We can write letters to show our appreciation for loved ones like friends, family members, teachers and people who mean a lot to us, or even as a thank you to someone who has helped us. Another reason to write a letter is to give feedback and we love love loved hearing about all the how you felt about our Licketyspit sessions. In this session, we played Letter to My love which was incredible and so heartwarming to see everyone get involved with Sidhivk writing his letter to his mum and [...]

We also met some new friends who recently joined our Children & Families Network - welcome to the family! These online sessions are supported by Glasgow Communities Fund and take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This week's blogs are by Andre & Taz! On Saturday... This week we had amazingly creative funky chicken animals like the Undecidable Lion by Adeelah and Muizza’s Angry Armadillo. Afterwards, we had a chat about Armadillos incorporating learning into fun play. After the session, we decided to look more into this animal and share what we have learned. “Armadillos are small mammals related to sloths and anteaters. They have a tough armor that protects them from enemies and other dangers. The word armadillo is Spanish for “little armored one.” "Armadillos have a heavy build with short legs and strong, curved claws. There are 20 species, or types, of armadillo. They live mainly in or near hot regions of Central and South America. One species lives in the southern United States. Most species live in open areas, but some live in forests. Armadillos [...]

These online sessions are supported by Glasgow Communities Fund and take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This week's blogs are by Andre. On Wednesday... We ended up at the Great Wall of China, which when we touched it was pretty warm and tasted...like hot chocolate! Ameen, Amir and Abdullah said their part of the wall tasted like Strawberries, so everyone had a taste! Someone also spotted a banana tiger on top of the wall!   Then a Guard appeared and asked us to help him prepare for a great party! Precious sang Sent a Letter to My Love brilliantly and the Guard was so impressed that he asked us to come up with a dance for the ball. We worked together to make a choreography and everyone had fantastic moves! Laith said “This is fun” - we thought so too! When it was time to head back to the Magic Ball, we first had to get through [...]

Porridge & Play Bridgeton has started!

2022-03-21T13:05:51+00:00

find out about the brilliant time we had launching Porridge & Play in Bridgeton!! Porridge & Play Bridgeton launch! ‘I liked all of the games!’ was what Storyplay Champion Adesayo said when asked about  her favourite part of our Porridge & Play Bridgeton Launch. On Thursday 11th February we were at Church House to launch Porridge & Play Bridgeton! ‘When you arrive and you don’t know anyone but you see the table set out and you end up sitting and interacting with people you don’t know,’ was a highlight for our Storyplay Champion Nicola who  has been a huge help in making this project happen. Porridge & Play is all about coming together to eat and play! Being able to eat together opens up a chance for conversation and there were some great new connections happening between families at our Bridgeton Launch. It was so wonderful to be able to play in the amazing outdoor space that Church House has to offer. It gave us so much space to  fly in our balloons and so much deck to scrub for Pirate Captain Marvellous! William doing the Funky Chicken was brilliant!  And Pirate Captain Alan told us a whole story about his pirate having a fight and putting him into space! ‘He’s fighting an evil pirate and that’s the pirate flying out of here going aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!’ What a wonderful story Alan made by exploring imaginary playworlds with the Licketyspit team. When the [...]

Porridge & Play Castlemilk has started!

2022-03-21T13:06:12+00:00

find out about the brilliant time we had launching Porridge & Play Castlemilk! Porridge & Play Castlemilk launch! ‘I loved playing and meeting new friends!’ was what one of our Castlemilk children had to say about our launch on Tuesday 8th February. Licketyspit got together with our local Storyplay Champions at  Castlemilk Parish Church to host the launch of Porridge & Play Castlemilk. It was so much fun to come together with from Castlemilk and around the world for our New Scots Integration Project. A part of Porridge & Play is coming together and eating together to build connections and get to know one another. Castlemilk Parish Church was such a wonderful space to do this in with their community based kitchen. It was perfect for us to make our homemade vegetable soup and to prepare lots of fun fruits so that we could have plenty of fuel for our play session! After fuelling our bodies we got together in a circle. We LOVE circles at Licketyspit as circles mean that everyone can see you and you can see everyone. Circles mean everyone is part of the game and as we know games are best played when everyone is playing! In our circle we got to be a BIG as a BEAR and met lots of amazing Funky Chicken animals! On our Flying Balloons we got to explore Glasgow and all the [...]

Porridge & Play Cranhill has started!

2022-03-21T13:06:02+00:00

Find out about the brilliant time we had launching Porridge & Play in Cranhill Porridge & Play Cranhill launch! "Amazing interaction with the kids, loved the imaginative play!! Thank you :)" - Mum, Porridge & Play Cranhill On Thursday 3rd February we launched Porridge & Play Cranhill at Cranhill Development Trust. It was so lovely to come together in person and meet so many wonderful children and their families! We kicked off the Launch in true Porridge & Play style! We all came together around one big table and got to eat some homemade soup and try lots and lots of different fruit. We then got to watch our Storyplay Champion film all about Porridge & Play and what our Storyplay Champions like best about it on a big screen projector! We then all came together in a circle to play some well-loved games that you can find on our Licketyspit playcards! Amber singing Grandma Grandma word for word was a shining example that once you’ve played the games you don’t want to stop. It was great to see that Amber could do all the actions too, showing that the true experts in play are children. We of course took a trip in our Flying Balloons! This is when we landed at sea and discovered a Pirate ship! We all got to dress up as [...]

