Storyplay City 2022

2022-02-24T17:22:58+00:00

Welcome to the Storyplay Online blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. Storyplay City is back It was wonderful to see lots of our Storyplay Champions back again for more imaginary play adventures! We also met some new friends who recently joined our Children & Families Network - welcome to the family! These online sessions are supported by Glasgow Communities Fund and take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This week's blogs are by Andre. On Wednesday... We ended up at the Great Wall of China, which when we touched it was pretty warm and tasted...like hot chocolate! Ameen, Amir and Abdullah said their part of the wall tasted like Strawberries, so everyone had a taste! Someone also spotted a banana tiger on top of the wall!   Then a Guard appeared and asked us to help him prepare for a great party! Precious sang Sent a Letter to My Love brilliantly and the Guard was so impressed that he asked us to come up with a dance for the ball. We worked together to make a choreography and everyone had fantastic moves! Laith said “This is fun” - we thought so too! When it was time to head back to the Magic Ball, we first had to get through [...]

Storyplay for the Planet

2022-04-12T09:57:32+00:00

Our East Centre Ward Residency Storyplay for the Planet is a series of Storyplay & Have Your Say Through Play sessions for families with 3-12 year olds in Glasgow's East Centre Ward (Cranhill, Riddle, Carntyne, Springboig & Barlanark) Licketyspit is delivering sessions in schools, nurseries and online for communities across the ward to support confidence, parental engagement, relationships and children’s rights. The school groups will receive an introductory Storyplay session, followed by a Have your Say Through Play session to support the children to express their thoughts, feelings & ideas about Climate Change using imaginary play. These sessions will be a chance for families to explore the issue of climate change and share their feelings about it creatively, elevating children’s voices and demonstrating the power of imagination to find solutions to the greatest collective challenge of our time! The project is part of the Glasgow Life Artist in Residency Programme. There are also some online Storyplay for the Planet sessions supported by Bloomberg to feed into the Create4Glasgow campaign. More on that project here. And some in-person sessions in Cranhill Park & Barlanark Park. This project has now ended. To find out more about our school and nursery sessions click here, or to make an enquiry, contact shona@licketyspit.com Read the Blogs! Storyplay for the Planet is back!

2022-01-27T15:40:53+00:00

Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. We were back on the 20th January for our second Storyplay for the Planet online session! These sessions are supported by Glasgow Life & Bloomberg as part of Licketyspit's East Centre Ward Residency and the Create4Glasgow project, supporting children's creative solutions to climate change! Read about our Storyplay adventure below: There we were dressed as pirates on a ship doing all our normal pirate duties: scrubbing the deck; climbing the rigging; clearing the rubbish out the water; sorting it into recycling when suddenly,  Pirate André found a small ball...We weren’t sure what it was but Pirate Felicia recognised it as The Magic Ball and told us all about it! “It’s a magic ball. We blow it up and we go inside it and we have to say Magic ball magic ball take us where we want to go, Magic ball magic ball take us where we want to go.” - Pirate Felicia So we followed her instructions and went inside the magic ball. We thought about all the places we might go, said the magic words altogether and then….. We arrived in the middle of a forest with GIANT trees. Fareedah [...]

Training Women’s Aid workers in Storyplay

2022-03-08T15:36:19+00:00

17th December 2021 In 2020, Scottish Women’s Aid (SWA) approached Licketyspit to explore a collaboration: ‘When I heard more about Licketyspit all I could think about was how few tools we’ve had (in WA) based on joy and play and love and excitement and art and music and all of the thing to allow us to express emotions and not only get them out but also share them in a really meaningful way with the people we love.’ Marsha Scott CEO SWA In Feb 2021 Licketyspit introduced Storyplay to 30+ Women’s Aid Workers – who immediately understood how they could use this imaginary play-based approach and methodology – “(Storyplay is) a great way to create empathy and connect with a child …who may be unable to understand their feelings & responses / (of) helping Mums and children build a shared experience and address difficult issues” Women's Aid Workers Feb '21 SWA approached Scottish Government to support an innovative collaboration between Scottish Women' Aid and Licketyspit. Last week the first Women’s Aid workers –from Wigtown to Shetland - completed an intensive 5-week online Licketyspit Storyplay Training programme - with flying colours! Storyplay is not as easy as it looks. Learning to facilitate it is to embark on a journey of learning, self-reflection and bold experiment! The WA workers all described a similar experience, initially feeling out of [...]
