Licketyspit’s WINTER CEIDLIH

2025

Licketyspit’s Winter Ceilidh 2025 was a HOOT! We had a fabulous gathering with live music, delicious food, hilarious dressing up, high energy dancing and lots and lots of friends!

Saturday afternoon in Glasgow was wet, windy, cold and rather dark but the Community Central Hall in Maryhill was full of warmth, music, laughter and imagination at Licketyspit’s Winter Ceilidh!

Families from our Licketyspit Hubs in Bridgeton, Castlemilk, Cranhill, Whiteinch, Govan, Maryhill and Online arrived ready to have a joyful time and celebrate the great year of imaginary play we have enjoyed together.

Our Licketyspit APs and volunteers got the hall cheerfully decorated and put together some tasty food for all our guests – samosas, pakoras, fresh fruit, fresh bread, cheese, tomatoes & cucumbers, hummus, tzatziki and a nice selection of little cakes and hot chocolate with marshmallows for all.

It was so brilliant to have The John Somerville Ceilidh band returning to our Winter Ceilidh to play beautiful tunes and help us all with our Ceilidh dancing – some of the children were helping some of the grownups with the dances too! A great thing about Ceilidh dancing is that you get to learn many different steps and also you get to dance with so many different friends – perfect really so you can have a wee dance with pretty much everyone!

We also made a great big circle and had a massive game of Funky Chicken! A rather familiar looking Santa and their mustached cheeky looking elf, Elfonso came to visit AND they brought a present for every child. I’m going to take a guess here but…I think the presents were beautiful books with sensational stories to explore and play with! Which is quite fetching as at Licketyspit we like to say that the story is only the beginning

What a joy to see so many of the Licketyspit families together all at once! Of course, we missed those who couldn’t make it but we know that the New Year will bring more opportunities, more friends and more Storyplay!

Sunday was definitely a day to rest and reflect, not only about the Winter Ceilidh but also about all the adventures that we have had together this year: Big Porridge & Play in Castlemilk, Bridgeton and Whiteinch, Forest Storyplay at The Children’s Wood, Picnic & Play trips to Troon Beach and Loch Lomond, Porridge & Play Online, Forest Storyplay October Holiday and of course the Winter Ceilidh! We can’t wait to tell you our news for the New year and we hope to keep playing with you all in 2026.

Licketyspit would like to thank SO MUCH all our friends & supporters, our funders and of course all the amazing Licketyspit families that make Storyplay their own unleashing their extraordinary imaginations!

Here’s to a 2026 full creativity, fun, imagination, friendship and play!

Love from us all at Licketyspit!
