leeanne was Purring Cat. Lin created a Fast Dog and Suleman an Angry Cat. After that we all became Cackling Witches with long witchy fingers coming up with all sorts of weird concoctions to drink! ‘I’m going to drink a bottle of…Snake Juice!’  The big Reid Hall at the CCH is a great [...]

Picnic & Play with our CASTLEMILK HUB!

2025-09-02T16:50:44+00:00

Our cheery Castlemilk Hub had a cool day out at Loch Lomond shores!  It was warm and the view from the castle at the top of the hill was so irresistible that some of our youngest friends were immediately drawn to it. They sat on the grass and just took in the view - and then rollie- polled and sausage-rolled down the steep hill!   A country park the size of Balloch always brings on the irresistible desire to RUN! All that beautiful green space right there for you to enjoy - the soft rolling hill, the huge, big sky, the tall trees, the big, wide inviting bushes, the intriguing shore of Loch Lomond covered in beautiful pebbles and stones, the water gently moving. Playing outside can be so exciting, and it sure tickles your imagination - you may imagine yourself in an island hiding away from pirates or in a far-away land looking for water dragons! There were big smiles and even bigger shapes at our Dance Warm Up that of course brought the attention of other visitors - I wonder if they thought they would have a wee happy dance next time they are out visiting somewhere cool!  We also made passers-by stop, listen and smile with our fantastic Funky Chicken animals and we surely had a laugh inventing them!  We had a [...]

Last FOREST STORYPLAY with our MARYHILL HUB!

2025-09-02T16:55:11+00:00

Extravagant Forest Creatures, Wolves, a flying adventure and a Magic Ball out of this world.   The sun eventually shone on our last Forest Storyplay of this Summer and our Maryhilll Hub friends were more than ready to bring it to a magnificent end. Our Funky Chicken inspired everyone – Maha showed us a Calm Capybara, and Dana a Crazy Chicken. Rita brought a Sleeping Dog, Adam a Hairy Dog and Amira a Happy Cat. Yasna went with the Funny Orca and Aveen with a Funny Crab! Eman showed us a Silly Parrot, Maya a Scratchy Lion and Mohammed a Fast Cheetah. Flying up high with our Flying Balloons we saw a silver snake and a forest, an elephant, dots that were flowers, an African elephant, an elephant eating a boat, dragons, Mars! a costume party and we even flew down to the ground momentarily to get a piece of flavoured cake! The Forest had some exotic creatures: two squirrels, a fox, a cat, a bird, two butterflies and a girl that lives in the wild –all of them were wanting to know what time they were at?! What’s The Time Mr. Wolf? Wolfie Rita lived by herself in a puddle that was sometimes warm and sometimes cold. Her fave food was blueberries and her red watch she stole from a shop! Wolfie Squirrel [...]

Picnic & Play season is here! – Troon Beach

2025-09-08T10:40:59+00:00

Picnic & Play is here and Licketyspit is delighted to go on trips with friends from all our Porridge & Play Hubs across Glasgow. Picnic & Play is an opportunity to Storyplay away from our Glasgow neighbourhoods – visiting public spaces in our city - like museums, parks or galleries or visiting outdoor places outside Glasgow, like Troon Beach or Balloch Country Park and bringing Storyplay to all of them! The sky above Troon Beach looked dramatic – a combination of greys with occasional rays of light braking through the clouds. The wind was blowing and there were seagulls screeching loudly while circling in the air through a drizzle of rain. Sound dramatic, right? Well, no drama for our Maryhill Hub friends! – they were full of beans and so very excited about their day out that they almost didn’t feel how fresh it was – one certainly needed a couple of layers on! Graeme and Andy, our drivers dropped us near the promenade so carrying all our bits and bobs for our picnic wasn’t a huge effort and everyone helped so it was even easier. We settled and quickly many of our friends were already running around, digging in the sand or checking out the shore! DANCING ON THE BEACH! Our dance warm up got the attention of folk who were there also enjoying a [...]

Forest Storyplay with our Castlemilk Hub!

2025-09-02T16:56:50+00:00

Our Castlemilk Hub pals were excited to take flight at The Children’s Wood! It was delightful to meet and Storyplay with our Castlemilk Pals who were very smiley in the Big Circle and ready to get warmed up and have a go at Funky Chicken. We had a cracking game of Flying Balloons that started with Abu spotting people walking on grass before Taz saw some camels! Then to our amazement Jessica spotted a big tyre swing with a pink dragon on it and Susannah saw a giraffe! There were dinos dancing and dragons making a chicken BBQ with salad – well spotted Fiire! And some penguins with a stall giving out flavoured candy floss Then we met Forest Creatures like a Fighting Dragon, a Unicorn, a Jellyfish, a Ladybug, a Snake and a Flower moving in the wind - amongst others! We also of course met the Wolves who will tell you the time at your own risk! Wolfie Abu lived in a dark scary cave. He had secret jewellery and stuff to sell and he found his watch while digging up a cave. Fiire was Nice Wolfie, who lived in a sky tree house, ate bugs and liked to hang out with her friends. She found her watch - so someone must have lost it! Wolfie Avery liked diamonds and had lived [...]
