We also met some new friends who recently joined our Children & Families Network - welcome to the family! These online sessions are supported by Glasgow Communities Fund and take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This week's blogs are by Andre & Taz! On Saturday... This week we had amazingly creative funky chicken animals like the Undecidable Lion by Adeelah and Muizza’s Angry Armadillo. Afterwards, we had a chat about Armadillos incorporating learning into fun play. After the session, we decided to look more into this animal and share what we have learned. “Armadillos are small mammals related to sloths and anteaters. They have a tough armor that protects them from enemies and other dangers. The word armadillo is Spanish for “little armored one.” "Armadillos have a heavy build with short legs and strong, curved claws. There are 20 species, or types, of armadillo. They live mainly in or near hot regions of Central and South America. One species lives in the southern United States. Most species live in open areas, but some live in forests. Armadillos [...]

We ended up at the Great Wall of China, which when we touched it was pretty warm and tasted...like hot chocolate! Ameen, Amir and Abdullah said their part of the wall tasted like Strawberries, so everyone had a taste! Someone also spotted a banana tiger on top of the wall!   Then a Guard appeared and asked us to help him prepare for a great party! Precious sang Sent a Letter to My Love brilliantly and the Guard was so impressed that he asked us to come up with a dance for the ball. We worked together to make a choreography and everyone had fantastic moves! Laith said “This is fun” - we thought so too! When it was time to head back to the Magic Ball, we first had to get through [...]

2022-01-27T15:40:53+00:00

Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. We were back on the 20th January for our second Storyplay for the Planet online session! These sessions are supported by Glasgow Life & Bloomberg as part of Licketyspit's East Centre Ward Residency and the Create4Glasgow project, supporting children's creative solutions to climate change! Read about our Storyplay adventure below: There we were dressed as pirates on a ship doing all our normal pirate duties: scrubbing the deck; climbing the rigging; clearing the rubbish out the water; sorting it into recycling when suddenly,  Pirate André found a small ball...We weren’t sure what it was but Pirate Felicia recognised it as The Magic Ball and told us all about it! “It’s a magic ball. We blow it up and we go inside it and we have to say Magic ball magic ball take us where we want to go, Magic ball magic ball take us where we want to go.” - Pirate Felicia So we followed her instructions and went inside the magic ball. We thought about all the places we might go, said the magic words altogether and then….. We arrived in the middle of a forest with GIANT trees. Fareedah [...]

Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. We were back at Bellrock Nursery on Friday 10th December for our second Storyplay for the Planet session!  It was a glorious session once again at Bellrock primary school with lots of fun packed into it. We had some newcomers, but everyone who came last remembered our Big as a Bear warm-up, and our newcomers picked it up so fast with a big roar, we got through it all as fast as a hare! Funky Chicken was incredible with so many interesting and diverse animals including Albie's Barking Dog where we all became this funky creature. Our wonderful Storyplay Champion Josephine also had to have a go showing us her Snapping Crocodile. We also saw the noisy sheep and Macie's Happy Cat. There were so many animals we could have filled a Licketyspit zoo! Dressing Up was a whole bag of fun, where we dressed up as creatures in Mr Wolf's Forest. We had Theo's superhero, Jason's Spider Man and Jason's Snake, along with all sorts of other interesting animals, including a mischievous wolf... This Wolf was the only wolf in the whole forest who could tell time, which led us into our game What's [...]

We went to Bellrock Nursery on Friday 3rd December for the first session of our Storyplay for the Planet!  Everyone was ready to get stuck in and play all the games with us, many having learnt some of the games from their teacher, Storyplay Champion Josephine. Our extraordinary 3-5 year-olds were quickly warmed up with Big As A Bear, exploring some incredible wildlife creates and becoming expressive characters. It was such a riot with lots of laughter! It quickly became a favourite game for some. We then had a round of Funky Chicken, where we met Reise and Gracie's Spotty Giraffe, the Brown & White Dog, Mini Dog, the Dancing Hippo from our excellent teacher Josephine, the Silly Bunny and the Happy Sheep! We then played Flying Balloons. We saw a tiny door below us and Reise saw Santa coming out of the door! Harlow saw Santa leaving on his sleigh and Sarah saw her Mum. We then saw the sea...and flew down and swam in it!  We saw lots of fish, sharks and piranas. We surfed and swam! Several children turned into sharks who we fed [...]

Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. It was lovely to see so many animals who make up our wonderful environment brought to life. All of whom are worth protecting! Let's Bake a Cake...for the Earth! We then decided to make a cake for the earth with Let's Bake a Cake For The Earth, where we put lots of ingredients for the planet as well as the yummy (and not so yummy) things we love to have in our imaginary cakes. This included hope, small trees, bees, honey, many different coloured icing and water which we put into a giant bowl and stirred until the cake was ready to put in the oven. We all helped lift it in and Marcelo opened the oven door, Mason pressed the button and.....5....4....3....2...1! Bing bing bing! Once we had decorated the cake and sang happy birthday to the planet, we all had a piece and tasted lots [...]

Welcome to the Porridge & Play Online blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had during our virtual play sessions on Zoom! Get in touch to find out how to join. Did you know that you can make a monster out of just about anything? A bottle cap can make a teeny tiny monster! A wooden spoon can make a super cool medium size monster! A cushion or a mop can make a brilliant really huge monster!! For our final week we we were joined by the brilliant Catherine Lindow, an illustrator and librarian who led a workshop on all things MONSTERS!!! Well… it looks like we have come to the end of this block of Story Play City & Family Art Voyage! And what an adventure it has been! A completely brilliant 9 WEEKS of playing, creativity, stories and fun! We worked FAST and ROUGH in this workshop, leaping around to find our objects as soon as we heard the MONSTER FOOTSTEPS STOMP!!! So instead of dressing up ourselves, Catherine taught us how to dress up our objects, and turn them into wonderful monsters!! Princess used a rubber and some tissue! Temi & Fuad stuck pencils into potatoes! Amir made a snake monster out of foam and tape! Iona made a tiny [...]

National Lottery Birthday Film

2025-04-02T23:50:32+00:00

26th November 2021 This month we had a fantastic Porridge & Play session at our home in Community Central Halls - CCH, with families who've been playing with us online since last year! We were also joined by Sanjeev Kholi and our funder the National Lottery who wanted to make a short film about Porridge & Play. The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland has funded Big Porridge & Play Glasgow since 2017 and last year helped us run sessions online all year, keeping our Children & Families Network connected & playing together throughout the challenges of the pandemic. Even though we were at home, in our imaginations we went everywhere! It was great to meet up in person together with the Funky Chicken, the Swimming Mermaid, the Flying Dinosaur and the Wobbly Penguin. We flew to space in our balloons, introduced the crew to Grandma and even saw some rainbow unicorns! The National Lottery collaborated with Joe Media for their 27th birthday to make a series of films about projects they support.
