Porridge & Play Maryhill is a Licketyspit Storyplay project for families with 3-8 year olds in the area. Find all of Porridge & Play Maryhill & Ruchill's adventures here! Blog post written by Sarah! Fabulous Grannies! Wednesday 29th March A truly fabulous time was had by all on our wonderful forest adventure and we met some great new friends! Forest creatures First we saw some huge bears who were actually quite gentle, some very sneaky foxes and a lot of beautiful swooping and gliding birds. Funnily enough, that Funky Chicken also had some amazing pals to introduce us to and I don’t think we’ll ever forget Rita’s Just a Dog who was so bouncy and Ameerah’s Fat Lion, who was very strong, Jdile’s T Rex Dino, who was very tall and Mohammed’s Crazy Owl, who flew super fast.  The Catwalk After all this animal excitement, we decided to get dressed up and show everyone our fine costumes on the Catwalk - there were so many colourful characters and styles, it was just spectacular! Tomato Pie We decided with glee that we all looked like incredibly glamorous grannies and in that second, we were mysteriously transported to the wild forests of California where we found ourselves smack, bang in the middle of Granny Ameerah’s garden which was covered in tomato plants. She was the most friendly [...]

We all really enjoy this. I have met new friends, our language is better because of this” “Like nothing else we do. Great early drama/improvisation. Lots of imagination. Inclusive and child led!” “You won’t be alone here. I’ll be your friend” “Don’t know where we’d be without this. No-ones judging, there’s lots of acceptance, feel like we’re being brought into the community.” We [...]

Porridge & Play Cranhill is a Licketyspit Storyplay project for families with 3-8 year olds in the area. Find all of Porridge & Play Cranhill's adventures here! Blog post written by Sarah! We saw lots of stars in Cranhill last week! Wednesday 15th March All of us bravely blasted into space in the Magic Ball and together we space walked with Heather in a strange new atmosphere.... It was light and floaty and made us feel weightless. We tried space-running and bouncing and that felt amazing!  Then suddenly an alien came and spoke to us in a funny beeping language that we’d never heard before, but fortunately, Donald and Mohammed were able to understand that the beeping alien was very hungry. Heather gave her chocolate which she ate very quickly and seemed to like very much, then we gave her cake as well. She really seemed to love sweet treats and after those snacks she seemed very happy and waved goodbye to us as she floated off into the atmosphere! Next we discovered a beach with very soft, warm, pale blue sand that you wanted to wiggle your toes in. Zamn took us to some frozen jellyfish who were looking up at us from the edge of the shore. The frozen jellyfish were all the colours of the rainbow and so beautiful to see. Zamn also [...]

Porridge & Play Govan is a Licketyspit Storyplay project for families with 3-8 year olds in the area. Find all of Porridge & Play Govan's adventures here! Blog post written by Sarah! Govan was just delightful and packed full of magical adventures! Wednesday 1st March We danced our socks off in the groovy Dance Warm-Up with some mighty fine moves from Bimbo, Toby, Shadda, Sami and Mohammed to get us all warmed up. Then we met some of the Funky Chicken’s new pals. It was just marvellous to meet the two Biggies - Tiger and Hedgehog - and then the Sharp-Nailed Sloth and a very Happy Axolotl. What a treat! We were searching for the Magic Ball and Shadda and Azeem managed to find  different pieces of it which we stuck together. After Ameen and Amir remembered the song, we sang it all together. Off we went to a far off land that was very white and snowy... Where we found a Penguin! Mohammed saw it, in amongst all the mist and the icicles, and fortunately he was able to speak the special Penguin language of this land! He let us all know that this poor wee shy penguin was lost! It looked very worried, so we were so glad when Bayan said she knew the way to her home! We all bravely followed Bayan, trudging [...]

Back for a winter family meet up! Wednesday 15th February What fabulous adventures we had at Castlemilk Library with all our friends and their families on Wednesday! After a very groovy Dancing Warm-up, a meeting with lots of Funky animals and some very Mucky Brew, we dressed up as lots of wonderful characters. This included the amazing Mrs Silly from Silly-land created by Abdul, who got us to do lots of silly moves that made us feel great. Then suddenly, Ruby spotted the Magic Ball! Of course it was extremely tiny,  so we had to blow it up to fit us all in. Then we stepped inside and zipped ourselves up, ready for a new adventure. We talked of going to Africa, to Birmingham, to Space, to Candy-land and when we did actually arrive, we found ourselves facing a giant spider!  We quickly had to decide what to do next. First we were very afraid and shouted out “Stop annoying us!”, then we considered some bug spray, but the spider did actually seem a bit scared of us, so we couldn’t do that, then Sayeda finally came up with the plan of [...]

