St Martha’s P3/2 Session 2

2020-03-13T15:37:03+00:00

Tuesday 10th March 2020 Today we had our second Playcard session with P3.2 and it was lots of fun! We met even more animals at the start of our session and everyone had the chance to draw and make up their own animal for The Funky Chicken - there were so many excellent ideas! In our balloons we flew all the way to Nigera and we saw a volcano and lots of mums nearby baking cakes and making snacks. We hosted our first Granny Convention where all of the children dressed up as Grannies and introduced themselves to the rest of the room. There were some very interesting characters. Then the Grannies decided they wanted a trip in the Magic Ball! We arrived somewhere with lots of shops and went into a cafe run by lots of different grannies who all served us lunch. We had pasta, and cake, and ice-cream and coffee. Then Kian led us to a lift that took us all the way to America. as we were exploring we had to hide behind a big rock because suddenly there were Tigers, Zebras and a Panther! We started to back away really slowly but then Shay saw a dinosaur! Luckily he was very friendly - he led us on an adventure but we saw a T-Rex and we all decided to turn into rocks to hide from [...]

St Martha’s P1 Session 3

2020-03-12T14:09:22+00:00

Tuesday 10th March 2020 In our third session with Primary One we all created Funky Chicken Animals and got a ride on a Dragon's back to a nearby lake where we went for a swim! We met the Running Zebra,  Nice Tiger, Happy Cat, Silly Giraffe, Friendly Shark and so many other animals - everyone created one! We flew off in our balloons - with suggestions we might see the beach, the jungle, aliens, cats.....! Mrs Reid saw the river and we saw some of our families and pets. Then a dragon flew over and let us climb on his back and we flew to the shores of a lake by a beach. It was an island covered in white flowers! Harry saw some ducks living on the island, Harlow saw crabs. Everyone swam in the lake and we found a statue and a rainbow treasure chest. Darceigh found the key! There were sharks too - eek! We all ate macaroni cheese, ice cream and juice handed out by different children.  Then we made the silk back into a dragon and flew back to school. We dressed up as aliens and astronauts and then turned on all the buttons in the button factory in Hello My Name is Joe. And then we made a delicious cake in Let's Bake a Cake. Full of strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, ice-cream and chocolate! Primary One's [...]

Miltonbank P3 – Session 2

2020-03-13T13:07:58+00:00

Wednesday 11th March 2020 Blog by Taz: I met the P3 class this morning for the first time. A lively lovely bunch! Even though they hadn’t met me before they were kind and welcoming. We had a good warm-up that everyone seem to enjoy and we got on with playing! Funky Chicken was a fun surprise as many of the children offered fantastic animals: a cheeky cat, a nice fish, an angry alligator, a crazy dolphin... We took a big old trip on our balloons over Europe and then further across the world and after that had another rendition of ‘Grandma, Grandma’. Today we’ve learned a new tune called ‘Miss Mary Mac’ which was a hit with P3 as they really enjoyed singing and doing the actions to Mary Mac’s story! Everyone dressed up with gusto and somehow we ended at the mercy of a pirate Captain called Captain Potato on a pirate ship... After being ordered about but Potato and a few of different Captains Virginia led us through a wee relaxation that opened our imaginations to the creation of characters about to attend a fabulous party! Upon arrival to the party we introduce ourselves to each other. There were grandmas and witches, mermaids, robbers, the king of pineapples, the king of animals, the king of ninjas...all sorts!. We then had our very own individual entrance to the [...]

Miltonbank P4 – Session 2

2020-03-13T12:40:19+00:00

Monday 2nd March 2020 We had another brilliant session of STORYPLAY with the Primary 4's this week at Miltonbank! Everyone was full of energy, excitement and creativity which was reflected in fantastic dressing up and the amazing drawings that followed! Everyone remembered lots of the warm up and joined in loudly, which really got our bodies and minds ready to go! Lots of great animals were thought of in Funky Chicken, such as the 'squeaking guinea pig' and the 'silly dog!' We flew high above the world in balloons, seeing mountains and rain-forests and even as far as the milky way and meteors! The most exciting part of this session was when we went into the Magic Ball... We landed in the North Pole and it was absolutely freezing cold! Luckily Leah had a huge tent for everyone so we all helped to put it up and managed to quickly get warm inside by lighting a fire and putting on extra layers. There was lots of space for everyone to huddle round the fire so we handed out marshmallows and fish and had a BBQ, it was really delicious! We then went on a walk out into the arctic where Rudolph appeared! He was very excited to see us and was extremely excited to drive us on his hovering spaceship car to try and find Santa! Santa (Kyle) gave us [...]

