Forest Storyplay with our Castlemilk Hub!

2025-09-02T16:56:50+00:00

Our Castlemilk Hub pals were excited to take flight at The Children’s Wood! It was delightful to meet and Storyplay with our Castlemilk Pals who were very smiley in the Big Circle and ready to get warmed up and have a go at Funky Chicken. We had a cracking game of Flying Balloons that started with Abu spotting people walking on grass before Taz saw some camels! Then to our amazement Jessica spotted a big tyre swing with a pink dragon on it and Susannah saw a giraffe! There were dinos dancing and dragons making a chicken BBQ with salad – well spotted Fiire! And some penguins with a stall giving out flavoured candy floss Then we met Forest Creatures like a Fighting Dragon, a Unicorn, a Jellyfish, a Ladybug, a Snake and a Flower moving in the wind - amongst others! We also of course met the Wolves who will tell you the time at your own risk! Wolfie Abu lived in a dark scary cave. He had secret jewellery and stuff to sell and he found his watch while digging up a cave. Fiire was Nice Wolfie, who lived in a sky tree house, ate bugs and liked to hang out with her friends. She found her watch - so someone must have lost it! Wolfie Avery liked diamonds and had lived [...]

Forest Storyplay with our Cranhill Hub!

2025-09-02T16:59:54+00:00

Our bright Cranhill friends brought the sunshine with them to The Children’s Wood last Friday! Excitement was in the air as we all hugged and smiled delighted to be together again for some Storyplay fun. Our circle was BIG and our warm-up was BUSY! We had a very inspired game of Funky Chicken with some fabulous animals popping into our circle. We had a Scary Spider from Silin, Anne Marie's Flying Unicorn, a King bird and a Silly Sloth! Shiva was a Lazy Bunny, Ryan was a Whizzing Wasp and Shahd was a Scary Lion! Samuel imagined a Big Elephant and Esme became a Flamingo! Gabriella fluttered like a Happy Butterfly - and so did we! We met Prisca's Cheeky Cat, and wee David's Silly Dog. Gabbie created a Happy Axolotl......interesting! We also met a few Mr. Wolves with extremely cool watches and a dangerous appetite for the Forest Creatures we had dressed up as! Magic Ball! Magic Ball! Take us where we want to go! Have you ever been to Axolotl land?  Well that’s where our Magic Ball landed on Friday morning with our Cranhill Pals. We unzipped the Magic Ball zipper, stepped out and found ourselves at Axolotl Land where an Axolotl Party was about to kick off! And what, we wondered, do you do at an Axolotl party? We soon [...]

Forest Storyplay with our Whiteinch Hub!

2025-09-02T16:57:07+00:00

A very rainy day doesn’t stop FOREST STORYPLAY because our Whiteinch Hub pals are a very happy bunch! The rain came after all these hot days we’ve had in Glasgow and it is a good thing really because the trees and plants get very thirsty in the hot sun. Forest Storyplay at The Children’s Wood truly is a Storyplay session for all weathers and our brilliant Whiteinch Hub families had put on their waterproofs and their imaginations ready for their turn! One of the best things about Licketyspit’s Summer trips is when we get to see each other after a good while and everyone is so delighted! There were hugs and smiles all around. The tarpaulins – which are big cloths that we tie to tree brunches to create cover from the rain – were up between the tree-tops so we had a couple of dry areas to play and have lunch under but of course the rest of The Children’s Wood was fully available to run around, get muddy and find all sorts of interesting bugs – ask bug expert Milad! Funky Chicken brought us Semra as ‘The Crazy Bee’, Milad as ‘The Scary Mouse’, Shalah as ‘The Scary Chicken’ and Nedaa as 'The Slithering Snake’ to name but a few! Flying Balloons was the perfect game to create a fabulous flying [...]

Forest Storyplay with our Bridgeton Hub!

2025-09-02T16:57:37+00:00

Our cheery Bridgeton hub had a blooming good time at The Children’s Wood. They arrived nice and early and there were many smiles and hugs because we were all together again! Sarah taught us The Children’s Wood Rhyme and Andre helped us all to make ourselves as Big AS A Bear to warm up. We flew high above the Wood in our Flying Ballo0ns and then we met exquisite creatures with the Funky Chicken - crocodiles, sharks, a happy cat, a naughty elephant, even a Dancing Cricket! Dressing up was inspiring and inspired – our Bridgeton pals are particularly skilled at using old clothes to turn themselves into the most fabulous characters. They imagined the most colourful animals and creatures that lived in this Forest – a crocodile and a princess cat unicorn, a tiger, a flamingo, a flying squirrel, a giraffe, a chicken and a baby mouse! Did you know that in this forest only one animal has a watch? And when the forest creatures need to know the time there’s no other option but to ask, ‘What’s The Time Mr. Wolf’? We had Wolfie Rasha who lived in the same tunnel she found her watch in & Wolfie Maab who live in a tree and found her watch in the sky! Wolfie Emilia had a purple watch that matched her purple house! [...]

