Welcome to the Porridge & Play Online blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had during our virtual play sessions on Zoom! Get in touch to find out how to join. 6th, 7th, 9th October We had a fantastic second week of Family Art Voyage with our guest artist Caitlin Forbes who joined us on zoom from Caithness, in the north of Scotland. We learned all about Musical Theatre in her workshop all about chefs! First of all we had to come up with our chef CHARACTER! What did our chef look like? What kind of food did we cook? What was our personality like?  We met many chefs like ‘Chef Bunny Bun who was lovely and made cakes!’  Then we were ready to play a game of ‘YES CHEF!’ In this game we took turns being the ‘head chef’ who gave instructions to everyone else in their kitchen!  'Yes Chef' Game ‘Clean the kitchen!’ ‘Stir the Soup!’ ‘Chop the peppers!’  ‘Sweep the floor!’ After ‘YES CHEF,’ we used chefs instructions and tasks to come up with a dance routine! Caitlin taught us that anyone can make up a dance just by thinking of actions. For example: if the action is [...]

(Emmanuel) sugar and butter! ‘LET’S ALL PLAY THE DRUM, LET’S PLAY THE DRUM!’ We had such a FANTASTIC time at last week’s sessions with Thomas and Adie. They joined us on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday for the most brilliant and exciting workshops where we learnt a Kpanlogo drumming rhythm, some Ghanaian dancing and the ‘Sugar & Butter’ song! Thomas and Adie had great big Djembe drums from Ghana, but they told us that to learn drumming all you need is a mixing bowl or cooking pot from your kitchen! Everyone made brilliant drums from bowls, Tupperware boxes, and even great big yoghurt pots! Thomas showed us how to hold our bowls between our knees and which parts of our hands to use to make different sounds. Then we learnt a Kpanlogo’ rhythm which went along with these words: ‘LET’S ALL PLAY THE DRUM, LET’S PLAY THE DRUM!’ We them learnt a whole dance routine [...]

New Porridge & Play Hubs!

2021-11-24T16:34:45+00:00

7th September 2021 We are thrilled to announce that Licketyspit has been funded by the New Scots Integration Fund to set up two new Porridge & Play Hubs in Glasgow!  Porridge & Play Hubs - Castlemilk & East End will be delivered in partnership with Storyplay Champion partners, parents/carers and children from these communities, with open sessions starting in the new year. The project has been designed in consultation with the Licketyspit Children & Families Network and draws on Licketyspit’s highly successful and well-evaluated intergenerational imaginary play project Big Porridge & Play Glasgow. We chose Castlemilk and the East End for this expansion because of the high numbers of asylum-seeking families living in and around these areas who have joined Licketyspit’s Porridge & Play Online sessions and further, because of the enthusiasm of our local partners to learn about and use Licketyspit’s Storyplay approach. Thank you very much for the opportunity to learn and play with my child. It has been a magical experience. They're like your best friends Like a big family round a table! Don't know where we'd be without this...no one's judging there's lots of acceptance, feels like we're being brought into the community. We learned a lot of new games and we keep on playing them during daytime as well and we both enjoy it. We are [...]

Welcome to the Porridge & Play Online blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had during our virtual play sessions on Zoom! Get in touch to find out how to join. Saturday 19th June Larks in the park! Outing number 3 was at Elder Park! Elder Park is a park in Govan, just a short walk away from the River Clyde which is the river that crosses our city. ⛴️ The park has Elder Park Library, a boating pond, the original Fairfield farmhouse, the remains of Linthouse Mansion portico or ‘porch’ and a two small but lovely children’s play parks! 🏦 Elder park was gifted to the people of Govan for "healthful recreation by music and amusement" in 1885 by Isabella Elder, in memory of her husband, the shipbuilder John Elder. Ruby, Effie, Shona & Taz found a lovely flat bit surrounded by gorgeous trees where we could set up our picnic blankets and made a nice big circle with our cones and get everyone together safely for some imaginary play. Many locals from Govan came over to say hello and find out about what we were doing and they were very happy that we were visiting and enjoying their local park - with some families coming from as far as Drumchapel and Tollcross! And we [...]