Storyplay for the Planet is back!

2022-01-27T15:40:53+00:00

Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. We were back on the 20th January for our second Storyplay for the Planet online session! These sessions are supported by Glasgow Life & Bloomberg as part of Licketyspit's East Centre Ward Residency and the Create4Glasgow project, supporting children's creative solutions to climate change! Read about our Storyplay adventure below: There we were dressed as pirates on a ship doing all our normal pirate duties: scrubbing the deck; climbing the rigging; clearing the rubbish out the water; sorting it into recycling when suddenly,  Pirate André found a small ball...We weren’t sure what it was but Pirate Felicia recognised it as The Magic Ball and told us all about it! “It’s a magic ball. We blow it up and we go inside it and we have to say Magic ball magic ball take us where we want to go, Magic ball magic ball take us where we want to go.” - Pirate Felicia So we followed her instructions and went inside the magic ball. We thought about all the places we might go, said the magic words altogether and then….. We arrived in the middle of a forest with GIANT trees. Fareedah [...]

Tasters Week 1 – Porridge & Play Hubs

2022-01-27T09:48:39+00:00

Welcome to the Porridge & Play blog where we'll be sharing news of our preparations to launch our family imaginary play project in Castlemilk, Bridgeton & Cranhill! We've been very busy getting ready to launch Porridge & Play, here's a taste of what we've been up to! Cranhill Online Taster! We loved our online Porridge & Play taster on Tuesday 18th January 2022, where we played lots of games, made new friends, and of course, explored our imaginations. No one felt out of place as we kept pace with how we like to play - how ace! Our Storyplay Champions were down to play as they tore a page out of the story-playbook and got ready to dare our wonderful new participants to play with us. Anyone for Big as a... Bear!? When we dress up we can be anything we want to be and today we became Scientists! These truly wonderful scientists were experts in everything from insects (Dr Sara) to planets and the solar system (Drs Simmi & Genesis). Dr Rubbermore suggested we do a scientific experiment by making a Mucky Brew. Dr Sara added hot & cold water mixed together, Daniel, David, Bukumi & Kehinde showed us how to mix up some tropical juice and pour it all over our heads. Then we added some spicy & sour leaves - Dr Simmi’s suggestions. Dr [...]

Bellrock Nursery session 2

2022-01-13T14:34:38+00:00

Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. We were back at Bellrock Nursery on Friday 10th December for our second Storyplay for the Planet session!  It was a glorious session once again at Bellrock primary school with lots of fun packed into it. We had some newcomers, but everyone who came last remembered our Big as a Bear warm-up, and our newcomers picked it up so fast with a big roar, we got through it all as fast as a hare! Funky Chicken was incredible with so many interesting and diverse animals including Albie's Barking Dog where we all became this funky creature. Our wonderful Storyplay Champion Josephine also had to have a go showing us her Snapping Crocodile. We also saw the noisy sheep and Macie's Happy Cat. There were so many animals we could have filled a Licketyspit zoo! Dressing Up was a whole bag of fun, where we dressed up as creatures in Mr Wolf's Forest. We had Theo's superhero, Jason's Spider Man and Jason's Snake, along with all sorts of other interesting animals, including a mischievous wolf... This Wolf was the only wolf in the whole forest who could tell time, which led us into our game What's [...]

Training Women’s Aid workers in Storyplay

2025-04-02T23:41:37+00:00

17th December 2021 In 2020, Scottish Women’s Aid (SWA) approached Licketyspit to explore a collaboration: ‘When I heard more about Licketyspit all I could think about was how few tools we’ve had (in WA) based on joy and play and love and excitement and art and music and all of the thing to allow us to express emotions and not only get them out but also share them in a really meaningful way with the people we love.’ Marsha Scott CEO SWA In Feb 2021 Licketyspit introduced Storyplay to 30+ Women’s Aid Workers – who immediately understood how they could use this imaginary play-based approach and methodology – “(Storyplay is) a great way to create empathy and connect with a child …who may be unable to understand their feelings & responses / (of) helping Mums and children build a shared experience and address difficult issues” Women's Aid Workers Feb '21 SWA approached Scottish Government to support an innovative collaboration between Scottish Women' Aid and Licketyspit. Last week the first Women’s Aid workers –from Wigtown to Shetland - completed an intensive 5-week online Licketyspit Storyplay Training programme - with flying colours! Storyplay is not as easy as it looks. Learning to facilitate it is to embark on a journey of learning, self-reflection and bold experiment! The WA workers all described a similar experience, initially feeling out of [...]
