As part of our New Scots Integration project, Porridge & Play Hubs, we invited Ghanaian dancer Adie Baako to take us on a family art voyage in Bridgeton, Castlemilk & Cranhill. Read all about them below! Porridge & Play Hubs is running throughout 2022 with this block being the 2nd of our exciting New Scots Integration Project! Thank you to everyone who has partnered with us to provide such amazing experiences for our children & families, and to all our Storyplay Champions!  A Very Special Family Art Voyage for Porridge & Play Cranhill!  Thursday 19th May ‘That’s Adie teaching us to dance I was kind of dizzy thank you for teaching us to dance!’ - Bukumi We got our dancing shoes on for our first Picnic & Play Cranhill! What a welcome back it was - we had families old and new join us for a very special Session 1 of Block 2 and we all had a fantastic time. Starting outside in the gardens of the Cranhill Development Trust we had a delicious picnic with fruit, bread, cheese, carrots, peppers, cucumbers AND we got to make our own smoothies & milkshakes out of all the ingredients we had. I love my ice-cream I love my ice-cubes (Injeela) sugar and butter! I love my school, I love my life and I love everyone at Licketyspit! (Emmanuel) sugar and butter! ‘LET’S ALL PLAY THE DRUM, LET’S PLAY THE DRUM!’ We had such a FANTASTIC time at last week’s sessions with Thomas and Adie. They joined us on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday for the most brilliant and exciting workshops where we learnt a Kpanlogo drumming rhythm, some Ghanaian dancing and the ‘Sugar & Butter’ song! Thomas and Adie had great big Djembe drums from Ghana, but they told us that to learn drumming all you need is a mixing bowl or cooking pot from your kitchen! Everyone made brilliant drums from bowls, Tupperware boxes, and even great big yoghurt pots! Thomas showed us how to hold our bowls between our knees and which parts of our hands to use to make different sounds. Welcome to the Porridge & Play Online blog Storyplay City edition, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had during our virtual play sessions on Zoom! Get in touch to find out how to join. Scots Song & Kpanlogo Rhythms! What an exciting second week...Singing in Scots and Ga, making kitchen drum-kits and dancing!! Burns Night celebrations are known all around the world and at Licketyspit we thought that we should celebrate it bringing together Scottish cultures old & new! With support from BEMIS, we were very lucky to be joined by Amy Geddes and Adie Baako. They combined Scots song with Ghanaian Kpanlogo drumming and dancing for a session like no other. Our beats were so irresistible that even the littlest ones like Sam and Daniel and Fatima and Faith had to join in! Bring your calabash!’ 🎶 At this week’s Big Porridge & Play Online sessions, we had the privilege of being joined by Adie Baako, a professional dancer from Ghana now living in Scotland, and enjoyed a week of dancing and singing and moving and grooving! We sang about the calabash, danced the Kpanlogo, a social dance from Greater Accra in Ghana, and found out all about Adie’s life! Learning about Adie’s life 🇬🇭 🎣 Adie is a dancer from Ghana, now living in Midlothian, near Edinburgh. He's been dancing professionally for 26 years and he told us how he started dancing when he was a wee boy growing up in a village. Adie grew up by the sea with his Dad, a fisherman, and his Mum, who worked selling in the markets. Before going to school Adie, like other children, would do chores in the house to help the family, fetch water for the pots, and then wash to get ready to go to school to learn. At the last session of this Porridge & Play block we celebrated 5-weeks of Storyplaying together -  in Zombie Style… In Storyplay you can DO ANYTHING… Bridgeton families love it here Bridgeton families dance and cheer! We love moving our bodies, learning new steps and shapes and rhythms - children and grown-ups all shared their ideas in the Dancing Warm up! Funky Chicken is another old favourite at Bridgeton Hub! Every week we start with a round of Funky Chicken - is such a great game to get your imagination going quickly, by thinking of an animal and how it might move and sound! It was the last session of this block at Castlemilk Library and we all feel like we are great big family! We get in our circle cause circles are cool, Nerea plays music, we dance and we groove, A twirly fun Conga made with all our pals To get us all started and warm up our hearts! Make yourself big as House or As small as a mouse! As Thin as a pin! Or maybe a string?? As round as a ball, As a tree, very tall! Wobbly as jelly, Buzzy as a bee Have a wee think… What else could you be? These Monsters are weird.. These Monster are fun! Are these monsters real? They are all our pals! What a brilliant last session we had at Maryhill Hub! We danced, we Funky Chicken'd, we played Letter to My Love and of course we dressed up! This time as a fantasmagoric collection of Monsters - monsters of all kinds and sizes, with all sorts of favourite things to eat and do, with particular skills and even …secrets! Scott became ZomDaddy – I eat coco pops’  Iris – ‘I’m a dragon, I can fly’  Violet was a Two-tailed Monster – ‘I live at home in the ground. I live on my own, I like living on my own. Sometimes Evie comes to visit.’  Evie – ‘I am an Artist Baker Monster. Poor Bun Brother was a bit preoccupied although you wouldn’t think so when we first met him… ‘Aye, Aye, Aye I’m The Best, I’m the Best clap, clap, clap clap, clap, clap  We are the Bun Brothers; we are like no other! ‘ He was singing and cheering and clapping and he got us all involved in singing about him and his brother and how they are the best and they are like no other when suddenly… Poor Bun Brother realised that he was on his own, without his brother (who couldn’t come) and he was in a right pickle because he couldn’t remember any of his fantastic recipes! But his sadness didn’t last long as soon as he realised he had arrived in Castlemilk Library where he discovered a Delicious Crew of Brilliantly Creative CHEFs!! There was Angel Chef, Cool Chef whose speciality is pizza, Crazy Chef, Pizza Pie Chef, Mean Chef who is a dog as well as a chef, Fairy Chef, Prince Chef, Ninja Chef who specialises in Chocolate Milk, Sad Chef & Happy Chef, Wee Chef, Jamaica Chef & the world-famous Candyfloss Chef!  ‘Marvellous! The CONVENTION of Maryhill Road Chefs was in full swing this week at Community Central Hall... Incredible Chefs were arriving from all over the world for a sensational display of terrific cooking skills! People had gathered from far and wide to meet these incredible Chefs and to learn about their wacky creations… With the power of a Dressing Up Bag - (our bag full of old clothes and imaginings) - our inventive families transformed themselves into characters capable of extraordinary, ordinary and beautiful things! And today they became very special Chefs - with intriguing cooking specialities…. Violet was Cooking McCookson - who cooks sea monsters to perfection! - delish! Xiyu was Chef Sheffle - who makes strawberry doughnuts - yum! Shriyansh was Chef Kippa - who cooks Dinosaur Steaks - wow!