Forest Storyplay with Govan & Online Hubs!

2025-09-08T10:41:23+00:00

Welcome to the land of the Children’s Wood, it’ s a Wood that’s here for children and that’s understood! The sun was shining on the gorgeous Children’s Wood for the first Forest Storyplay of the season with our friends from Govan and Online Hubs. It is always so exciting to see the Licketyspit families again for the Summer programme of Storyplay and everyone was in great form to get it kick-started. Andre, Sarah, Taz and Virginia were all there joined by our fabulous volunteers Zainab and Taiwo. Did you know that Zainab and Taiwo have been playing with Licketyspit since 2019! It's fabulous that now that they are older, they still love Storyplay! Andrea from The Children’s Wood was also with us for Storyplay and to teach us forest-skills - like fire-making! It’s a place for us to PLAY and hide and seek and run. It's a place to have a picnic, it's a place to have fun!   Once we made our circle we learned The Children’s Wood Welcome Rhyme! The Children’s Wood it’s a green space in our city of Glasgow that is being looked after by the community. So of course we can play and have a lovely time there but also we can help to look after the Wood by being very careful with the trees, plants, bugs and beasties that live there and by not stepping over the [...]

FOREST STORYPLAY

2025-07-11T14:14:54+00:00

Forest Storyplay is a new collaboration with our friends from The Children's Wood! After last year's fantastic Picnic & Play sessions and Storyplay Festival 2024 at The Children's Wood we all wanted to go back there for more Licketyspit fun! The Children's Wood are very happy to have us back and so this Summer we will bring families from across all our Hubs to enjoy more fantastic Storyplay outdoors. Click on the logo to go to The Children's Wood website! At Forest Storyplay sessions this Summer we'll have our Licketyspit games, a nice wee picnic and we'll also get to learn a bit more about how to enjoy and look after The Children's Wood! Did you know that they grow food as well as beekeeping? And that they have a labyrinth? Did you know that not only they grow new flowers and plants but they also help the land recover by allowing different parts to grow wildly? And do you know about the fairies? And the giant? And the dragon?! I wonder how many characters and stories we can come up at the magical Children's Wood... We cannot wait to see you there very soon for FOREST STORYPLAY! Funky Lions! Unicorns & Dancing Dragons

2023-08-01T15:20:56+00:00

37 play in The Green Green Wood! There were 37 of us to play in The green green North Kelvin Meadow & Children’s Wood last Friday for the Maryhill/Ruchill Licketyspit Families’ Picnic & Play! We started in our lovely circle on the grass and met all the families – one from Troon by the sea and another family had caught 4 buses to get here! Everyone took turns to introduce themselves & lead everyone in a move from the middle of the circle ‘My name is Boatemaa and I like to jump!” There was dancing, dancing and more dancing! Fares showed us his ‘cool dance moves’ and Juliette shared her Irish Dancing! Then we were amazed by Funky Lions, Beautiful Unicorns and Dancing Dragons. After Cackling our way through Witches Fingers we feasted under the trees (some of us climbed into them!) on baguettes and cheese & fruit! Then we ran to explore the CHILDREN”S WOOD. Some of us played Truth or Dare from the Rubber Web springing between the tree trunks! Some of us climbed up into the treehouse. Some of us found squirrels and a tiny Fairy House hidden in a post! We dressed up as Witches & Grandmas – Ameera used sticks & a scarf to become the Knitting Grandma and Regina was the Reindeer Witch! The Kelvin Meadow & Children’s Wood [...]

From Bridgeton to Troon – dancing, sea, sand & a big bye to Ruby!

2023-08-01T15:22:58+00:00

Salsa, Sand, Sea & Send offs TROON We had a WONDERFUL trip to TROON with the Bridgeton Families! Some of us – led by Taz & Andre - had to dance on the sea wall to keep the Naughty Seagulls away from our Picnic – which was especially delicious because Tarika had made us DEELICIOUS chickpea stew & rice that we all LOVED & enjoyed along with our crusty French baguettes with, cheese, tomatoes, apples, bananas, tangerines and strawberries! We played Big as a Bear and Hello! My Name is Joe, Funky Chicken and CoCo. We danced and then we ran across the huge sandy beach and paddled in the waves! Most of us went to the playpark too before we came back for The Magic Clap and Muffins. The sun had come out! And we couldn’t choose what we’d enjoyed most about the day because it was ALL JUST LOVELY! It was also a bit sad and wonderful – sad because it was Ruby’s last day with the Licketyspit families as CFN Producer. Lots of people had send her Good Luck messages, and some of the Bridgeton Mums/Grans gave her a beautiful Hamper of Pamper! (box of relaxing treats!) and some gorgeous flowers – wonderful because it has been SO GREAT having Ruby at Licketyspit and we all LOVE her! AND we know she will never [...]
