Welcome to the Big Porridge & Play Online blog where we share our stories and adventures! Friday 24th June The return of the Jelly Catwalk!!! To land on a cloud would be a fine thing, but to land on a jelly would be a dream. What if this Jelly tasted of strawberries? And when you bounced you landed in a giant Jelly Castle?! This is what happened for us in our Magic Ball! We were greeted by a confused pink-haired Jelly Queen, who was holding her event of the year… THE JELLY CATWALK. ‘Would you like to join?’ She asked in a high pitched, wobbly voice. ‘You must dress up as a Jelly character, walk the walk, and each time the music stops… POSE!’   ‘YES,’ we all cried. And our Jelly characters were invented. Adeelah had a snake balanced on her head! Stella had ice-cream in her ears! Zoha was the doughnut girl! Anaya had scrunchies on her eyes! We walked the walk and posed until we could pose no more. And it even turned out there was a world famous French model there who exclaimed that she had never seen such amazing posing in her whole life!! 😮 What an adventure! With the excellent help of our Storyplay Champion Arriann we became investigators so we could interview our Grown Ups and see just what they were like when they were children! Before that of course we warmed up with a Dancing Warm Up! We loved it when Adie came to dance with us for a very special Family Art Voyage! We just love Dancing with Adie. Arwa and Hadir are experts in play and showed us by making themselves as BIG as a BEAR!!! We think we could have some future actor pedagogues! We had a lovely session with some wonderful families and we found out all about each of them! Amira told us how hot it was in Egypt and that she had studied Chemistry at University in Cairo and enjoys cooking a traditional dish called Dolma which has cabbage and rice and lots of herbs. Porridge & Play Ruchill is back!

Friday 29th July Drumroll please!! We are excited to announce that Porridge & Play will be BACK in Ruchill for autumn 2022! Sessions will run on Saturday afternoons at the Pavilion, in collaboration with North United Communities We will have a 6-week block starting on Saturday 15th October. How can I take part? Families can join our Children & Families Network to get further information and reminders nearer the start of the project. The launch session will be open to all. You will be able to sign up for the following sessions at the launch. If we are over subscribed, we will prioritise families with children between 3-8 years living in the local area. We can't wait to see lots of our old friends - and make some new ones! Free taster sessions! Schools, nurseries, community groups, youth work and family clubs can book a free taster session in September. Become a Storyplay Champion We are also looking for Storyplay Champion volunteers to support the sessions! Storyplay Champions are parents, carers, children's professionals and other volunteers who train in the Storyplay approach and support our team of specialised Actor-Pedagogue to deliver our Porridge & Play sessions. The Tall Ship or The Tall Ship Glenlee, was built in 1896. The former merchant sailing vessel will be 125 years old this year, the last remaining 3-masted Clydebuilt ship still afloat in the UK! The mission of the Clyde Maritime Trust is to care for the Glenlee and share the history of ships built on the Clyde for the benefit of all to enjoy and learn through its unique maritime heritage. The Tall Ship is based next to the Riverside Museum, which our Porridge & Play Cranhill and Castlemilk Hubs visited - you can read more about that here! Licketyspit love playing at the Tall Ship! We went on a Canal Boat adventure with the Forth & Clyde Canal Boat Society! The Forth and Clyde Canal Society was formed by a group of canal enthusiasts who felt that the decline in the canals of Scotland in the 1960s had to be reversed. They believe the canals are monuments to our industrial past and that they could be put to use in the future for the benefit of local communities and they could see that the decline in the canals needed to be highlighted to local and national authorities. After the completion of their main goal to have the canals fully reinstated for public use, they continue to support, promote and use the Canal in various ways! The Dream Machine was originally inspired by its founder Matthew Lygate's time living in a healing centre within the Amazonian jungle. There he stumbled onto the power of holistic community healing, music and sound therapy and traditional medicine. Years later at 257 London road Glasgow, the Dream Machine are using creative technologies to provide a unique space where anyone can leave their day-to-day reality at the door without traveling halfway around the world. The Dream Machine has many more voyages ahead and they'd love you to join! We had an incredibly busy Picnic & Play at the Dream Machine with 58 people in February 2020! We went back to one of our favourite places to Storyplay, which is the Riverside Museum! The Riverside Museum is the first purpose-built museum created by Glasgow Life in the 21st century. Located at the junction of the Rivers Kelvin and Clyde, it houses the city’s fabulous transport and technology collections, which have been gathered over the centuries and which reflect the important part Glasgow has played in the world through its contributions to heavy industries like shipbuilding, train manufacturing and engineering. The museum was designed by internationally renowned architect, Dame Zaha Hadid. The Glasgow Science Centre is a fun attraction for all the family!! Filled with lots to discover and explore we thought it was a perfect place for Storyplay to happen. The Science Centre is made of three floors filled with hands on activities and discovery. From the Whacky Salon to Flight Simulations there is so much to explore and learn. You can also bring a picnic to enjoy! Sally and Sheena work at the Science Centre and help families gain access. There are lots of ways you can go to the Science Centre one being you can pay with tickets costs £12.50 for an adult or £10.50 for a child. You can also get a Passport to Science by speaking with the Science Centre which gets you access lots of times!
