Picnic & Play season is here! – Troon Beach

2025-09-08T10:40:59+00:00

Picnic & Play is here and Licketyspit is delighted to go on trips with friends from all our Porridge & Play Hubs across Glasgow. Picnic & Play is an opportunity to Storyplay away from our Glasgow neighbourhoods – visiting public spaces in our city - like museums, parks or galleries or visiting outdoor places outside Glasgow, like Troon Beach or Balloch Country Park and bringing Storyplay to all of them! The sky above Troon Beach looked dramatic – a combination of greys with occasional rays of light braking through the clouds. The wind was blowing and there were seagulls screeching loudly while circling in the air through a drizzle of rain. Sound dramatic, right? Well, no drama for our Maryhill Hub friends! – they were full of beans and so very excited about their day out that they almost didn’t feel how fresh it was – one certainly needed a couple of layers on! Graeme and Andy, our drivers dropped us near the promenade so carrying all our bits and bobs for our picnic wasn’t a huge effort and everyone helped so it was even easier. We settled and quickly many of our friends were already running around, digging in the sand or checking out the shore! DANCING ON THE BEACH! Our dance warm up got the attention of folk who were there also enjoying a [...]

Forest Storyplay with our Castlemilk Hub!

2025-09-02T16:56:50+00:00

Our Castlemilk Hub pals were excited to take flight at The Children’s Wood! It was delightful to meet and Storyplay with our Castlemilk Pals who were very smiley in the Big Circle and ready to get warmed up and have a go at Funky Chicken. We had a cracking game of Flying Balloons that started with Abu spotting people walking on grass before Taz saw some camels! Then to our amazement Jessica spotted a big tyre swing with a pink dragon on it and Susannah saw a giraffe! There were dinos dancing and dragons making a chicken BBQ with salad – well spotted Fiire! And some penguins with a stall giving out flavoured candy floss Then we met Forest Creatures like a Fighting Dragon, a Unicorn, a Jellyfish, a Ladybug, a Snake and a Flower moving in the wind - amongst others! We also of course met the Wolves who will tell you the time at your own risk! Wolfie Abu lived in a dark scary cave. He had secret jewellery and stuff to sell and he found his watch while digging up a cave. Fiire was Nice Wolfie, who lived in a sky tree house, ate bugs and liked to hang out with her friends. She found her watch - so someone must have lost it! Wolfie Avery liked diamonds and had lived [...]

FOREST STORYPLAY

2025-07-11T14:14:54+00:00

Forest Storyplay is a new collaboration with our friends from The Children's Wood! After last year's fantastic Picnic & Play sessions and Storyplay Festival 2024 at The Children's Wood we all wanted to go back there for more Licketyspit fun! The Children's Wood are very happy to have us back and so this Summer we will bring families from across all our Hubs to enjoy more fantastic Storyplay outdoors. Click on the logo to go to The Children's Wood website! At Forest Storyplay sessions this Summer we'll have our Licketyspit games, a nice wee picnic and we'll also get to learn a bit more about how to enjoy and look after The Children's Wood! Did you know that they grow food as well as beekeeping? And that they have a labyrinth? Did you know that not only they grow new flowers and plants but they also help the land recover by allowing different parts to grow wildly? And do you know about the fairies? And the giant? And the dragon?! I wonder how many characters and stories we can come up at the magical Children's Wood... We cannot wait to see you there very soon for FOREST STORYPLAY! Porridge & Play Castlemilk Week 3

2024-09-20T10:40:07+00:00

Castlemilk Blog! Do you know why circles are great? Because when we are all in a circle, you can see everyone and everyone can see you and playing is best when we all do it TOGETHER! We had a great big circle yesterday at Castlemilk Library as there were many of us ready to Storyplay at Porridge & Play! We got our bodies, and our imaginations warmed up with ‘Hello My Name is Joe’, a fun rhyme that makes you move your body in ways you may not have done before! And as our cool librarians had selected some spooky themed books for us to take out this week we decided to have a game of Dressing Up that fitted the theme… so…we became WITCHES at a Witches Convention! A couple of journalist Witches were there reporting on the Witchy World so we got to find out many things like witches’ names, their means of transport and their favourite food from the Witchy Buffet at the Convention: Witchy Maria arrived on top of someone’s car and likes pizza! Whichy White Coat came on a broom and likes chocolate cake! Susanna was the Wicked Witch of The Milk and likes squashed frogs and came on a mop! Abu was Spider Witch, came on a rainbow flying carpet and likes frogs! Mystery Witch likes lizards! Witchy Fraser came [...]

2023-08-22T16:21:09+00:00

Porridge & Play Castlemilk is a Licketyspit Storyplay project for families with 3-8 year olds in the area. Find all of Porridge & Play Castlemilk's adventures here! Wednesday 2nd August We had an awesome final session at Castlemilk Library! We turned the music UP and we booogied our way through a dancing warm up teaching each other our favourite moves before declaring ourselves as BIG as Bears & meeting a whole HOST of funky chickens. We clucked & squawked and jumped like jumpy frogs, sneaked like sneaky cats, got all mixed up as confused octopuses do, roared like angry lions, HISSED like angry snakes until finally we were BARKING like angry dogs. AND then someone said... "Joe? Are you busy?" We all said "NO!" Pushed all the buttons till each and every limb was occupied ready to burst... or rather we were really ready to... DRESS UP AS PIRATES! And enter the magic ball. Through the magic ball we found a pirate crew...we didn't have a ship but we did make it to pirate island. On pirate island we saw PREHISTORIC ANIMALS & ran away from cannibals. Suddenly a blue whale appeared. It was a relief that Harris could speak Whale! Harris told us that the whale was desperately hungry. All hands were brought on deck to feed the whale (although still..no pirate ship)..but we did [...]

A quick climb in the play park before getting our MAPS & entering the woods suddenly...a Fairy appeared on the Bridge! the Fairy told Jared she had drank a potion to make herself grow so she could talk to us and that we needed to help her FIND GORDON THE GOBLIN! Glug glug glug... we followed the smell of goblin grub! Chitter chatter, sun was shining, stopping not to wonder why, finding lots of butterflies! Round the woods we went searching for Gordon. It was a relief to find out a few of our pals could speak Goblin and that they could teach the rest of us.
