Bookplay

BookPlay is a drama-led play session for families with children under 12 that uses a rich children’s book as the stimulus for imaginary play.

Led by Licketyspit’s specially trained Actor-Pedagogues, we start by playing a variety of games from the Lickety Playcard repertoire. They might be BalloonsFunky ChickenWitches Fingers and more!

Then, everyone sits in a circle and the Actor-Pedagogues read out an illustrated storybook, like The Jumblies or Angelo and we talk about the story and the characters. Together, we then recreate the story, acting it out with a dressing up bag of old clothes and our imaginations. As we play, we can take the characters on new adventures and add our own ideas to the story as too!

The session ends with Reflective Drawing and the Lickety Gallery, where everyone is invited to present their drawing and talk about their experience of the session.

In BookPlay, the books are accessible to our youngest participants, while being rich enough to inspire the older children in the group. These long-standing and well-loved children’s books are easily accessible in local libraries and can be found in most bookshops or online.  If you would like to suggest a book you think would make a great BookPlay session, do let us know by email or social media.
