Block 3 Week 6 of Porridge & Play Castlemilk

Wednesday 24th August

What a wonderful Celebration we had to mark the end of our New Scots Integration project in Castlemilk.

It was so lovely to see so many of  our Castlemilk crew coming along to join the fun! We even had a special guest, Freya’s friend Lily. Michelle reprised her excellent leading of Big as a Bear and Nicola valiantly stepped in to save the day when the music wasn’t quite ready and got us all warmed up with a fabulously Funky Chicken. There were a lot of awesome dance moves in Andre’s Dance Warm-up and just when we were hoping Abu & Sayeda would join us for their Circle Game, they arrived! So, we luckily got to play it twice and Ameerah & Junior both got to be ‘It’- they were such great catchers!

Abu reminded us how to play Zombie Tag and we had lots of fun being scary Zombies and chasing everyone. And when we played Mother Hen, there were so many of us that we had to split into two groups and Yang kept us clear on the instructions. This Way Valerie was a great success and we all loved dancing down the line ‘all the way home!’

By the time we sat down to eat, we were hungry horses and so delighted to eat our delicious picnic plus Amira’s amazing Egyptian Koshari – what a treat to try such a new and tasty dish, and then a heavenly gluten free Strawberry Sponge made by Asha which was simply divine,  just like in the ice cream rhyme!

The colourful cupcakes were very popular too! Yum, yum! What a scrumptious spread it was and after, we still had the energy to sing Jelly On His Head with  Nicola!

In the gallery, we had so many wonderful artists, it was a feast for the eyes. Among all the wonderful drawings, there were pieces from Freya,  who drew herself and her mum looking at shooting stars, Lily, who drew a beautiful sunset with birds flying across the sky,  Anita, who drew  a man with a cupcake on his head and Junior drew all his friends and told us he liked The Circle Game and Mother Hen.

What an awesome afternoon of celebrations with the magnificent Castlemilk crew!

We’ve loved every minute and we hope to be back next year for more Storyplay at our Porridge & Play Castlemilk Hub!

And before then, we’ll be having a festival feedback and future planning session at Castlemilk Community Centre on Wednesday 5th October (3.30-5.30pm).

Bye for now!