St Martha’s P4/3 Session 2

2020-03-12T12:49:43+00:00

Tuesday 10th March 2020 We had our second STORYPLAY session with the creative and energetic P4/3 class at St Martha’s on Tuesday, which was our first session with Mrs McAuley! The class were buzzing with new animal creations in the Funky Chicken! Arran showed us his Crazy Turtle! Ciaran told us about the Nosey Dog who had a great sense of smell… Sniff Sniff Sniff and Feras delighted us all with his Silly Chicken Donkey which was a Funky Chicken first! Keep an eye out for all your Funky Chicken drawings in the next few weeks… Ruby reminded us all about what our body parts are called in the Ickerickeroo! We have our Brain Boxer and our Eee-Peepers. What were the other body parts we learned on Tuesday? Can you remember? We introduced the class to Witches Fingers, and this was very popular! We met Witch Desire who had a very scary witchy cackle and we also met Witch Mrs McAuley who was very popular with the class! Our game of Witches Fingers opened up our creative imaginations and we all dressed up in our best Witchy costumes! Witch Ruby then welcome us all to the 2020 Witch Convention! Witch Ciaran jumped into a cauldron and his potion allowed him to travel all over the world! Witch Mohammad showed off his teleportation skills and Witch Myia flew over the [...]

Miltonbank P7/6 – Session 2

2020-03-13T13:14:33+00:00

Wednesday 11th March 2020 Primary 7 did the BIG as a HOUSE warm-up and then invented their own! We did Hello my name is Joe! And a hilarious Miss Mary Mac, which got faster & faster! Most people really love the dressing up & created more sensational characters! You’re never too old to enjoy dressing-up but most of us hadn’t done it since P2 or nursery or at all! (Mrs Morton joined this session for the first time and became a spectacular Witch!) We talked about how play opens up the rich imaginations everybody has. The more you use your imagination the easier it is to imagine! It’s like daring to share your ideas or drawing without worrying about what other people might think. Everyone feels that mixture of nervousness and excitement at times in improvised group play. In the Magic Ball Senaria showed us how to make our silk into an Igloo and Liam taught us all how to drill a hole in the ice! We had two further Magic Ball adventures after that – Kerris Sean, Liam and Joel led a bank robbery with Effie and Callum, Aimee and Serania went into space – Callum told us about the Super Nova! We played In the Way of the Word too! You can find out more about the Lickety Playcards and how they support learning and health and [...]

Picnic & Play at the Dream Machine

2020-03-09T11:25:45+00:00

29th Feb 2020 We had an incredibly busy Picnic & Play at the Dream Machine with 58 people!* However, it was wonderful to introduce so many new families to Lickety Play and have so many people from different backgrounds (over 5 different languages!) meeting and playing confidently and enthusiastically together. In Funky Chicken we met the Quacking Duck Duck, the Cheeky Cheetah,  the Meowing Cat and the Cheaty Minecraft! We saw princesses in towers, purple boats, football stadiums, cars, friends going to college and in the garden from our Flying Balloons and met Granny Ann and Granny Conor, Granny Harley, Granny Maddison and Granny Mohamed in their tree-houses, mansions and houses in the forest of Monster Trees! Hello My Name is Joe was excellent, with lots of laughter! All the food went down well, and we even managed to share a small plate of leftover fruit with The Space's cafe team and visitors. We know some people were a little disappointed not to go into the Dream room itself on Saturday. Unfortunately because of a shortage of staff at the venue, that wasn't possible this time, but there are lots of other free & pay what you can activities on at the Dream Machine! Do go and discover it another day and tell us what you think! Visit their website here or find them on Facebook here. *(Admittedly the room was a bit [...]

LicketyLeap Session 2 – Revisiting & sharing with families!

2021-06-15T13:47:22+00:00

4th March 2020 It was great to meet again and talk and remember our journey through the BOG over the SEA into the CAVE and up the MOUNTAIN to find our HEART’S DESIRE! We talked about our Heart’s Desire – whether there was something we’d like most in the world that would make us very happy? You can see the children's answers below. We did the whole LicketyLeap adventure again ourselves this week but this week we just did it with a white blanket and two red berets! We pretended to be Happy Margaret and Worried Margaret popping out from behind the curtain to the music – it was very funny! Then we made the blanket into the bog, the sea, under the sea, the cave, the bear, the bird and the mountain! In the morning Kyra, Tierney and Junior were the Bear and in the afternoon it was Lexi, Dale and Euan. The bears roared but they cried when we shouted ‘Poo Poo Bear!’ and we had to clap them to make them feel better and feed them! Liam, Lujain, Iona and Babecer were the Bird – and spoke Bird! They carried us all up the mountain on their backs! We looked down far below us and we could see everything – the Fishy Lady in her Boat (Ewan and Julie were the Fishy Lady); the Bear, [...]
