Take 2: CFN Festive Trips!

2019-12-10T10:01:31+00:00

CFN Trip to Rosemount Development Trust 30th Anniversary Celebrations 01st December 2019 It was great to join the Royston community for an afternoon of Christmassy fun for Rosemount Development Trust's 30th anniversary. Ruby, our Children and Families Network producer, went along with a couple of CFN families from Maryhill and the Gorbals and a few of their friends. It was great to meet lots of new families and join them in a family takeover of Royston Road with a lantern parade featuring fantastic Caterpillar Lanterns decorated by local groups and classes. The Glasgow Playbus was another highlight - a huge double decker bus full of soft play tunnels and obstacles! It was also good to get some hot homemade lentil soup (a bit like our Porridge & Play soup!) made by Julia and her colleagues at North Glasgow Community Food Initiative - thank you! CFN Trip to see A Lad in Maryhill Pantomime 4th December 2019 It was great to be joined by families from Maryhill, Ruchill and Govanhill for our CFN trip to the panto here at the CCH. We're grateful to Halo Arts and the West End Festival for the preview night tickets. It was especially good to play a round of Funky Chicken while we had our mince pies beforehand! Good to see some older children from St Marys Storyplay 2018 still playing [...]

Big Porridge & Play

2024-03-14T17:50:04+00:00

BIG PORRIDGE & PLAY GLASGOW is a family Storyplay project for families with children under 12. It started with hubs in Ruchill, Whiteinch and the Gorbals, it has also taken place online, outdoors, and in Govan. What is Big Porridge & Play Glasgow? At Big Porridge & Play Glasgow (BPPG), families come together to play games, rhymes, songs and participate in imaginary adventures! The sessions also include a healthy, delicious meal round a table, and Reflective Drawing and the Licketyspit Art Gallery, where participants share their thoughts, feelings and ideas. BPPG has brought over 180 families together in their local community, culminating in a Celebration Events with family and friends, and whole city annual celebrations. You can read blogs about the 2019 sessions below or in Happening Now. BPPG is an expanded version of Porridge & Play, which developed out of our engagement with parents during our flagship early intervention project, LicketyLeap. Porridge & Play is based on the Lickety Playcard repertoire of 38 games, rhymes, songs, traditional street play and imaginary play. What's the story so far? 2024 We will be delivering our 8th year of Porridge & Play Glasgow, with sessions this Spring in Maryhill, Cranhill and Bridgeton alongside Online Family Sessions and in August/September we will be back in Govan, Whiteinch and Castlemilk. 2023 We delivered P&P sessions in our Bridgeton, Cranhill & Govan hubs, with sessions in Castlemilk, [...]

Porridge & Play

2024-03-15T11:56:10+00:00

Porridge & Play is an inter-generational imaginary play session for children under 12 and their families, based on the Lickety Playcard repertoire of 38 games, rhymes, songs, blanket play, traditional street-play and imaginary play activities. What happens in Porridge & Play? Porridge & Play (P&P) sessions begin with a delicious group meal of fruit, crusty bread, porridge for breakfast or homemade soup for lunch. Licketyspit’s actor-pedagogues then lead a fun and relaxed play session full of fantastic games, songs and imaginary play. The session ends with reflective drawing and the Licketyspit Gallery, where everyone presents their drawing and talks about what they thought about the session. The games are illustrated in the Lickety Playcards, a set of 32 cards with song words, game instructions and colourful illustrations for each Porridge & Play activity. You can watch videos of some of the Playcards, here. Why do we do Porridge & Play? Porridge & Play was developed in response to parents and carers in north Glasgow whose children participated in LicketyLeap. They were astonished and delighted at their children's confidence and creativity. They asked us, 'how can we do more of this?!' Porridge & Play was our response. The sessions are carefully crafted to develop children's creativity, social skills, confidence and relationships, and we regularly consult children and their adults about how we can improve and develop the sessions.
