LicketyLeap at St Mary’s – Group 3

2021-06-15T13:49:20+00:00

12th & 18th September 2019 The third LicketyLeap group (P1b) couldn't wait to get stuck in and were falling over themselves to tell us what was going on in the postcards at the start. It was great to find out that some of their big brothers and sisters have shared the story of Margaret and Margaret at home! A and others immediately spotted the sound of the sea and did some really realistic swimming with Worried Margaret. On the Shore they climbed trees to get apples and bananas, saw seahorses in the rock pool and G found rabbits. O stuck his hand right into his pocket to get a pretend apple out to feed the rabbits - he saw a whole family! There was a real camaraderie about how everyone was playing together. P & G asked the Bird for a lift to the top and there was a great conversation about what had happened when we found Worried Margaret again. They were particularly thrilled with their postcards from M&M at the end. "This is the water. (We were there) when we were nearly finding our heart’s desire. (hd?) Playing with my toys with my friends. (fave) swimming in the sea and flying with the Bird. When we were trying to get help to get our heart’s desires the Bird said yes and we said thank you. (what about [...]

LicketyLeap at St Mary’s – Group 2

2021-06-15T13:52:18+00:00

11th & 17th September 2019 We had a fantastic LicketyLeap with 9 children in group 2 (P1b). Every child contributed in the conversation at the start, C was especially chatty! After our mudfight, M suggested we go into the Sea to wash it off. In the Sea, L showed Worried Margaret how to swim on her back and R saw a boat. Everyone loved finding and sharing treasure. On the boat, everyone relished trying each other's fish and M gave the Fishy Lady a hug goodbye. In the Cave we saw bats, and everyone boldly shouted their name to make an echo. When the Bear appeared, a couple of people were a bit nervous, but they overcame any fears and patted and hugged it! S articulately told Bold Margaret about the Bear. L asked the Bird for a lift and after we reached the top of the Mountain, other L suggested sliding down. In Session 2, we revisited the story and everyone remembered it brilliantly. We also talked about our Heart's Desires: S – Swimming in the sea L – Go to the beach R – Find a unicorn L – Find a puppy C – Playing cousin’s xbox and a hamster M – Have a bunny and play with him in my home and go to the beach L – A unicorn L – Go to the mountain [...]

LicketyLeap at St Mary’s – Group 1

2019-09-26T13:07:24+00:00

11th & 17th September 2019 We had a brilliant first session of LicketyLeap with group one (P1a). 8 children joined Margaret and Margaret on their adventure through the Bog, over the Sea, into the Cave and up the Mountain! The were very engaged and chatty from the start, with every child giving appropriate answers about what M & M were doing in the postcards. The children helped get Worried Margaret into the Bog and loved finding the boggy blooms. E and J helped pull her out when she got stuck! H suggested we go over and help the Fishy Lady on her boat and everyone caught some fish - C's was red and green and tasted like cucumber and strawberry! On the shore, they saw giraffes, spiders, monkeys, elephants and C even saw a woodpecker in the trees! S was especially concerned about Worried Margaret when she fell off the cliff, but then T and E asked the Bird if we could ride on its back to the top of the mountain. In Session 2, we revisited the story and everyone remembered it brilliantly. We also talked about our Heart's Desires: H – Play with My little ponies T – Make a play of Margaret and Margaret, Happy Birthday O – Be with Mum, Birthday C – Riding a dolphin V – Play with my brother J – pencils [...]

Exploring Angelo – Bookplay at St Mary’s

2020-01-31T16:32:50+00:00

We had a brilliant time playing the Licketyspit games again and exploring "Angelo" last week at St Mary's with Primary 1A and Primary 1B. It was great to hear that so many families have been playing the Lickety Playcard games at home, and you could see how popular they are! Then, we created some fab circus acts after reading Angelo together. Here are some of the children's comments during the Licketyspit Gallery: "That's the show, that's all the colours of the rainbow. Lots of colours in the circus like a rainbow. Doing the circus was my favourite." P1A "That's me practising my moves that's the school and that's my house. That's the teacher and children. 2ND DRAWING: Me when I am an old man and I got a pirate ship." P1A And they still remember LicketyLeap! "Margaret and Margaret. That's you Happy Margaret and that's worried. They are playing, then relaxing, then at the park then in the water. Favourite was Funky Chicken." And what did the parents and carers think? "It's enjoyable and really gets you more involved with your child and their imagination" "FANTASTIC. Gets kids all playing together and builds up their confidence." See you again soon and keep playing!
