Forest Storyplay with our Cranhill Hub!
The Children's Wood - Glasgow
Our bright Cranhill friends brought the sunshine with them to The Children’s Wood last Friday!

Excitement was in the air as we all hugged and smiled delighted to be together again for some Storyplay fun.
Our circle was BIG and our warm-up was BUSY!
We had a very inspired game of Funky Chicken with some fabulous animals popping into our circle. We had a Scary Spider from Silin, Anne Marie‘s Flying Unicorn, a King bird and a Silly Sloth! Shiva was a Lazy Bunny, Ryan was a Whizzing Wasp and Shahd was a Scary Lion! Samuel imagined a Big Elephant and Esme became a Flamingo! Gabriella fluttered like a Happy Butterfly – and so did we! We met Prisca‘s Cheeky Cat, and wee David‘s Silly Dog. Gabbie created a Happy Axolotl……interesting!
We also met a few Mr. Wolves with extremely cool watches and a dangerous appetite for the Forest Creatures we had dressed up as!
Magic Ball! Magic Ball! Take us where we want to go!
Have you ever been to Axolotl land? Well that’s where our Magic Ball landed on Friday morning with our Cranhill Pals. We unzipped the Magic Ball zipper, stepped out and found ourselves at Axolotl Land where an Axolotl Party was about to kick off!
- And what, we wondered, do you do at an Axolotl party?
- We soon found out that what you eat is CAKE!
Luckily Gabriella and Gabbie had brought some tasty cake with them. We were just about to eat a slice when suddenly a big Axolotl appeared. He was very upset! Gabbie and Esme can speak ‘Axolotl’ so they translated for us and we discovered that the reason he was so upset was because he was SO hungry – and so, of course, we gave him our cake. The big Axolotl was so chuffed that he ate it all up and THEN he invited us …..to explore Axolotl land!
We set off and soon we discovered an interesting looking labyrinth being guarded by a woman called Mollie MooMoo who lived on a tree!
- ‘Be careful! Some parts of this labyrinth are a bit dangerous…it might make you … SHRINK!’
Too late! She was right! Oh No! Suddenly we all found we were shrinking and shrinking into tiny sized us!
Helplessly we shouted – ‘What can we do Miss MooMoo?’
She replied – ‘The solution is a potion! The ingredients you need are a unicorn hair, a weed and snot from a caterpillar!’
We quickly found the weed and the unicorn hair and then we set off to look for a caterpillar who might be willing to give us some snot!
Well! We soon met a rather peculiar caterpillar who took us on a mad journey. The caterpillar was quite bossy. It kept shouting orders at us.Eventually we arrived in a clearing where the Caterpillar asked us if we had any clothes he could had to help his cold get better. Then he suddenly sneezed the biggest sneeze ever! AaaaaaChoooooo! and Ahmad managed to catch the snot! HUZZAH!!
We mixed together all our ingredients to make the potion and just by touching it we all grew big again! What a relief!
Then we came to the Mud Pool.
This pool belonged to a dragon who insisted we all had showers before we went in. So, we did and then we plunged into the Mud Pool – Oooooh! AND we had the most spectacular mud fight!
After that we asked the Mud Pool Dragon if he would be so kind as to dry us with his fire breath:
-‘Oh no! I’m not that kind of Dragon!’ he said… ‘But my cousin is’…
So, off we went to meet his Dragon Cousin who said:
-‘What? Oh no! I’m not that kind of dragon!!!… But My cousin is!’
Finally, the Mud Pool Dragon confessed that he did indeed breathe fire, and that he would! So he dried us all up just in time for us to get back to the Magic Ball to transport ourselves back to the Children Wood for our picnic.
What an action packed Forest Storyplay day!
It’s good to know what adventures you can have in a Wood! I wonder what other woods and parks we know to Storyplay in!