The Storyplay Festival 2022

2025-04-02T23:50:17+00:00

The Storyplay Festival was part of our New Scots Integration Project 2021/22 Click here to find out more about the Cranhill, Castlemilk & Bridgeton Hubs who hosted the festival with us. On Saturday 17th September Licketyspit friends old and new gathered for a day that we will never forget. It was the first ever Licketyspit Storyplay Festival, and what a day it was! It was blue skies all round, and the sun shone down on Dassie Park, Glasgow Green. By 9am the Licketyspit team, with help from brilliant volunteers, were busily getting the park ready. Putting up colourful signposts, spotty tablecloths, Storyplay exhibitions… It was set to be a day full of dance, song, picnicking, crafting and most importantly… PLAY!  By 10.45 the Porridge & Play Hubs started to arrive, Castlemilk, Cranhill and Bridgeton. These groups were here to help host the festival with us and each had a designated area with an exhibition displaying their Storyplay adventures over the past year. At 11.30 everyone had arrived, and we were ready to begin. Virginia, Ruby and our Licketyspit Ambassador, Zainab Adeleye welcomed everyone to the festival and warmed us all up with a great big Grandma Grandma! Then one by one the Lickety hubs stood up on the stage and presented their group! The Castlemilk Hub told us how they like to play! [...]

A Big Play Party!

Find all of Porridge & Play Bridgeton's adventures here! Blog posts are written by André! Block 3 Week 4 Porridge & Play Bridgeton Friday 26th August Hello and welcome to the Licketyspit Bridgeton Celebration blog! We had so much fun at the Calton Heritage & Learning Centre playing all kinds of games and rhymes, including 4 of our very *new games*. How fantastic! Everyone was so considerate of each other during all the games and it really felt like a family party with lots of sharing, lots of energy and lots of integration between families and guests! We were had Ross the filmmaker and Eoin the photographer for our big celebration, as well as Ammar the interpreter, and later this year you'll be able to watch the film about the project. Alan led the Funky Chicken brilliantly, thoughtfully and inclusively choosing people to go next. Lexi did the Funky Pig today for the first time ever. Leeanne said she does it all the time at home, but today was the first time she did with all of us! Kho Kho, shared by Tarika, Tanishk & Ridhi, was brilliant! We absolutely loved playing this game with all the families eagerly waiting for who had the paper hidden behind them, and cheering each other on. William explained Chaos Tag really well, and we had so much fun [...]

Find all of Porridge & Play Cranhill's adventures here! Blog posts are written by Effie! Celebrating Block 3 Thursday 25th August & Thursday 1st September Our last couple of weeks of Porridge & Play Cranhill were wonderful! We learnt so many new games and songs so it was really hard to choose what to share at the Storyplay Festival. Before we even started one session some of us were playing Chiri Udi Kan Uda together! We decided the first game we'd share at the Festival was going to be Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy Oh. Everyone got a chance to say Change your Style or Stay Like That, like Beauty had taught us and there was so much laughter as we tried to trick each other into moving when they weren’t supposed to. A fter that we brought back some of our amazing dance moves from the warm up for a game of Disco Tag! Genesis and Tiwani were so fast it wasn’t long before most of the room was dancing on the spot hoping that someone would come and dance with them to set them free!  Then Shiva chose to play Shaylin’s game Trees and again everyone was having so much fun creeping slowly and even if they got caught moving, it was just as much fun to try and catch someone else moving as it was [...]

Block 3 Week 6 of Porridge & Play Castlemilk Wednesday 24th August What a wonderful Celebration we had to mark the end of our New Scots Integration project in Castlemilk. It was so lovely to see so many of  our Castlemilk crew coming along to join the fun! We even had a special guest, Freya’s friend Lily. Michelle reprised her excellent leading of Big as a Bear and Nicola valiantly stepped in to save the day when the music wasn’t quite ready and got us all warmed up with a fabulously Funky Chicken. There were a lot of awesome dance moves in Andre’s Dance Warm-up and just when we were hoping Abu & Sayeda would join us for their Circle Game, they arrived! So, we luckily got to play it twice and Ameerah & Junior both got to be ‘It’- they were such great [...]

Everyone was raring to go as soon as they arrived with a fabulous Dance Warm-Up! In this session we went exploring to find out what kind of games everyone likes to play when they’re not at Licketyspit and we got so many games from all of you! It was amazing! Priscilla told us about Hopscotch, Genesis told us about Hide n Seek and we learnt so many different kinds of Tag... There was Chaos Tag, where everyone is ‘it’ and if you Tag someone at the same time you have to do Rock, Paper Scissors to see who’s out Disco Tag where you have to do a dance move if someone tags you and you can only be freed when someone copies you Toilet Tag where [...]
